I would suggest the hardcover books, because they're not too expensive and look great. I used to download the comics when they became available, then a couple years later I bought the first 2 books. I don't remember seeing any difference between the originals and the books.

Edit: wow, it's up to 6 volumes? I need to catch up!

Not sure if you'd be interested in graphic novels, but The Walking Dead is a great series.

The compendiums are okay, but being so thick the panels close to the spine are a bit hard to read and they're heavy. I would recommend getting the hardcover editions.

You have three options:

  • The Walking Dead, Volume 1 paperback, which I believe has 6 issues
  • The Walking Dead, Book 1 hardcover, which is the equivalent of two volumes (12 issues per book)
  • The Walking Dead, Compendium 1 paperback, as jeremywitt recommended. It is the equivalent of eight volumes.

It all comes down to what kind of book or reading experience you're looking for. The TPB is light and easy to carry around if you're looking to read while traveling or while lying up-side down. The hardcover is nice and durable you're looking for something that won't risk getting damaged easy. The Compendium gives you the best bang for your buck, but it's quite bulky.

(I've thought about getting some Walking Dead books too, so this is the kind of decision I'm battling with)

I completely agree. I found one of the compandiums in a local store, picked it up and could never imagine actually reading it. Because of this, when I ordered the comics recently, I decided to go with the 12 issue collections. And they're hardcover, which is always nice.

it's only cheaper if you spend more than 50 to get free shipping.

instocktrades: $20.29 + $4 S&H = $24.29

amazon: $22.94 with normal shipping or $24.26 with Prime

There is 22 volumes of the graphic novel currently (the graphic novels contain 6 issues of the comic per book, there are also hardcovers which contain 12 issues, and the compendiums contain 48 issues).
If you're like me and prefer physical media you can also get them on Amazon.

I really liked World War Z, so if you're a fan of that I suggest you check out The Walking Dead.

u/VenomTalks · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

You should check out the Walking Dead Compendium One and Two. One is the first 48 issues of the comics and Two is issues 49-96! Or...The Walking Dead Book One is the first 12 issues and each consecutive book is the next 12. I think they also offer 4 issue volumes. The story line is waaay more brutal. I'd send you my collection, but I only have 100-136...and issue 100 is a game changer and could spoil the show... so don't start there lol

this should satisfy the Graphic Novels/Zombie/Pop culture hints/tips !

thanks!

It's hard to go wrong with The Walking Dead.

From my understanding it doesn't always follow the show and in some ways is better so that would be my recommendation.

There also Ex Machina. I don't know much about it but it's I'm my list and it looked interesting.

A comic if want would be the walking dead linked above.

My favorite is Marshal Law. He isn't a superhero, but he is a "cape killer" or superhero hunter. A comic I really want to read Thanks for the contest and good luck to everyone entering!

If you are looking to go the collection route I highly suggest getting the hardcover books. The quality of book build is much better then a softcover 1000 page over sized compendium tomb and you wont tire from holding it while you read. Plus they look awesome on a bookshelf

Naturally this a much more expensive route to go but like many who testify here its an epic graphic novel worthy of the investment.

I torrented and read the entire series and and am now working on collecting them all.

The Walking Dead is based on a comic book by the write of the show Robert Kirkman. Amazon is selling the books (which contain 12 comics) of the The Walking Dead. [Book 1 is 47% right now] (http://www.amazon.com/The-Walking-Dead-Book-Bk/dp/1582406197/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1335422482&sr=8-3)

The comic book and the Tv have the same main plot but pretty different.

Edit: the comic is up to issue 96

My preference is to buy the "Books" like this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Walking-Dead-Book-Bk/dp/1582406197/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343944040&sr=8-1

They are released a lot more often than the big compendiums, and it lets me pace the story out a bit rather than reading issue 1 - 100 within a day or two.

Also, I think they look the best. Just my opinion.

Listen my friend: If you haven't read the comic you are missing out. Please go grab book one. The show is good. I have some issues with it but I make it a point to get somewhere on Sundays to watch because it is good. The comic is amazing! Or you know, download it off the internet to check it out. I downloaded issues 1-51 along time ago. At around issue 30, I went to amazon and ordered everything I pirated. It was worth it.

Start right here. You won't be sorry.

Amazon Links

Issues 1-48. SUPER thick compendium that does NOT include individual comic covers. So thick, it's honestly annoying to read, although it is the most bang for your buck.

or

Issues 1-6. Softcover.

or

Issues 1-12. Hardcover.

That should get you started.

I know it's not a book. The Colony is an interesting watch if you ever get some time to sink in information.

Much cheaper than buying them individually. Each contains 12 issues, I believe.
