Probably not what you are looking for, but Wiz Biz involves a programmer stuck in a fantasy world, inventing a magical programming language. Some of it is outdated (from a programmer's perspective), but it's a fun book!

I don't think the book you are looking for is by Pratchett. I've read all of his and don't remember anything like that.

Hello, - would the following be what you mean when you say the wiz? Link

I remember reading a book like this once. It was pretty good.

They're older and may be out of print, but I thoroughly enjoyed Rick Cook's Wizardry series. The first two books were [combined] (https://www.amazon.com/Wiz-Biz-Rick-Cook/dp/0671878468/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1484256861&sr=1-1&keywords=rick+cook) into an omnibus.

As I recall, they are about a computer programmer that gets summoned to a world where magic works like a computer program. These were written in the 90's, so some of the humor may be dated. There was a cool bit about a screen saver that I still remember all these years later...

There's also a trilogy by Lawrence Watt-Evans called Worlds of Shadow that I enjoyed. Our universe, a universe that runs on pulpy sci-fi tropes and another universe that is a standard fantasy universe are all being attacked by a single entity called Shadow. I haven't read it since they were published, but I remember this is the series of books that introduced me to Ralph Bakshi, if that helps at all. The first book is called [Out of This World] (https://www.amazon.com/Out-This-World-Worlds-Shadow-ebook/dp/B0091XBNYO/ref=la_B000AQ3XJY_1_44?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1484256799&sr=1-44&refinements=p_82%3AB000AQ3XJY).

Might I suggest the Wiz Biz, by Rick Cook? That's basically the entire premise.

One last recomendation if your getting away from light novels.
Wiz Biz. Programmer is transported to world which has magic kind of stuff, so similar tropes to light novels, and was a good read. Hope he enjoys whatever you get him.
