Sunscreens with a PPD over 16.

The highest the PPD, the better. These are mostly European sunscreen that you can order online. The US don’t divulge their PPD rating unfortunately, so the only thing you can rely on is how high the % of the filters. I recommend Zinc Oxide of at least 15%, even better if it is over 20%.

Some of the top of my head that I know have a high % of Zinc Oxide are:

ThinkSport

Coppertone Pure & Simple

Neutrogena Sheer Zinc

Trader Joe’s Mineral Sunscreen

There are many more out there just keep in mind that a pure Zinc Oxide will have a white cast but the ones I mentioned above are not that bad with some rubbing onto the skin.

Try using a facial oil such as argan oil or grapeseed oil before you go to bed and in the morning. When I did it, my face stayed pretty matte the whole day.

I also recommend using sunscreen. Now, I don't use it (I'm not light at all plus I'm rarely in the sun for that long daily), but the one time I used sunscreen...I didn't sweat. Mind you, this was during a heat wave and I was playing badminton in a park.

I use this sunscreen: Thinksport Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+ (3 ounce) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007SNM6OK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_8guMDbJDEK5ED

For AM moisturizers, Hada Labo Moist as a toner with Sebamed Clear Face Gel (or other gel moisturizer! I personally really like Benton Aloe + Propolis Soothing Gel) is usually recommended for oily, acne prone skin.

For water-resistant sunscreen:

  • Thinksport SPF50 - Limited ingredients list, fragrance free, physical filters, decent price.
  • Elta MD Sport SPF 50 - Rave reviews, fragrance free, combined filters, somewhat expensive.
  • Cotz Sensitive SPF 40 - Oil free, fragrance free, physical filters, mid-range.
  • Alba Botanica Sensitive SPF 30 - Drugstore fave, physical filters, dirt cheap.

Try to purchase from somewhere with a great return policy - trial and error are part of skincare, and sunscreens even more so.

Thank you very much! I booked a hanauma bay tour for friday morning! My wife is super excited!
Also we're planning on getting a couple tubes of this this sun screen and after reading your linked article it seems I have to be very wary of what the package reads as it maybe "lying" to me. So we went ahead and ordered a couple more rashguards each from amazon (we already got a few after reading some other posts here). Thank you again for your help!

I wear sunscreen if I'm going to be in the sun for 2 hours or more. My favorite brand is thinksport https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007SNM6OK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 because it holds up really well to sweat. Great for when you're doing something athletic.
