Hi, Ricki! My name is Chandler, but you know me as AwwwYeahOP. I'm a newbie here on RAoA, but I love being generous and feeling the generosity of everyone here in this great community. My passion? Books. I've recently launched a bit of a campaign to go back and re-read the books I read in high school. This time, however, I have a bit more perspective into the hidden meanings and emotional messages many of these books. One book that I did NOT read in high school, would be This Side of Paradise. It was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the famed author of The Great Gatsby. I think that from what I know about the novel, this book stands a bit in the shadow of The Great Gatsby (one of my favorite novels), and I want to read it myself to give it the credit it more than likely deserves.

Aside from books, my hobbies range from rock climbing to playing guitar, and I am now prepared to meet some new friends. :)

This Side of Paradise by F Scott Fitzgerald

Perhaps the definitive novel of that "Lost Generation," it tells the story of Amory Blaine, a handsome, wealthy Princeton student who halfheartedly involves himself in literary cults, "liberal" student activities, and a series of empty flirtations with young women. When he finally does fall truly in love, however, the young woman rejects him for another.
After serving in France during the war, Blaine returns to embark on a career in advertising. Still young, but already cynical and world-weary, he exemplifies the young men and women of the '20s, described by Fitzgerald as "a generation grown up to find all gods dead, all wars fought, all faiths in man shaken."
