Yeah there's your problem. You need a pair of Thorogood moc toes. Most good moc toe boot companies don't size down to you but Thorogood go down to 5 D. The first time you wear them it will feel like your wearing snow shoes, but that's a good thing. There's a lot of surface area on the sole. The lace hooks are great at releaving pressure points on the upper foot/calf. Getting use to them will take a little time but you'll be dancing on rebar in no time.

I like Thorogood's american heritage line for chunky work boots. Here's two of them:

  • Plain toe
  • Moc toe

If you want something even closer to what you have in the pic, try searcing with keywords like "lugged sole" or "commando sole". Also, Vibram is the company that makes the soles, not those boots.

These are the thorogood a that I am talking about.. They use the same Lester as red wings, use a very high quality wedge sole, and prity much only differ from RWs in that they have a synthetic mid-sole... I would probably consider these higher quality than the boots that you linked... Thorogood also has a premium line that goes for $150, but I honestly haven't heard much about them.
Also, something to note is that good leather will darken substantially with use (especially oiled leather)... If you were to water seal either boot it would darken quite a bit... I would check out "frostinhisbones" on tumblr and see what his boots look like... That is simply from wear and sno seal (they are the ones that i linked)

I can attest to the Thorogoods. I've got these and they're great. Nice quality leather, made in USA, easy break in, and they clean up well. I've got a coat of Obenaulf's on them and they darken a little.

I've heard really good things about thorogood for a cheaper option to things like redwings/wolverine 1000 mile boots, but I can't personally attest to their quality as I'm in a similar boat shopping for a pair of boots.

(I go to school in VT, so I'm going to have similar need for a rugged boot)

If you don't mind a white wedge boot of much higher quality than Eastlands ($98 with the 30% off promo), then check out Thorogood moc toes.

Looking to get some work boots and found these

Thorogood 814 - $135

Redwing Heritage Beckman - $265

Any experience with the Thorogood, or should I pony up the cash for the Red Wings?

Idk if this part of Amazon delivers to Canada or not, but here are some Thorogood's for ~$100. Click Here

Thorogood Moc-Toes come to mind.

I got this one. Not too expensive and comfortable after a few wears. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QJ69V8

I would go with either these Thorogood Moc Toes or these Round Toes. They are well within your budget, look great, and will hold up well.

u/ShaShaBooey · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Ha, thank you. The boots are the Thorogood Moc Toe

u/Veticz · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

These or these by that I mean from anyone whose worn both of them, what looks better and goes with more outfits?

u/rlyon3 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Personally, I'm a big fan of Thorogood boots. They're nice looking boots that won't break the bank.

u/shark260 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Yeah, CDB if you don't have them already. If you like mocs a lot, I have these and they break in great. Otherwise without going up to redwing a more winter boot would be this, this or this.

I got these Danner Mountain 600s for my birthday. After I got them I decided I would really fuck up the finish very quickly, they are sued instead of smooth leather and they are just a little too "sporty" for me.

I am used to being able to abuse my Charcoal Iron Rangers and then easily clean/oil them and they look brand new. That being said...I need some brown boots, a not another pair of IRs. I will be using the credit from the Danner Boots that I'm returning ($140) and I'm willing to spend another $60-100 to get something better.

I'm thinking either Danner Bull Run Moc Toes , Thorogood Moc Toes, or stretching the budget and getting some Red Wing Moc Toes.

Is there a substantial drop in quality going from the $250 Red wings to the $175 Danner to the $160 Thorogoods? I will probably still wear my IRs more, but these will get a lot of use.

Any other suggestions in that range (on amazon ~$150-250)??

Thanks!

If you're considering Red Wings, check out Thorogood boots. I have a pair of these and I think they're great. American made, Vibram sole, high quality leather, equal build quality to Red Wings at a considerably lower price.

u/ChrisVolkoff · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

And where did you buy it from? I found these on Amazon. Did you get the moc toe or the plain toe ones?

u/yanzerg · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

Is there a huge difference between those and these? Both of them are leather and welted and both weigh about 30 ounces.

I got these Thorogood boots last year and I've really enjoyed them. I also made a post and put up an album when I first went through and put mink oil on them.

If you'd like, I can throw up a picture of them after a year of pretty heavy wear. I've really enjoyed having them and they're great "beginner" boots.

The Thorogood is 20% off on Amazon with coupon code SPSHOE14. For a size 10.5 that's only $128, and you have it in 2-days with Prime.

And the 6-inch is even cheaper (obviously).
