Those Guys Have All The Fun only hits a part of your criteria, but it is an interesting read on the rise of ESPN.

That ESPN tell-all book has a lot of stories on a lot of the OG ESPN guys. The two biggest memories I have from reading the book were 1) all the stories of Tirico being a pervert. Like seriously if it wasn't the late 80s/early 90s when he did, no way would he be working today. He would have been fired so fast.

And 2) Apparently when Chris Berman was starting out he had a mustache but I think it was one of the producers told him he looked like a pedophile and to shave it off.

Here ya go.

Apparently it's marked down $17.99 right now. That's pretty good.

it'd be great for a new way for fans to access the nfl that they couldn't earlier.

but follow the money.

in the 90's it was nbc, abc, and fox, espn with nfl rights. nbc gave up its rights to cbs and saw the drops.

when the mnf abc rights came up the nfl approached espn with buying both the snf and mnf package. espn/abc really didnt' want the mnf package, so they stalled trying to make a counter offer. in the end, the nfl went behind their backs and made a crappy deal with nbc (source, these guys have all the fun http://www.amazon.com/Those-Guys-Have-All-Fun/dp/B00BR4W8F8 )

espn panicked and paid a ton for the mnf games because they can't charge so much to be carried witihout the nfl.

from the book its something like a few hundred million for nbc to show the recap show after the afternoon games then sunday night. nbc gets to flex matchups that were good but didn't work out later on.

for over a billion espn gets the monday night games. they're scheduled to really show the big name teams, and can't adjust for the crap games.

the channels will throw insane money to the nfl for it, but its not good for the game. i don't watch thursday night games because they're just not good. 3 days later is enough for players to recover.

the book Those Guys Have All The Fun is a pretty interesting read about how it all came together

Buy the book "Those Guys Have All The Fun" They were more or less bought out of the company during the mid 80s when it was a barely if it all profitable thing.

Its an an amazing read and goes into really deep detail of how ESPN was start up.
