OP if you're interested in the development of early electric land-to-sea communication, Erik Larson's [Thunderstruck] (http://www.amazon.com/Thunderstruck-Erik-Larson/dp/1400080673) is an amazing read on the subject, as well as how this technology helped lead to the arrest of a wanted murderer.
The implication was that we would not have our AC power system without him. That is patently false. We may not have a polyphase motor without him, but that doesn't constitute "inventing AC". Most people will go for their whole life without ever seeing a three phase motor.

There is a really good book on Dr. Crippen and the development of wireless technology...Thunderstruck by Erik Larson.

The biographies I read were not Wikipedia.

I also have a Master's in EE, so I have read quite a few texts that touch on electrical engineering history.
