>Panther or a Tiger. The latter were comfortable, easy to operate and repair, sturdy and defensible

Tiger tanks were so excellent a Tiger Sqn knocked itself out. losing all 16 Tigers while trying to advance over a single railway embankment, just in front of the assembly area.

>The action took place between the 23 and 25 May 1944 in the general area of Cisterna, Italy. It crossed the embankment and put three AFVs out of action (one with gearbox trouble and two with a thrown track). The remaining 13 crews all had to stop on open ground because the guns had dug into the earth as the tanks came down the embankment and needed pulling through.

It gets better, trust me...

>Apparently the Allied troops were driven back about 3km and a number of Shermans were surprised and knocked out.

States the POW, former Tiger crewman of this SQN.

>The first loss sustained in action was a Tiger which had one radiator destroyed by an artillery round and had to limp back towards Cori in stages.

12 out of 16 Tigers still in action.

>On the Morning of the 24 May 44, a retreat was ordered to everyone's surprise. One Tiger is hit by anti tank fire on its right reduction gear, subsequently blown up by its crew. 11 tigers withdraw back to the embankment and the OC Sqn ordered 5 to continue to hold the enemy whilst the 6 were to tow the 3 tanks that had failed to cross.
>4 out of the 6 towing tanks experience gearbox trouble and the OC ordered the 3 towed tanks to be destroyed and two out of the 5 fighting tanks to assist in towing the breakdowns. These 8 AFVs arrived back to the assembly point in Cori, leaving only 4 Tigers in fighting order. Of these 4, one was hit by anti tank fire and 2 more experienced gearbox trouble (all 3 were blown in place) so that only one Tiger was left running.

It keeps getting better for the Allies

>Two converted Sherman (ARVs) come down from Rome during the night to extricate the one runner which has also become unserviceable, by towing it in tandem along the railway tracks. The situation deteriorates, On the 25 May 44 the OC orders the 9 Tigers that had reached the assembly area at Cori to be destroyed. The OC and 45 remaining men left near Cori had to march back to Rome and came under fire several times in the process arriving in a exhaustion condition.

Superior Nazi technology!!
