This works on xb1 and PC...my wife found it on clearance at target for $40!!
I bought these Turtle Beach Ear Force XO Seven's and absolutely love them.
The sound quality is awesome. They are wired, but have a fairly long wire to connect to your controller through a stereo adapter with controls for adjusting party chat over game volume and overall volume. It also has a sound mode that boosts the audio to make everything louder, especially all the quiet sound queues.
I also like that the mic boom is adjustable so you can eat or drink with it on with out it getting in the way, and you can swing it out a bit so the mic isn't right in your face.
As a bonus, it comes with a cable that can connect to your phone.
The headset is very comfortable to wear which is one of the most important features for me. If it presses on my ears, I can't wear them for more than 20-30 minutes without ear pain, but I wear my XO sevens for hours with no issue.
For just over $100, you can't beat them. I paid a ton more for my Astro A50's which promised to work with my Xbox and do not. I am just as happy with my XO's on my console as I am with my Astros on my PC, at 1/3 the price.
I ordered this back in April. A little above your budget but totally worth it.

Budget - $150 or below
Source - Gaming and sometimes listening to music. PC, not console.
Preferred Type of Headphone - Over the ear. I need a mic also.
Preferred tonal balance - Balanced. I wanna hear bass but also the mids and highs clearly.
Past headphones - Currently went back to my Turtle Beach x07 Pro after trying the HyperCloud II. Honestly the TB sound good. Has nice bass and the sound stage overall is good. They are just really tight on my head and hurt. The Clouds were awful. No bass and the mids sounded really high pitched. My friend said I got a defective pair but I returned them for a different pair that sounded the same. Hated them. They were comfortable though.
I get made fun of for my TB headset but my friends who have come over and listened they changed their mind. They just kill my ears and head after a couple hours of gaming. And I have a small head which is weird.
Preferred Music - All types of rock. Orchestra. Instrumental. Not into rap or r&b or electronic stuff.
What would you like to improve on from your set-up I just want them to sound good and be comfortable.
I missed a sale on the Senn 558s earlier this week and am kinda kicking myself for now.
The new controllers with integrated 3.5mm do not have any physical volume or game/chat balance controls. You may find yourself missing this feature if you switch to a new controller. I've used this headset for over a year and love it. Great audio, picks up my voice well and can plug straight into the jack on the controller without needing those stupid adaptor things that plug into the bottom.
Only complaint I have is the chord. It's high quality, but it constantly gets tangled up and that can be annoying at times.
