Pi zero. I prefer wired so I went with a lan to micro USB adapter I had laying around.

Also install and configure Unbound and Log2Ram.

Yes and no. What you think of a "wireless router" is three devices in one: router, switch, and access point. The router moves data between different networks (routing), allows multiple devices to share a single public IP address (NAT), blocks unwanted internet traffic from reaching the local network (firewall), and assigns local IP addresses to devices on the network (DHCP). The access point does Wi-Fi, and the switch connects everything together and gives you multiple LAN ports. There is no ultimate device that does all this, because these jobs are so different and specialized.

Instead, you should to look for dedicated devices that each handle ONE of these three jobs and does it really well. For example, this is a dedicated router. It does not do switching or Wi-Fi. You'd connect the WAN1 port to your modem or ONT and the LAN1 port to a switch. This is a dedicated switch, you connect one port to your router and connect any number of devices, APs, and even other switches to it. This is a dedicated AP. You connect it to a switch, and it only does Wi-Fi and does it really well.

You can add any number of switches and APs, so that you've got Ethernet ports and Wi-Fi coverage available wherever they're needed. Of course, everything needs to be connected with Ethernet cable, but this is the price of the best performance.

So, no, there is no ultimate "wireless router", but what you're really looking for is the ultimate network.

Edit: Part of having the ultimate network is only using Wi-Fi where necessary. Anything that stays put should use Ethernet whenever possible. And it's possible more often than you think, this adapter can connect lots of devices that you'd think are Wi-Fi only to Ethernet.

I use two of these. Works perfectly.

I bought this:

UGREEN Ethernet Adaptor for... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01N1X28F1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Works a treat 👌🏻

Your app casting this files to Chromecast might send them in to good quality and Chromecast 1gen wifi won't take that.

Maybe connect Chromecast via cable? Search for "chromecast usb ethernet adapter" e.g. https://www.amazon.de/dp/B01N1X28F1/

You can buy 3rd party adapters. I have 2 of these for my regular Chromecasts and they work wonderfully.

/u/jeanpoelie can verify that by comparing to the one they already have. the one on the store is rated 850a.

and in any case, there is always this - https://www.amazon.it/UGREEN-Adattatore-Chromecast-Ethernet-Alimentazione/dp/B01N1X28F1. Just need to add a 2a usb charger

u/rishicourtflower · 2 pointsr/Chromecast

I think you can do it if you're willing to settle for two separate adapters - first a PoE to separate Ethernet+MicroUSB, and then Ethernet+MicroUSB to OTG.

For instance this Ethernet-OTG adapter - which I know works with a Chromecast - would probably work fine with this adapter this adapter.

+1 for this the 1080p model and up are much better and I have had good experience with the UGREEN Ethernet adopter with the 1080p model (4k model has Ethernet) https://www.amazon.co.uk/UGREEN-Ethernet-Adaptor-Chromecast-Network/dp/B01N1X28F1

I presume its the same adapter as the one sold in the google store and if so then yes it states 100Mbps

https://store.google.com/product/ethernet_adapter_for_chromecast

I don't think it will be a problem though nothing it streams will saturate a 100Mb link

Since it is just a usb ethernet adapter you can use many 3rd party adapters such as ones like this
https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Ethernet-Adapter-All-New-Chromecast/dp/B01N1X28F1
but they only go up to 100Mb too if you shop around you may find one that does gigabit but its really not needed

So far I can share that the the UGREEN for FireTV, etc (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N1X28F1) doesn't work. At all.

The same with the Pluggable USB 2.0 OTG Micro-B adapter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RM3KXAU). Nothing.

The Linksys USB3GIGV1 gets there partway. The kernel identifies and it and loads the RTL8192 driver. There is something else that prevents it from working. I haven't figured that part out yet.

Using these to insert power https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FY9Z9GD.

FWIW if you want to do anything server-side with Chromecast Audio I'd highly recommend something like this USB OTG ethernet adaptor.

(Because sod wifi, give me hammered strands of metal any day.)

I bought a splitter on Amazon (link below), this thing is awesome made streaming way better.

UGREEN Ethernet Adapter for F TV Stick (2nd GEN), All-new F TV (2017), Chromecast Ultra / 2 / 1 / Audio, Google Home Mini, Micro USB to RJ45 Ethernet Adapter with USB Power Supply ( 3.3ft ) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N1X28F1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_taa_PtyQAbMJS891W

As others have said: no - you cannot use Ethernet via HDMI with the ChromeCast. You will have to use WiFi or buy an Ethernet Adapter for ChromeCast (like this). Google also offers an official adapter on their website.

u/TazerProof · 1 pointr/sonos

As of now, you can bring Sonos into google home but you cannot group them into the rest. I actually have that amp running off 6 Chromecast Audios. It works great. The volume adjustments were annoying with a delay when I had them on wifi so I highly suggest a switch and you buy these. Itll makes changing the volume much faster as you travel around the home.

https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Ethernet-Adapter-All-New-Chromecast/dp/B01N1X28F1/

Your idea would 100% work. You might have to mess with the audio sync in both ghome and sonos to get them all to sound right.

u/gp_aaron · 1 pointr/Ubiquiti

Any of the Chromecast Ethernet adapters should work fine on the Google Home Mini. We typically use the UGREEN adapters available for $14 on Amazon.

What device are you using to watch DTVN? and couldnt you just hook up ethernet to it from the dsl modem?, If you are using a roku or fire tv, look for an ethernet adapter, this is what I use for my current gen(2017) fire tv's but can be used on select other devices: https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Ethernet-Adapter-Chromecast-Raspbery/dp/B01N1X28F1
