There is no vantage point with which we can perceive an absolute, and all-encompassing view of reality. The universe is non-simultaneously comprehended, which means our view of the universe needs to be updated as we gain new information, but it also means that others often have access to information that we do not (and vice a versa). Even "science" cannot produce an absolute, all-encompassing view of reality, because (according to relativity) the accuracy of an observation is relative to your position in space-time, and (according to the uncertainty principal in quantum mechanics) an accurate measurement of both the position and momentum of a particle cannot be known simultaneously. It's important to be skeptical of other people's views, and it's also important to recognize that even the craziest people might have something meaningful to say (even if it's not what they wanted you to understand), but it's most important to be skeptical of your own views. Having said that, not all views can be treated with equal merit when trying to understand a specific topic, and understanding how to properly assess which view has the most merit is a skill that must be developed and worked at for a lifetime. In my experience however this is a good place to start.

I don't follow. That philosophy is self-referential doesn't make it useless, nor does it diminish the philosophical tradition. If you're looking for an introduction to philosophy, or perhaps a good primer, I suggest you check out this book.
