Too much about straight pool, awkward diagrams and he doesn't discuss deflection at all.

I've noticed alot of books ignore or gloss over deflection, so it's not just Martin.

I don't think it's a bad book; I just think there are better ones for an absolute newb. I'd never recommend Upscale One-Pocket or Banking with the Beard to someone who's just starting to learn the game, even though they are excellent books.
