This is what I use for my S8+ for DeX mode (also works for my Nintendo Switch as a portable dock).

It wasn't required. I use a $30 USB-C splitter with my S9 running 8.1. Works fine.

u/ImIntroverted · 4 pointsr/GalaxyS9

Sure! This is the one I have, works great on my S9.

u/FastbootGeek · 4 pointsr/GalaxyS9

Maybe I'll get this.

u/AmbulatoryProfessorX · 3 pointsr/GalaxyNote8

I use this hub and it works perfectly. I have it connected to a monitor, bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

Get something like that. Cheap and you can connect mouse/keyboard whatever

u/reddraegen · 3 pointsr/SamsungNote9

Which version of the Dex did you buy? There's the round collapsible model or the rectangular one. The rectangular one is a little more flexible but I don't think you're going to be able to get one to easily work with the bulky Otterbox case. I use slim silicon style cases and have to take those off as well. You may be able to find a better USB C extension cable that won't have the same problem. I've also used this HDMI Adapter in place of a DeX and it worked really well (although I didn't use it for extended periods).

u/kristhebrown · 3 pointsr/GalaxyNote8

I just for mine today. And tried it out. It's the best 30 dollars I've spent this week. Here's the US link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078W4RXGR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_3ct0Ab6EW7K8W

You can get 1440p (WQHD) with the official dex station and hubs, and after a ton of trial and error, I finally found a third-party USB C hub that also gives me WQHD.

To the original question, I haven't noticed a big difference between BT vs a wireless Logitech keyboard/mouse dongle plugged into the dock. I'm mostly doing productivity and browser based stuff, and both work very well for that.

u/mykie242 · 2 pointsr/LinuxonDex

I have one of these at home and keep one in my bag for on-the-go usage:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078W4RXGR

Works flawlessly for the Note 9 and Nintendo Switch with a good power supply; My LG 42" multi-client monitor powers the Note 9 and Switch from USB-C: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824025629

Also, I'm typing this in Linux for Dex right now :)

u/infiniteloope · 2 pointsr/GalaxyNote8

Which specific dongle are you using? My generic adapter still launches DeX fine.

u/open_door_policy · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

For not damaging your Switch, the AC adapter is the important part, to my understanding.

I use this: https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Samsung-Station-Experience-Nintendo/dp/B078W4RXGR/ref=sr_1_10

with an original Nintendo charger. One in my briefcase for travel and another on my desk at home.

I don't use the original dock since the travel case doesn't fit in it. Just place the Switch face down on my desk to keep the air port open and it works well.

u/jonsonsama · 2 pointsr/GalaxyNote8

I just used this one yesterday and I've had it for a while now. still works like a charm.

I can plug my anker 26800 power bank and it will register dex.

This is the one I have and it works great.

I use one of these if I have to plant down and turn the phone into a small work station.

You can also check out /r/SamsungDex if you can't find the direct answer pertaining to DeX

u/TheJessicator · 2 pointsr/AndroidAuto

You could try an adapter like this one: USB C to HDMI Adapter https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B078W4RXGR

Ignore the HDMI part of the adapter. Plug in your power delivery cable into the USB-C power input of the adapter. Plug the C cable off the adapter into your phone. Plug a USB-A to USB-A data cable from your head unit to the A port on the adapter.

I use this cheap Dex adapter.

u/VacuumPizzas · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I've been using this dongle since I got my Switch (May of this year): https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B078W4RXGR. The only caveat with it is that I have to use the Nintendo power cord with it. Any other cable I use will simply charge it without letting me play it on a TV.

I've used DeX on my Asus Zenscreen Go (MB16AP) just fine. If you want to power the setup, you'll need something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078W4RXGR

That being said, the Asus screen is less than stellar. Kind of washed out, and doesn't get very bright.

I much prefer using DeX on my HP lapdock.

u/Xyxrypt0 · 1 pointr/GalaxyS9

What about this?
https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Samsung-Station-Experience-Nintendo/dp/B078W4RXGR
They probably can't advertise it officially for S9, because it has a smaller heatsink and can overheat while using it without cooling.

u/AaronAZ623 · 1 pointr/GalaxyS9

Can confirm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078W4RXGR/
This is what I have and it works the same as the official one when pluged in with power.

USB C to HDMI Adapter for Samsung DeX Station Desktop Experience for Galaxy Note8/S8/S8+/S9/S9+, Nintendo Switch, MacBook Pro 2016 2017 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078W4RXGR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ZduJBbQAFX713

Works for me, both as a dex and to mirror my phone if needed.

u/thewaywardsaint · 1 pointr/GalaxyNote9

Just a heads up, I have a similar USB-C dongle and DeX will only activate if the charger is plugged into the USB-C port on the dongle. Otherwise it just does HDMI mirroring.

u/SmellsLikeNostrils · 1 pointr/GalaxyNote8

I got this exact one in April. 10 bucks.

It hasn't been back.

This is a popular recommendation.
Better form factor but more pricey.

u/fbloise · 1 pointr/GalaxyNote9

I'm a strong advocate for DeX sort of setups. I honestly the future will be like this. Microsoft started with Continuum, which I enjoyed with Lumias 950 back then. But DeX is another level.

You can do so much with it really. I even tried playing games with a small bluetooth controller, all works superb.

My setup is a Dex station at work, connected to a HP 24" monitor.

I am using a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and this adapter:
This is the one I got: https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Samsung-Station-Experience-Nintendo/dp/B078W4RXGR/

Note: Ensure you have the fast charging ac adaptor or any high power charger really, otherwise it won't work.

For the road & travel,

I got myself a HP X3 Lap Dock, sort of a dumb terminal you can plug your Note9 and use the screen and keyboard

It's not dex but it's only $31. Not so fun fact, it doesn't charge the phone very well while using. USB C to HDMI Adapter for Samsung DeX Station Desktop Experience for Galaxy Note8/ S8/ S8+/ S9/ S9+, Nintendo Switch, MacBook Pro 2016 2017 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078W4RXGR?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Cheap and worked well for me. You can upgrade if you need more/different ports

u/Mr906 · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

interesting.. i have an adapter with pass thru power, usb-c power (in), usb x2 (keyboard, mouse, etc. with power out), HDMI (out), with usb-c (to phone), but have not thought of trying otg with it. when used on Samsung phones, adding power to the adapter launches DEX mode. cheap enough to give it a shot, I'll attach a link to a similar one. even if it doesn't work with otg, you'll still have hdmi output, and be able to charge a few things I guess.

These are all ok solutions if you just want screen mirroring. I have one too.... Then I learned about DEX. I picked up this guy and love it:

u/MoogleMan3 · 0 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I agree completely. This dongle apparently works with the switch as long as you use the official adapter.

I don't see why nintendo doesn't release the same form factor but first party as to avoid any chance of bricking. That would be perfect.

u/PHIL_FOOL · -4 pointsr/GalaxyNote8

Real easy if the monitor has an hdmi input or a "smart" monitor.

HDMI input is the simplest.

THE NOTE 8 HAS A USB-C CHARGER/CONNECTOR.

THAT ALONE GIVES IT SUPERIORITY OVER BULLSHIT PROPRIETARY $1000+ Hardware.

The usb-c connection to hdmi is not enougj, and the DEX had traditionally been overpriced, although they finally ripped off enough chumps to stop selling at the ridiculous $150 price point they were selling at ( although that could have been due to pressure being applied due to more reasonable CHINESE KNOCKOFF products).

Any who. There is an adapter that can be hit or miss for frills like reading usb drives but works beautifully for not only connecting your phone to any high definition tv. But also CHARGING you phone while at it.

It costs less than $30 back when DEX prices were still ridiculous, but there are some dumb fucks who are currently in charge of the US government who will definietely shift the price point permanently up, so you might as well get it now even or soon 3ven with any slight increases.

EDIT: SIMILAR PRODUCT THAT I AM REFERRING TO THAT IS WORTH IT, BUT USB INPUTS MAY BE UNRELUABLE: https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Samsung-Station-Experience-Nintendo/dp/B078W4RXGR

"SMART MONITOR?" LOL Chromecast thrives on not actually putting any material effort towards their display other than halfassed running Netflix, so screen mirroring for Samsung Android products is AWESOME ( and if they start focusing on Pixel phoned then fuck um dead. Guve me something nee China).
