So setting up my cluster I purchased 3 Raspberry Pis on amazon, a network switch, and a 6 port usb charger all found below:

u/TLGJames · 12 pointsr/fitbit

Literally any of those USB wall outlet chargers will work. I've never charged mine with a computer, ever.

http://smile.amazon.com/Anker-6-Port-Charger-PowerPort-Samsung/dp/B00P936188/ref=zg_bs_12557639011_10

Something like this works great. I'm able to charge my fitbit/phone/tablet all at once. And at airports, you can share with other people.

Make sure you travel with a compatible travel adapter for electricity though.

u/aboustayyef · 11 pointsr/lifehacks

Yeah. They're as good as they come

My random stuff for Disney packing list:

-Advil

-Spare Pair of Sneakers (for post afternoon rain if you get caught)

-USB Charging Hub

-Spare pair of Glasses

-Spare pair of Sunglasses

-Spork

-Extra pair of socks for each day (If you don't take a mid day break, trust me this changes EVERYTHING)

-Portable Phone Charger

I have this: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-6-Port-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone/dp/B00P936188

Comes in black or white. Someone probably makes a 10-port variant?

Sure do. Here it is:

Anker 60W 6-Port USB Wall Charger, PowerPort 6 for iPhone X/ 8/ 7 / 6s / Plus, iPad Pro / Air 2 / mini/ iPod, Galaxy S7 / S6 / Edge / Plus, Note 5 / 4, LG, Nexus, HTC and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P936188/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Rim9AbB9SR7NH

u/Se7enLC · 4 pointsr/AskElectronics

Well in that case, this is a great choice.

6 ports at 60W. That's 12A at 5V, so 2A from each port simultaneous. I have the previous model (8A 5 port) and I love it.

EDIT: I see now that you're looking for something cheaper. The 40W version often hits $20 on sale. Honestly, just getting an 8A 5V supply is going to close close to that much anyway.

Anker makes a great one:

What you want isn't a USB hub, but a multi-device USB charger like this.

Shitty ones can be dangerous from a safety point of view, but the one I linked is from a decently-reputable brand (I own some of their products but have no other connection to them).

(Welcome to reddit, by the way!)

u/tunaman808 · 3 pointsr/AskTechnology

I want outlets, obviously. Charging off an actual USB port is a last resort.

I travel with an Anker 5-port charger (like this, but an older 5-port model). When traveling in Europe, I also bring a universal power strip. This is because European hotels are even worse than US hotels about having available outlets (and all my gadgets support autoswitching). Not too long ago I stayed in a decent (€150/night) hotel in Brussels that had one spare outlet for the entire room! On that same trip I stayed in an apartment in Paris where the only spare outlet was behind the bed. The power strip really helps in those situations!

u/tails_the_gay_fox · 3 pointsr/synthesizers

This. As an electronic engineer I am always weary about cheap 3rd party power adapters, that said I have taken one of these apart https://www.amazon.com/Anker-6-Port-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone/dp/B00P936188/

I was impressed on how well it was made. The secondary and primary side filtering was really good. They do use generic Chinese capacitors is my only major concern. All safety features are good as well including proper isolation tracks in the pcb and the such. The soldering and build quality are as good as many 1st party adapters I have taken apart. The other plus is they are ul listed so I mean they had them tested for safety. I have bought about 30 of these at work and 2 personally and they all have worked. They also tend to power the boutiques just fine as well as my ultra nova. The only device I had issues with is my cdr70. For some reason you can hear switching sounds / ripple when using this adapter. Then again on,y my official apple charger for my iPad Pro has not had this issue with the 70cdr.

u/kotokun · 3 pointsr/videography

On longer set days, I generally bring on of these guys with a foldable table and set up an on the go charging station for all my gear. 90% of it is USB chargeable.

u/devpsaux · 3 pointsr/CarnivalCruiseFans

Power strips will get confiscated if they have surge protectors. They may even get confiscated if they don't, because of overzealous security people who have been told to take anything with a switch. I use one of these if I need more outlets.

GE Wall Tap

The 6-power USB charging station would work well and is basically what I carry with me. I'm just partial to the Anker brand:

Newer ships may have 2 110v outlets, and will have multiple USB ports.

If you want the display, go ahead and get that one from eBay. I like having great customer service and easy replacements/refunds if anything goes wrong. I have this and by taking a look at the specs, it can handle your needs. A Pi Zero W(higher power consumption than a Pi Zero) consumes up to 250 mA and a Pi 2B maxes at around 1A. With your setup, you will require 2.25 amps. The hub I linked you can supply up to 12 amps overall or 2.4 amps per port. If you want to leave room for expansion, you can get the 10 port version of the same hub that still provides 12 amps overall or 2.4 amps per port.

u/Creeyas · 2 pointsr/Chromecast

This should do fine for powering them. Up to 2.4 amps per port. More than enough for each Chromecast.

Edit: There's probably plenty of cheaper options in that realm too, I just did a quick search for 6 port usb charger and took the first result. Just make sure it's outputting at least about 1 amp per port.

I would just get one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone-Galaxy/dp/B00P936188/

It should be able to charge/power all of those devices except for the Nintendo Switch.

I would use a dedicated 30W USB-C charger to charge the Switch:

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Delivery-PowerPort-MateBook/dp/B06Y427WT7/

You can also use this changer to charger the Note 10 super fast when you get it. The Note 10 supports USB PD.

On second thought, it's probably best to use the official Switch charger if you want to dock, charge, and play on a TV all at the same time. Nintendo is a bit annoying about how they decided to implement USB-C on the Switch.

u/romulusnr · 1 pointr/NoStupidQuestions

The way you describe it, probably not.

What OP is thinking of is not a "USB Hub" but a specific multi-port USB charging device that plugs into an AC power socket. It's not a "hub" at all. These devices specifically pull enough power from the wall to feed 5V or 3.3V at 1-2.1A to each USB port (up to some maximum amperage like 5A for all ports together; over that amperage, they will all degrade in what they put out).

A true "usb hub" does not do this. It will feed probably 800mA or less to each USB port, and that's only if it's plugged in to its own charger.

The charger you're plugging into the wall will only pull somewhere between 800mA to 2.1A, tops; via the USB hub, that will be split up among all the devices plugged in.

But you probably want something more like what OP is thinking of.

u/majesticjg · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

We have a multi-outlet plug that also has two USB chargers. It provides surge suppression, four outlets and two USB ports. It's always in use, either by my family or guests, so I'm about to swap it out for an in-wall solution like you're talking about so we won't have that bulky box hanging there. I ordered four of them today that I plan to install in strategic locations.

Yes, USB C can, in theory, deliver a lot of power, but there is zero guarantee that devices with USB C ports will actually support any higher amperage. So far, none do. These plugs are not expensive enough, at $20, that you can't replace them if the standard changes enough that you care.

If you're really concerned, get a good desktop USB charger instead of a wall wart. You can get them in a variety of styles, they support some truly awesome wattages and you can get them with all the latest fast charging specs. Though I've had amazingly good luck with Anker products, this Aukey one looks great if you want QC2.0 compatibility.

u/MatNomis · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

In my limited experience, the iPad charger at least keeps the charge level steady. However, I've retired my iPad adapter in lieu of using the Anker 4-port and 6-port USB "outlet" things. They definitely keep the charge steady (or better) when I'm using handheld mode. The 4-port charger has an integrated US/Japan-style plug, so you'd need an adapter, but the 6-port uses a separate direct power cable (no AC adapter, just straight power), so you could probably procure a European version of the cable with the right plug. It's the same type of wire that plugs into many kinds of devices (AppleTV, PS1/PS2/PS3slim/PS4, several other things..)

Here's one I saw from a quick search, but no reviews or anything for it, I'm sure there are others to find: https://www.amazon.com/Cowmole-Co-2M-European-2-Prong-Router/dp/B07JDH5N3T

u/mbd71 · 1 pointr/Atomic_Pi

I bought five Atomic Pis today to attempt to create a small hobby cluster at home, each with the baby breakout 2.5mm board. From what I can tell, they need 5V and around 2.4A+ to power them. Can I confirm that one way to power them would be to buy something like an Anker 60W 6xUSB power adapter like this https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone-Galaxy/dp/B00P936188 and then use five USB A to 2.5*5.5mm DC plugs (e.g., https://www.amazon.com/DZYDZR-3pcs-Extension-Cable-USB/dp/B07F9PRCWM)? (and leave the sixth USB port alone)

I'm assuming the wattage from the power supply is 60w across all plugged in devices, so 5V * 2.4A * 5 Pis = 60W. But, you know what they say about assumptions. If anyone can clarify (or suggest a better way to power five headless pis), I thank you. :).

I think it's hard to get better than an Anker charger: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P936188/

It's a super powered charging device, not a USB hub. They advertise that it can provide "up to 2.4 amps per port." I haven't used it for a Raspberry Pi yet, but I bought one of these on sale recently to power a bunch of Pis. This is probably overkill if you don't have 8-ish Raspberry Pis like I do. ^_^

If you don't need six charging ports, go to that Amazon page and check out the "From the Manufacturer" section. There are options for 1, 2, and 4 ports as well. Lots of people I know swears by Anker.

What do other people think? Has anyone used Anker products for their Pis?
