Or if you don't want to go through an external service, you're will need a modem. Something like this in combination with something like fax4CUPS may work.

The last review was January 20, 2017, so I suppose you can assume shortly before that was the last time it was sold.
If the computer absolutely must receive fax's directly, and not through an e-mail fax service, then something like this would be required, to plug into the phone line.
You'll also need some fax software so that the PC can answer the phone and receive the fax. It might come with the fax modem, it certainly used to back in the good old days when I had a 56k modem.
