This thing is compatible, among other adapters.

u/DerkhaDerkha · 9 pointsr/tech

You can get USB ethernet adapters like this. Without an adapter it's not possible.

Get a LAN adapter. Even if it's not the Nintendo branded one, it's better and more stable then wifi. This is the one I bought recently and The amount of lag has good down A LOT
sorry for mobile link if anyone replies with normal link I'll replace it

u/batahkoinonia · 5 pointsr/wiiu

I am not sure but I bought this one here and it works great.

u/SuperHyperMegaTurbo · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Buy a Wii U and the original Splatoon, and play for 8-10 hours a day until Splatoon 2's release to make sure you're really prepared for the online scene!

jk, of course.
Well, sortof, I'm going to be playing Splatoon a little each day in preparation myself, so...

The only real thing I can recommend is buying an ethernet adapter, like this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CBD2X5E/. It can make the difference between an unplayable game and an amazing game, depending on how much the Switch likes your WiFi.

u/nnid · 5 pointsr/wiiu

I don't see Wii listed as supported, so I would not buy that one. I would get one that says it will work.

u/MrCrossa · 4 pointsr/splatoon

Sorry to butt in, but this is what I use on my Wii U, and it works perfectly.

u/hydraphoenix · 3 pointsr/wiiu

This is the one I got, works great!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CBD2X5E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Does the same job as the official one so I see no benefit in getting the Nintendo branded one. I think they stopped making it since majority uses wireless, and there's ton of compatible third party adapters. Plus you can use this on a laptop or various other devices.

u/SamassArump · 3 pointsr/smashbros

This is the one I use and it works fine LAN Adapter. Should be easy to find on Amazon.ca

u/xooxanthellae · 3 pointsr/wiiu

cheaper and it says it works with Wii U: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CBD2X5E?psc=1

u/newpiscienceguy · 3 pointsr/wiiu

This has worked fine for me for a year or so

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00CBD2X5E/

u/DevvyStar · 3 pointsr/smashbros

I use this adapter for my Wii U.

I've had it for over a year and it's worked just fine, no issues at all.

u/TheSammy58 · 2 pointsr/wiiu

I bought this one back in June. Fairly cheap (the white colors cost less for whatever reason) and it's still working like a charm 6 months later.

u/UM4DBRO · 2 pointsr/smashbros

I bought one of these and it's helped out. Not perfect, but makes your end more reliable.

u/euphzji · 2 pointsr/smashbros

What's a good one? I have this one but I don't know if it's worth a damn.

u/aooga12 · 2 pointsr/wiiu

Lan Adapter from amazon

And apparently don't expect to play 4 player smash online without lag, as I am finding this out now :(

Oh yeah get some remotes, you'll need them for certain games like sports and nintendo land

u/bachelorpartydude · 2 pointsr/raspberry_pi
u/flyingkneebar · 2 pointsr/wiiu

I ordered this.

I don't have Wi-Fi at home so I decided to buy this. When I get it I'll report back and give a mini review.

u/mutsuto · 2 pointsr/smashbros

If you're using a pro-controller/ wired fight pad etc you won't be able to use it in locals/ tournaments because they are usually banned [due to accidental reconnects] as these connect into the wii's controller.

If you're using a gamecube controller [i highly recommend], you need an adaptor. I also suggest you get official game cube controllers, as off-brand/ knock-off ones wear out very quickly.

If you're going to be playing only w/ friends or randoms, you'll require and ethernet-usb adaptor [+ some cat5 cable]. You don't need a nintendo branded one, just get one that supports wii u [not all do]. having a fast wifi hub right next to your wii u is unplayable. you need wired connection.

edit: a review if interested.

u/BZLuck · 1 pointr/wiiu

This one from Amazon has been working great so far.

u/free_mustacherides · 1 pointr/wiiu

This exactly. The WiFi is spotty at best, honestly I'm starting to hate WiFi in general. This is what I use and it works great. Hopefully you find a solution.

u/phobosdeimos · 1 pointr/wiiu

My wii U wireless used to work great then it became intermittent and eventually would only would connect for a short time once in a while. It was not a signal or configuration issue. I was able to run a wired connection to it and bought this utechsmart adapter and the internet is rock solid since. Cheaper than sending in for repair.

u/tigerears · 1 pointr/wiiu

You could try getting a network adapter. It won't exactly fix the problem, but will route around it.

u/mnthemer · 1 pointr/wiiu

I'm looking at that one or this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CBD2X5E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1QTGXAMH2TVVP
I figure my link is probably "newer" technology, but that could be false. I just want to get the best one I can. Like I said, the wifi here is beyond bogus.

u/TheArbitraitor · 1 pointr/wiiu

You can get it on Amazon!

u/Pan--Dulce · 1 pointr/smashbros

This is the one I'm currently using, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CBD2X5E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 firsthand it's been great. Super stable and it connects very easily. I can't help you with that particular one you're eying but in general I can say they're an awesome investment.

u/Scoutdad · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Choose any adapter that uses the ASIX AX88772 chipset. The Wii and WIi U worked with this chipset so it likely will with the Switch.

Here is the one I bought but there are many others to choose from.

Personally I wouldn't use anything other than this.

> If your router is overwhelmed you would see it on other devices not just the Wii U. You should also be able to give it your Wii U Mac address so it gives you priority while being on Wifi.

The Wii U connects via 2.4ghz wifi. Most routers offer primary wifi @ 5ghz and allow clients to connect @ 2.4ghz, but the connectivity/speed is shoddy. Because of this, the Wii U can actually can lag over wifi while every other device on the network can be fine.

*OP should just buy this: [Support Wii, Wii U; ASIX AX88772 chipset]UtechSmart USB 2.0 to 10/100 Fast Ethernet LAN Wired Network Adapter for $11.

u/SuperWackSauce · 1 pointr/smashbros
u/starfx6464 · 1 pointr/wiiu

In answer to your question about the LAN adapter, you will need one that is specifically compatible with the Wii U but it doesn't need to be Nintendo's own. I just bought one from Amazon that works just fine and it's currently going for about $15 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CBD2X5E/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_UF6Fub19W4K4A

u/redaxemranger · 1 pointr/nintendo

I picked up one of these Utech Smart adapters and it seems to have worked fine for the past few months.

I did have a similar issue sometime back with one of my ethernet adapters. I was trying one of these on this recommendation, and it worked well enough for a few months, but then I noticed that the internet started dropping out completely for my Wii U unless I either did a Connection Test or unplugged and replugged the adapter itself - and the first time I did the latter, I think the reason became somewhat obvious.

The adapter was running very hot, and apparently overheating. Throwing it into a freezer for a few minutes cooled it and helped it run longer, so I'm almost positive it was a heat issue of some sort (first time I'd ever heard of a ethernet adapter overheating). I fell back on a old Nintendo Wii ethernet adapter, and it's been fine since.

I don't know exactly how your internet is set up or anything or if you use WiFi or Ethernet, but I guess my point is, that error message only cropped up for me once the adapter started failing, so maybe something's failing on your end somewhere?

u/Doiq · 1 pointr/wiiu

Just wanted to confirm that this did indeed do the job. I purchased the exact same wired adapter over the weekend and it has increased my online enjoyment tenfold.

Here's a link to the USA one

u/xvilemx · 1 pointr/monsterhunterclan

That said, do it. You can get a wired USB LAN Adapter for like 10 bucks off of Amazon. I got This one, and it works perfectly. Or, you could buy the Wii U version and play in glorious HD with my favorite controller, the Wii U Pro Controller.
