Taurine is an amino acid (protein) that dogs need more of and it is not found in many non-animal products. There are vegan sources (like seaweed) but it's much easier to just find a food brand that fortifies their food with vegan taurine. V-dog kibble is expensive, but it has glowing reviews and has helped with digestive issues in my own dog and other health problems. He has only been on it about 2 months, but he seems the same as before healthwise so far and really eats it up. Lots of reviews and comments online from people who have fed it to their pup 5+ years with no issues. Could be worth a try.

I was always under the impression that royal canin was one of the more expensive brands of dog food. According to Amazon your dog food is $3.65 per pound and the most popular brand of vegan dog food is $1.66 per pound.
