I agree with your sentiments. I've had people turn their nose down at me for rubber legs on my flies. At the time I was fishing 300+ days a year and had explored every remote stream within a days drive.

I detest the elitist pricks as much as I do the belligerent bait-chunkers who leave a half empty can of corn, a tangled mess of mono and the scattered remains of a 12 pack; every time they fish. In the south, the licked clean can of Beanie Wienies was standard fare as well.

I've probably hauled away 1000 times more inches of coiled mono filament than fish...

And for better or worse, I've never eaten a can of Beanie Wienies.

Actually, the hotdogs were made with chicken. So really it tastes almost exactly the same, but healthier and cheaper.
