Those look a lot like isolation headphones drummers use to protect their hearing. My friend has a similar pair of Vic Firth's. Now I'm basically just making a guess based on appearance, however you can confirm this by telling us how strong the clamp strength is and how good the isolation is.

I had to work my way up to it slowly over a few years, but I now find riding a bike almost 20 miles a day on city streets to be more relaxing and comfortable than riding Bart anywhere near rush hour. It's just such a huge assault on the senses...

I would recommend you check out something like this if you really are being tortured by it.

my highest priority is a skin pack for the drums item
but i have way cooler stuff than that. mostly drum upgrades i'd like to add to my kit. i think i will probably buy a throne / those noise reducing headphones for myself before anything else on my list.

i was going to ask what you paint but i'm skimming your submitted list. very cool.

I have a pair of isolation headphones from when I used to teach drums, I brought them into work recently and they work well to deaden the gross sick sounds around my office. I tend to have to alternate between these and music though, as they can make my ears hot after a while.

I have mostly worn ear protection (only didn't initially due to being young and dumb). I am a drummer, I wear ear protection, but as others have mentioned so do the rest of the members in my band. I personally wear over the ear mufflers found here for example .

The damage is especially noticeable at live shows, both as a musician and as a concert goer. I don't typically wear ear plugs to shows (as a concert goer) but have started to recently in smaller settings where maybe I'm standing closer to the speakers.

All in the name of being able to shred (and hear yourself shred) for as long as possible!

Check these out.

Vic Firth makes pretty much the same thing branded/geared for drumming.

There is no real upper limit to ear protection. You can pay as much or as little as you want, and they all pretty much work.

Best thing I've found and that is very cost effective is to just get these and wear them over your earbuds.

I use those both live and at home. If I'm playing to music by myself or recording, Ill also wear these over them so I don't have to crank the volume too loud.

I use JVC Marshmallows which have the same material as a lot of ear plugs as my earphones for playing along. They're cheap and just right for the job. Also, they have great sound quality, especially for the price. For added noise canceling pick up a vic firth noise canceling ear muff and wear it over the earphones.

Or just skip the two steps and pick up these although they don't cancel nearly as well.
