Viewsonic xg2401 has always been considered one of the best 144hz monitors out there at $199, the xg2402 variant hovers around $215 but I can't tell ya what the difference between them is

they say these two have the best color accuracy for a tn.

 

i recommend the Samsung CFG70

it has better color accuracy than both of those monitors above (because it's a VA panel and not a TN) and colors look as good as on my other IPS display IMO. (IPS panels have the best color accuracy)
and it has great viewing angles unlike a TN panel.
also it's $70 off rn. i really wouldn't pass this offer up as you're getting better color accuracy and better viewing angles for only $20 more than the Viewsonic.

The AOC G2460PF and ViewSonic XG2401 are both solid choices. Each have FreeSync, 144hz, 1ms, and are 1080p resolution.

So I mentioned r/monitors because if you go there and mention the ASUS VG248QE, there will be some polar opinions. I actually have this monitor, but I don't know if I would purchase it again. It's not actually a budget monitor either, and mine developed a row light pixels along the center. It's still under warranty so as soon as I get a 144hz replacement I'll send it back and use it as a secondary display. Anyway, I'm a single point of anecdotal data. Many people will recommend other monitors though. The replacement I'm looking at is the ViewSonic XG2401, which appears to be generally well recieved among enthusiasts. Few people have actual standards for monitors, so if you ask somebody they'll likely recommend their own because they like it, not because they did their research.

For starters, most people confuse input lag with response/refresh rate of a monitor. That's not the same thing, and I'm saying this as a just-in-case thing. Most monitors on their website do not have input lag listed on their website. DisplayLag has a database where they listed displays with their input lag https://displaylag.com/display-database/ If you sort their database by input lag, you'll see that the best monitor has about 9ms of input delay.

I have two monitors atm. The first one I have is this one: https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2401-FreeSync-Advanced-Ergonomics/dp/B01A0ZRR50 ; on the DisplayLag website, it has 10ms of input lag. The other monitor I have is this one: https://www.displayninja.com/benq-gw2480-review/ ; this review claims that it has 10ms of input lag, but I don't know how reputable this website is (but I didn't buy this monitor for input lag reasons). 10ms is fine, and I think 12ms is doable.

RTings has a website where they talk about general quality of TVs. I'm pretty sure that I have this TV, which was considered the best TV for its input lag for that year (2017): https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl/s-series-s405-4k-2018 . Its input lag is 14.6ms, and I can definitely feel the difference between this TV vs my more lagless monitors. On playing on other TVs with more input lag, I can definitely feel the severity of the input lag on those TVs.

This is the same price and doesn't use PWM. It's more or less a budget one still, no freesync, but it does have DisplayPort, and just not having PWM makes it better than the ASUS, as they are similar in most other respects.

If you're willing to spend just a little more, this is looked at as the best 144Hz 1080p TN model, its great in every respect and currently at one of the lowest prices I've seen it.

If you have an AMD card: Viewsonic XG2401

If not: LG 24GM77-B

Viewsonic XG2401 is your best bet at that budget with those specs. Comes with freesync too unless you have a nvidia card...

I got this monitor for around the same price and I love it. Mainly wanted to see if 144hz would really make a difference when playing FPS, and found that you can really see how much smoother it is. I originally got the Acer GN246HL from the amazon.ca deal for $200 and compared the two side by side, but the ViewSonic XG2401 really blew it out of the water when it came to colour and the adjustable stand.

With more research I found that the XG2401 is a really solidly rated monitor, and I highly recommend it to people looking for a reasonably priced Freesync monitor with decent colour for a TN panel.

Yeah, I think getting this monitor would be smart for your budget.

Theres also a ton of sub 100 dollar monitors that would be great as a secondary.

Currently torn between the XG2401 and the XF240H. Both seem like great monitors, with the general consensus that the XG2401 is better, hence the higher price tag. Question is, is the extra $70 or so worth it? I don't know much about the very fine details behind monitors, other than that the XG's Freesync range is better.

I think the best choice for you would be a 24" 1080p 144hz monitor. With your build, you'll be able to play new games on maximum graphics settings for years to come at this resolution, and you'lll be able to take full advantage of the refresh rate. You should be getting well over 100FPS in games like Borderlands. Furthermore, a top of the line monitor with these specifications shouldn't break your budget. I'm not sure if prices are higher in the UK, but you can get a top of the line one in the U.S. for around $200, which is roughly £150.


Keep in mind that many 144hz monitors are set to 60hz as the factory default, so you may need to open the menu with the physical buttons on the monitor and switch the refresh rate to 144hz. You'll also likely need to enable this in your display settings on your PC. It's a simple process you'll be able to figure out with a quick google search.


Of course, there are a lot of subjective factors to choosing a monitor that have to do with personal preference as well. I'd suggest asking your boyfriend what size his monitor is if you don't know already. You may decide you want something larger if that's what you're already accustomed to.

and the viewsonic xg2401 is even better still . Both come with freesync which is just nice to have as an option even if you have nvidia now.

I don't remember how current the discussions I was looking at were but I'm in the market for a 144hz (w/ Freesync if possible) display as well and I've heard praise of the ViewSonic XG2401. Since, I'm assuming, this is a more knowledgeable community (than buildapc/sales) could anyone share their insight on this display and the ones that OP has linked?

It's a TN monitor, 144 Hz, 24", and the stand allows it to tilt/rotate and is VESA ready.
I have it mounted on a VIVO dual monitor arm stand with a ViewSonic VA2459-SMH monitor.
Again, don't know if it's what you're looking for, but I thought I'd share.

Edit: Might also want to check out the XG2402. I believe that's the newer version of the XG2401. Around the same $330 price tag I think.

This one is regarded as the best 1080p 144Hz TN monitor for that price range

I recently bought a new monitor and did a ton of research and ended up buying the Viewsonic XG2401 which is widely regarded as the best 144Hz, 1080p monitor and I'm very pleased with it, it's a joy to game on. Personally I feel 1440p is pointless, unless you have a monster PC because you'll want to be hitting at least 100fps with a 144Hz monitor and that's much easier to achieve at 1080p.

• You can get FreeSync for right around $209 in 1080p or $299 in a higher quality model. Nvidia would cost you at minimum, around $150 more for G-Sync.
  
• If you're set on spending $500 for a video card, this puts you in a strange position because the 1070 at $379 will definitely be the best card you can get. However, the 1080 will be $599 at minimum, probably $629-$650 street prices. So going Nvidia with G-Sync will either be okay because you can spend the $120 you save by getting a 1070 on a G-Sync, or it'd be better for you to go AMD with a price-dropped Fury X and get a FreeSync monitor.
  
• A 500GB SSD wouldn't be that bad. I would do that plus the blue drive and spend the rest on the GPU budget, possibly consider a jump to the GTX 1080.

Sounds like you will easily get high frame rates. Two months ago I bought a refurbished budget gaming computer with an i5-6400, AMD RX 480, and 8GB ram. If I put the fps cap to 250 in RL, I get about 170-210 fps with all the graphics options on and at the highest quality.

However, I cap it at 142 since I have a Freesync (adaptive sync) 144hz monitor. And it's usually pretty stable at 142 with Spotify, Chrome, and even OBS running at the same time. Discord is fine, too, but if I use the overlay I get frequent drops. Tip: if you use Freesync or G-sync with a compatible 144hz monitor, you'll get the least input lag if you cap the frame rate--within the game--to 141 or 142. If you cap at 144, it actually introduces additional lag when the fps hits 144 (or over which can happen even with a cap).

My only regret is that I stream sometimes. Since my CPU is only four cores, it can struggle encoding the stream and keeping really high frame rates (RL is actually pretty CPU intensive). So I encode with the GPU, but the quality is not as good. Thankfully, Twitch increased their recommended bitrates for streaming so it's not too bad. If you're thinking of streaming games, you really should consider AMD Ryzen CPUs or wait for the newer Intel ones that are designed more for multithreading.

The monitor is also extremely well made. As for the MSI the stand is not well made (it's a snap on stand), and unless you're looking to mount it, it wouldn't be great. It also doesn't have a true 1ms response time.

I know you don't have an AMD card but this meets your 144hz 1080p 24inch criteria, using AMD freesync is a bonus.

If you get a monitor especially with freesync(since you're going amd) it will be significantly cheaper than one with G-Sync and there are very good monitors at a decent price.


It is DEFINITELY a good idea because you won't have too much of a problem with most games at medium(even high). If you're playing non-demanding games like CSGO(I know you mentioned destiny) or Overwatch you should be more than fine.

It's true that the RX 580 won't push 144fps in every game, especially not newer games at ultra, but that shouldn't stop you from buying a 144Hz monitor so long as you buy a Freesync monitor like the Viewsonic XG2401.

With Freesync, the monitor will match the refresh rate to whatever frame rate is being produced by the card, so if you are only able to run a certain game at 60 fps, it will function as a 60Hz monitor. However, in less demanding games where you can run at 144fps, it will function as a 144Hz monitor. Or 75fps or whatever number in between.

So there is no downside to buying a 144Hz Freesync monitor. Make sure you get one with good reviews, though, and I would strongly advise making sure the one you buy has low framerate compensation. You can use this list to see which monitors support LFC.

That memory kit is not on the QVL for that motherboard, which means the manufacturer hasn't tested it. You may not be able to run the kit at 3000, though there's no guarantee either way.

To be safe you should pick a different kit from here http://www.gigabyte.us/Motherboard/GA-AB350-Gaming-3-rev-10#support-doc (memory support list for Ryzen). You should get a kit with the exact model number listed.

Those are both bad options. You need to keep a Z270 board so you can overclock, and to ensure it will be compatible out of the box with the 7700K. Apparently, you will want to avoid Gigabyte boards for the time being as well see why. Something like the Asus - TUF Z270 MARK 2 would suffice, and save you $50.

It's a TN panel, so colors won't be as good as an IPS, but it was widely regarded as the overall best 24" 144hz monitor on /r/monitors.

After 5 mins of initial color and brightness tweaking, it looks very nice. No ghosting, fast response, and freesync if you have AMD.

Virtually every game on the market that isn't trash shovelware (and even some/most of those do, too) will support 1440p.

And the distortion your friend is talking about, I *only experience it on Spotify where some of the text on the 'friend activity' sidebar becomes blurry. Here's the Windows UI that some complain about being too small. I don't really mind it, but to each their own. I wouldn't allow it to influence my choice in monitor, personally.

The best resource for monitors is NCX. Dude is fantastic when it comes to monitor recommendations. Out of that selection of monitors (plus 1), I'd personally go for either the S2417G or the XG2401.

I don't like VA monitors because, while they're in the middle of IPS and TN for color accuracy while still having low input lag, they can be bad when it comes to ghosting. Immediate no-no from me.

In general, it is a great monitor, one of the cheapest 144hz 1ms 1080p monitors you can get right now if I'm not mistaken. Freesync is the only grudge I have against it, I feel like AOC did a terrible job making sure it works properly in all games, which is why mine is currently sent in for an RMA to see if anything is wrong.

The Verdict: Make sure the drivers are properly installed, then try every game you own with freesync on. If you encounter any major artifacting with it on, return it and go for the ViewSonic XG2401 if it's in your price range. If you want to be on the safe side, just simply go for the ViewSonic in the first place.

I've heard good things about the screen quality of the XG2401.

Additionally, you could wait for a deal on a refurbished XG270HU, they go for $300 occasionally.

I'd avoid the no sync ones as besides the BenQ (that is way overpriced) they're all old monitors. Most of the 24" 1080p 144hz TN and VA monitors go down to $200 every now and then, just a matter of finding one that is at that price.

The xg2401 can be found for ~340$ Canadian if you look around, but it has freesync. The XB241H, which I've seen recommended for Gsync(I have an Nvidia card) is 550$ Canadian, which would be too expensive

Is 1080p/TN/144hz OR 1440p/IPS/60hz better for general gaming purposes?

The high refresh rate/fps rate is certainly attractive for gamers, but I hear once you see that higher res beautifully colored picture its impossible to go back, plus that 60hz should be overclockable to 75hz if I'm not mistaken.

Here would be a more specific question: which monitor out of these 2 --> ViewSonic XG2401 OR Acer G257HU??? My budget is $300. I could also consider certified refurbished, but that's a whole other can of worms for this post.

I originally wanted the 144hz for high FPS and competitive gaming performance, but I figured my 1070 won't be able to get past 90fps on max setting AAA games anyways, so what's the point of the 144hz if you're not fully using right? That IPS color AND 1440p resolution is hard to ignore.

In that price range I would look at 144hz monitors if you have a system that can push that many frames in the games you play. If you have a shop nearby where you can see some in action I would encourage you to stop by and have a look. Personally I find that the visual quality gained with pushing 90+fps to be vastly superior to pushing higher (more than 1080p) resolutions. Take a look at something like the Viewsonic XG2701 or Asus VG248QE.

I just purchased the Viewsonic XG2401 and it is so far an amazing monitor. It comes out of the box needing some adjustments to the settings, but once those adjustments are made the picture is great. Thanks for everything! I will keep that in mind. Last question, for WoW, what would be a good monitor to use? I had ordered a 24inch 1080p 144hz monitor which arrived earlier today. I also have a 1060 ordered which should arrive soon. However, prior to this monitor I was using a 49inch TV. As of right now this 24 inch monitor feels so small in comparison and makes everything feel squished. I am debating on returning it for a 27 inch, or just using my old tv again.

Yeah for a decent 1080p/144hz monitor, he's gonna be looking at spending $250 to $400. I use this one.

It also depends on what he uses the PC for. If it's for FPS gaming, you want a fast response time and 144hz for sure.

I got my XG2401 for $310 plus tax. Looking at the historical graph on PCPP, it's never gone below $290... So unless you can sleuth some sales not tracked by PCPP, that's probably a reasonable price. They're still available on Amazon for that price if you want one.

I will get mine Tuesday and try it out. I considered the Nixeus 24" on Newegg (it was on sale for about $250 a couple days ago, but now it's not such a good deal, yikes), but heard that the ViewSonic was better from multiple reviews. Apparently the comparable Asus monitors don't stack up and have issues, so do some research if you're concerned.

Keep in mind these monitors are FreeSync, so mainly benefit from AMD cards.

Here are some 144hz freesync displays. This nano has 85% of the performance of the 1070, but is 260, and can utilize freesync. This fury has similar performance to the nano, but runs much cooler and is only 10£ more. Both will perform better than the 1070 when freesync is considered.

Food for thought. You could use those monitors without freesync of course, but that would be foolish.

  The Acer GN246HL and Asus VG248QE are old, outdated, low quality, and should be avoided. The Acer that you linked to is probably closer to the ViewSonic models in quality.
  
  If for some odd reason you had to pick between the two that you linked, I'd take the Acer. But since you're linking to Amazon USA, I'm assuming that is where you intend to shop from. So get one of the ViewSonic models instead.

You're trading in colour and picture quality for a tiny bit less of input lag, I'd personally take a 5ms VA/IPS panel over a 1ms TN panel any day as the difference in the actual picture is incomparable. 1-5ms you can't feel a difference at all, but from 5-10ms you can definitely feel a difference.

I have a price range of about 300$ but this price can be stretched by a bit. Also since I have a Gtx 750ti I think that means that I would want G-Sync. I was thinking of getting a Zowie, however most of their monitors don't have speakers so... I also looked at the monitor you recommended, and when I looked that up on YouTube I thought it would be good, however the video I said that there was a viewsonic monitor that was better quality for a bit more.... I honestly don't know if IPS is as big a concern for desktop monitors, so that's something I'll leave to your discretion.

Things important:

• low eye strain, I use a monitor pretty much 24/7
  
• 1080p (I don't really have a reason or the hardware to go above)
  
• pivot, height adjustment (I am tall and my desk is short so...)
  
• tilt is nice for the same reason as the height adjustment
  
  Beyond that I think I'll just rely on your expertise because I have no idea what else would be useful to me personally. Connectivity for 2 HDMI inputs would be cool for connecting my laptop and a console simultaneously, USB hub is neat but again -- not sure how necessary. Color reproduction would be really great, black stabilization is a plus (but since I don't currently have it, missing it won't be a killer). Budget is around $300. This is what I'm currently looking at.

What are you planning to do with the build?

Initial feedback is depending on what you're planning to do with it you may want a slightly better GPU to fit the 144hz screen. If you want to be able to max everything and still really get your bang for your buck I generally would suggest a 1070.

Also you may want to look at this monitor for 144hz.
It is a jump up by about $100 but it's considered basically the best monitor in your price range. There's also this if you don't like curved. Which is again considered one of if not the best panels for the range you're in.


If you're just planning on video games I'd drop the 7 1700 for a 5 1600 and toss the extra money towards a better gpu/monitor.

Also I didn't look but be sure to check that the RAM you're buying is working well with the mobo/ryzen you buy. Some of them are having problems hitting their maximum speed because it's a new architecture. So just be very sure you get one that can because Ryzen REALLY benefits from fast ram timings.

VG248QE is considered one of the worst monitors for that price. Stay away, I really disliked it.

The AOC g2460pf is better...but still not that great imo.

However, the colors for the cheaper 144hz TN monitors have awful colors if you're used to high quality IPS 60hz. it's blurry and and muddled if you're not playing games without severe tweaks so I recommend you research all the monitors near the price you are willing to pay.

in my POV, buy a cheaper monitor, not 144HZ and save up for a very good 144hz monitor like the samsung or dell ones. lower end 144hz monitors have great refresh rates and response time but offer not much else.

Best Bang for your Buck Monitor

I got mine a few months ago, and the picture is perfect to me. I use to play on a DELL S2716DGR, and this TN monitor has better colors by far.

Freesync seems exactly the same as G-Sync to me also. This monitor isn't validated by Nvidia, but never had any issues with G-Sync Compatibility.

Can someone tell me the difference between these 2 monitors? Other than the model number and the price, I can't really see any big differences:

It's.. ok. Colors are crap and viewing angles are minimum. I've become too spoiled with IPS panels. That said response times and movement are brilliant on it.

The questions to clear up are: Which resolution do you want? 1440p is a bit much for the RX 480, but to move from a solid 1080p display you have to a new one just for Freesync might be not worth it – maybe depending on whether you'd be happy to continue to use it as second display, or whether you can sell it for a good price.

Panel is the next questions. There are some IPS displays with Freesync, which is nice as it means better colors and viewing angles. Freesync also introduces freesnyc-range as a feature, the FPS area where it works. That differs from display to display. Also, high-hertz or staying closer to 60; normally freesync means that the display goes up to 70 at least. Related to panel as high-hertz means TN.

I'll give you some concrete options for your budget. See them as starting points, there are valid alternatives. Samsung S24E370DL seems to be a good choice when not wanting to spend too much (~160€). 24", 1080p, Freesync-range from 45-75, reportedly hackable to 35-75, PLS-panel (equal to IPS). I'd get that, it's a nice small upgrade to what you have, Freesnyc, better panel, higher hertz.

If you want to go to 1440p, I'd consider the Ilyama B2783QSU-B1. 1440p, 27". But Freesnyc-range only 48-70Hz and it is a TN-panel with not so great viewing angles, something to be aware of.

The alternative is to go to 120 or 144Hz displays. I personally would not do that. But it could work here given you play some older games where your FPS will be high enough. A solid model would be the ViewSonic XG2401.

i think TN will be fine as long as you spend a fair amount of time to calibrate it then.

also Asus are infamous for their poor quality control, I have acer xb271hu for this exact reason (and a few others) but also help that it was £100 cheaper than asus in the uk.

However, if you are buying a TN monitor, this might not be a huge issue compare to IPS panels

I'd look at the Viewsonic XG2401 instead. Its still 1080p 144Hz but is much more modern and cheaper.

It looks like a nice monitor, but not $400 nice. 1080p144 is generally only around $200, and G-Sync shouldn't double the price. This has the same specs and is $300.

I took a look at the NewEgg reviews for this, and there were a couple that gave me pause -- although they're both several months old, so maybe they don't apply anymore. One was claiming that a previous version of this monitor was actually recalled due to the "overdrive" feature (which I think is the <1 ms response time?) not working at 144hz. The other said that you need to go through the process of installing beta drivers to get FreeSync to work, although that may have been fixed since that review was written.

Do either of those reviews have merit still? My concern is that the low sale price is to get rid of AOC's existing stock of the "recalled" version of the monitor, though I'm probably just being paranoid. Link to the NewEgg product page.

And if you had to choose between this and the ViewSonic XG2401, what would you go with?

For budget level I've seen in person the Viewsonic XG2401 , Acer XF24H (Roommate owns this one) , and Samsung C24FG70 (I own this one) and they're all really good budget monitors. If I had to rank them in terms of display it would be Samsung->Viewsonic->Acer. The Samsung is the only one that is not a TN pane but it is also the priciest. I bought it because I got it on a huge deal at Fry's. the curve is negligible. All 144hz, all 1 ms response time, all 1920x1080 which is all we can hope for at this level of GPU really, maybe a little 1440 but not a whole lot. I would recommend any of the three. We were cautious about the Acer due to lack of reviews but has really impressed us so far. Just have to a do a little fiddling with colors out of the box. Another bonus the Samsung has is the quality as it comes out of the box. It also produces the largest reproduction of color gamut. In my opinion all are very good value and fantastic 144hz entry level monitors. They're no 144hz IPS GSync monitor or anything but they definitely get there job done!

Something like the ViewSonic XG2401 would work for you. I use a BenQ XL2411Z myself. It also works, but did require some calibration to get the colors to look any good.

I would reccomend this one instead. Better build and picture quality I have read but costs on average 60$ more. I own 2 aoc monitors so if the extra cost is too much your pick is still a solid choice.

That's pretty much all the non-Korean monitors you'll find that fit those 3 categories. 1080p 144hz just doens't have a lot with it. You already have the ASUS MG248Q, so I didn't include that one. I also only listed FreeSync-capable monitors.

AOC is notorious for bad color reproduction, but a bit of calibrating it should be decent. Freesync & the lower price tag is probably the only edge.

The BenQ is pretty high end for a 144hz TN. This is the cheaper alternative.

Asus is the mainstream, consumer grade everyone with doubts go to.

You can consider these two as well, they have great reviews and rival the Asus.

LG 24GM77 drops to around $240.

Viewsonic XG2401 is probably a step up from the AOC in terms of color yet delivers freesync & affordable ($240~) on sale.

If you are 100% sure you are getting the 1080 then save up and get this one. Or get this. I have no idea why that one is so cheap though.

If benchmarks come out and you decide to stay with AMD for some reason then this one is a pretty easy choice.

1. $260 144hz monitor and from what I've read online, it's the best one at its price range.
   
2. You can wait for the 1070 ti to come out and see if it drops the value of a 1070. But I don't think it'll matter much.
   
3. Your cpu will not bottleneck.

Same price range, when I was doing research this one was repeatedly said to have better color reproduction. I ended up buying the viewsonic and I freakin love it.

At what price? At what I've seen, it normally costs almost as much as or even more than the Viewsonic 24/144 on sale right now normally does.

The problem is the BenQ premium they put on their monitors either takes a very high end one to make it count, or brings you close to a better monitor. Early on they were the only option for better-than-"dirt" monitors, but now the rest of the players are developing.

No problemo thank you for the replym I appreciate the suggestions . I have had a long hard think and I do feel that my priorities are a freesync and 144hz. If i stick with 1080p it will also increased the longevity of my card and further down the line I could use the money I saved to buy a better card. Even though I would of loved 1440p :(.

Also with the state of IPS monitors and the poor quality control I dont want the hassle of having to send back monitors and dealing with blacklight bleed or really bad ips glow.

Let me go over my picks for you.

Number 1 best value: Acer 240HY. 23.8", IPS, and almost no bezels. 60hz, so pretty great for the price, with HDMI.

Number 1 best 144hz gaming monitor: Viewsonic XG2401/2701. It has freesync, the best color of all sub $300 monitors, and can rotate into portrait mode if needed. This monitor is fantastic if you have an AMD graphics card. If you do not, however, you'll either want a G-sync monitor (Much pricier) or go for a Benq and save money, since those lack freesync (Which doesn't benefit Nvidia cards anyway) but still have fantastic ratings.

Speaking of which, this is the best 144hz monitor without Freesync or Gsync. BenQ XL2411Z

Want a fantastic cheap Freesync monitor? Look no further than any size of these Viewsonics. Viewsonic VX series. All are 60hz but overclockable to 75hz (Nice!) and they all have freesync. I'd still recommend the #1 monitor I listed first, since IPS will probably be a lot better on your eyes, but these are great alternatives if you want a cheap gaming monitor and have an AMD card.

Want 144hz gaming but you're a cheapskate? No problem. Either buy the AOC G2460PF (Freesync!) which doesn't look quite as good as the Viewsonic I mentioned second but is $60 cheaper, or go for the Atron Vision AVF24 for an alternate, highly rated but lacking Freesync monitor. You can even get them used off Amazon for $150ish too!

Personally, I think for you, the first monitor I listed is your #1 best bet, BUT you can, if you really want to pinch pennies, go for the Acer H236L 23" monitor and buy it refurbished for almost exactly $100. It's also a bezel-less monitor, looks okay, and has high ratings. Personally, based on my research though, if you're going to buy this one new, go instead for the Acer I listed at the top, since it's IPS and this one is LCD. It still seems the better deal.

for 1440p, i'd probably go with the Korean Crossover 27V. it's around $330 on eBay. also has Freesync which is rare for that price and size. you could also try to catch a refurbished BenQ XL2730Z in the upper $300 range.

Hey, I have the exact same card and also planning to upgrade from my regular old 1080p 60hz BenQs. I have done quite a lot of research and have come to the conclusion, that starting from around 350$ adaptive sync is essentially a must-have if planning on any kind of gaming and futureproofing. As far as I know there are no additions needed to use FreeSync other than plug it in and turn it on from the monitor settings besides connecting your monitor via DisplayPort (or DVI aswell?).

In my opinion the best price to performance value monitor is the last one you mentioned, after weeks of searching I have not found anything close to these specs and that pricepoint. The only caveat with that particular model seems to be that the stand does not have a height adjustment or the VESA mounting points. Also the panel is a TN, rather than an IPS, so if the latter is preferred, add another ~100$ to the monitor's price and get either this:

Also when updating I am planning on still using my 24" 1080p one and possibly my 22" beside it aswell. The upgrade to 1440p should be quite noticeable aswell, particularly if going for a 144hz FreeSync model. The PPI will stay roughly the same, but there is more screen real estate.

the xg2401 can hit that price range. it's one of the best 144 hz monitors. i have the newer xg2402 where the main diff is the stand. faster melee feels even better than a crt on my xg2402, but it's prob placebo. having the option to play melee in 1080p is also really nice.

If you bought the screen from Amazon recently, I advise you to return it and get this instead. Just look at reviews, it is a much better monitor for less £

Ultrawides really lower the pixels per inch (PPI) and can make the image look blurry if there's not enough pixels.

Most people feel 24" monitors are about the limit where 1080p still looks good, larger than that the PPI drops too much.

I'd go 144hz, but not that monitor. I returned mine almost immediately. The picture quality and color reproduction was absolutely terrible. The FreeSync/144hz worked great though.

For $250 max budget you're mostly limited to TN budgets .Yeah like many have pointed out , high refresh rates options are usually in 24" form factor . That said , there are these few monitors fitting the criteria

If you have an AMD card it would be nice to get the Acer or Viewsonic for the freesync and between them , would personally recommend the Viewsonic XG2401 .

2nd one is not 144HZ.

Best of those is the AOC. It's pretty good, but the default gamma is not perfect and requires some calibration with ICC profile to be acceptable. But the low Freesync range of 35 Hz is a very nice feature.

I went with the Viewsonic XG2401 because its the best in the price range by far and looks great out of the box. It's 240 on amazon, but you can get it for 221 on Jet after 15% discount.
