My hammock. It's dope, the stand is surprisingly portable, and now like 6 of my friends have one. #trendsetting

But honestly, it's just difficult for me to be unhappy in the hammock.

This one. Keep an eye on it as it seems to regularly go on sale, also prime day is coming. Bought one last month and am very happy with it.

I started with one from Amazon ($130 includes the hammock and stand); it worked great, though eventually I did wear out the hammock (using it every day, and not repairing it when I started to notice it getting frayed shortened the life quite a bit). I'm 6' tall and just under 200lbs btw, and this is the hammock/stand that I got: http://www.amazon.com/Vivere-UHSDO9-Double-Hammock-Space-Saving/dp/B004YJCP7O

My daughter has a hammock now, and is using my old stand (which is an awesome stand btw, especially for the money). I hung my hammock (not for the faint hearted, but so far so good) and actually like it hanging better, since I can rock a bit when I'm going to sleep (sort of like a huge bassinet for grownups!) Head over to /r/hammocks for more info. You will need something under you (I just use a sleeping bag) for warmth in the winter, but it is perfect on those hot summer nights.

As for the angle, I sleep in it at a slight diagonal, which causes the hammock to flatten out. I've never been a back sleeper before, but this is surprisingly comfortable. Change the angle of your diagonal until you find a comfortable fit. Added bonus: you can throw your entire bed in the washing machine.

I have purchased a Vivere cotton hammock ($130 on Amazon including a "space-saving" stand)

I saw a recommendation here for it - I will post some sort of review once I use it

u/lukehardy · 5 pointsr/Hammocks

I am almost the exact size as you, I'm a little taller. I use a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC with the standard suspension. Being as tall as you are 11 foot is a must for a comfortable night's sleep. When camping there would be no room for second person in the Blackbird.

While hanging out in the back yard I have a Vivere hammock hooked to tree and metal clothes line post. My wife and I lay in it every nice day with no problems. Here's a link to Amazon and it includes a stand.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B004YJCP7O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_EmXRzb2P4D9PV

I would discourage you from using 4x4s. Before I got my clothes line post I tried to use a 4x4 and it snapped off at the ground and hit me in the head. It hurt quite a bit and I felt like an asshole.

> Also, made the mistake of not using a sheet the first night at 500mg and had a huge sweat stain on the mattress.

These should be a part of every DNP cycle.

This is the hammock that I'm currently using with the included stand. I'm 6'1, 175lbs

http://www.amazon.com/Vivere-UHSDO9-Double-Hammock-Space-Saving/dp/B004YJCP7O/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1408776584&sr=8-5&keywords=hammock

Downside to the hammock is figuring out a bedding situation. I currently use a thin blanket underneath a normal sheet. Then I just use what ever top blanket I need to stay warm if it's chilly.

I sleep on my back, something I can't do in a normal bed! I use a pillow underneath my knees for support.

One good trick to sleeping properly in a hammock is to lay at close to a 30 degree angle, this allows you to become more flat, then you just move around until you find your sweet spot. It can take time to find the correct position, so during this time you are still open to "sleeping wrong" and waking up hurting. This started out as an experiment for me that I was going to do for 30 days, worked so well it's now my preferred way to sleep.

Last year I upgraded my camp with a freestanding hammock, it was great for sleeping in after the tents get too hot https://www.amazon.com/Vivere-Double-Hammock-Space-Saving-Tropical/dp/B004YJCP7O/

u/theADHDway · 4 pointsr/LifeProTips

There are stand combinations like this, some of which fold up and you can also put them directly in the wall on hooks between corners and make your bed by hanging the whole thing by one hook during the day if you don't have much space. Unfortunately, probably due to the season, I haven't found a good folding hammock stand on Amazon. I know they're out there, though, I've seen the pictures.

u/bunnylebowski1 · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

A hammock is the most expensive item on my list. Due to illness, I'm not able to stand or sit up for more than a minute right now, so this would allow me to get outside during the warm months. I would be okay if I never got this.

Thank you for the Lucy in the sky with diamonds contest!

u/Lovemidget · 3 pointsr/Hammocks

If you're going with Amazon, a lot of people seem to have found this satisfactory if you're buying over building.

http://www.amazon.com/Vivere-Double-Hammock-Space-Saving-Tropical/dp/B004YJCP7O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451867848&sr=8-1&keywords=vivere

I sleep in a homemade double right now, but am selling my house in the next week and will be moving into a rental for awhile. I ordered the stand and hammock combo to try. If I like the combo, i'll keep it, if I just like the stand, I'll throw one of my other hammocks in there. I should have it tried out by the end of the week.

u/CedarWolf · 3 pointsr/Hammocks

I'm a little taller than you are, and I happily slept in a Vivere hammock, with a similar stand for about 2 years. It goes with me when I'm on the road.

I would not suggest using an Eno Doublenest with that hammock stand. If you've already got the hammock stand, just grab one of the cheap Brazilian cloth hammocks for $25 or so. Use it for your hammock frame, and don't stress so much if it gets damaged at Bonnaroo. You can wash and dry them, no sweat.

For backpacking and hiking, skip Eno and try one of Dutchware's hammocks instead, which are better quality but at a similar price point.

Also, if you intend to do hammock camping, you're probably going to want to invest in an appropriately-sized rainfly and mosquito netting, as well as hanging straps. These can all drive your cost up quite a bit, so take your time and do your research first.

u/NewtonGimmick · 3 pointsr/ehlersdanlos

I have this but I rotate through a few different hammocks.

If you are able to hang it indoors, though, that'd probably be best as the stands are great but don't quite allow the hammock to hang at the best angle. They're slightly off due to the limitations that come from using a stand.

But I can take the stand apart in a few minutes and take it to the beach/park/whatever, too, if I want to kick back outdoors for a bit in an area with no trees to hang a hammock from.

I love it.

Even if you don't sleep in it full time it may help you relax and reduce the pressure points on your spine and other joints that you get from laying on a more solid surface like a bed/couch. I can more easily put my shoulders and hips back in place simply by lying in the hammock for a few minutes if they slide out of place while I'm going about my day.

u/ChokraKahn · 3 pointsr/Hammocks

It is this Vivere, steel stand, http://www.amazon.com/Vivere-UHSDO9-Double-Hammock-Space-Saving/dp/B004YJCP7O/ref=lp_553836_1_2?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1416153774&sr=1-2

The steel stand weighs 34 lbs., breaks down into 5 pieces, and measures roughly 51" x 8" x 6" when stored in the included, zippered bag. I can see having to replace the bag eventually, but I've been putting some miles on this thing. I use it for regular (car) camping now on top of it being my main sleeping rig for rafting.

For $120, you can get it with the cotton hammock included. I've pitched my ENO doublenest in it too, for camping, works great. My Hennessey also hangs in it but I've not slept in it yet. (Not sure I like the Hennessey; I'm thinking of selling it.)

Here are some photos of the Vivere stand in action, on the river. http://imgur.com/a/5uaFb (as well as my own custom stand.)

Here it is pitched in the back of a pickup with the Hennessey rain fly and ENO doublenest. http://imgur.com/FUsQWEY I did this to stay out of the nasty desert mud and it worked great.

I couldn't be happier with it.

u/julchak · 3 pointsr/hammockcamping

Yeah that's where I found it originally.

Chances are I wouldn't take this on a backpacking trip unless I really wanted to use a hammock in an open area. I'm getting this for car camping in Yosemite where our site has few trees (and I'm determined to use my hammock there).

I have a free standing lounge/yard style hammock ( here ), and would try that stand, however it weighs a crap ton, and I need to bring this as well as all my other gear on the plane to get to Yosemite, so I need something light and portable. This Handy Hammock has been the best I've found...I'd consider making my own but I don't know if I could really make anything lighter/more portable for less money than this.

u/crick2000 · 3 pointsr/CampingGear
u/readspastbedtime · 3 pointsr/hammockcamping

I have this exact one here because my backyard has no trees and I didn't want to make my own stand. If that sounds like your situation, I'd recommend it. If you have decently sized trees though, I'd recommend a regular hammock and straps, just because it's cheaper and more portable.

u/nicktav · 2 pointsr/Hammocks

PS: Try to get it on sale, the price has apparently gone up on Amazon since I got mine.

u/LRGDNA · 2 pointsr/bonnaroo

The first year I used this cotton hammock that I bought with the stand. The second year I used a Mayan hammock that I actually bought at one of the kiosks in centeroo. I really loved the Mayan. I looked up the eno and it should work pretty well. The stand is 9' end to end but is made to work with hammocks up to 15'. Most of the enos run 9'4" so it should fit decently. The actual hooks are further down so you will need short straps to run over the end rails of the stand and hook in.

I've mentioned it on this sub before and don't wish to be associated with shilling, but am pretty happy with it:

Vivere hammock stand combo on Amazon

  1. If you're not in a hurry to buy it, this regularly seems to go on sale (more during the cold months) for <$100.

  2. The standalone version of the stand is also available, but for the price (especially when <$100) the hammock it comes with is not a bad deal and fairly comfortable.

  3. It's my impression that when using other 3rd party parachute hammocks with this that they're less than entirely comfortable for a full night's sleep; I suspect that these do best when spread out with 15'-20' of space between trees. Camping accommodations are nearly always a compromise between weight and comfort however, and I think this is a reasonable compromise for a relatively portable, freestanding hammock stand.
u/deck_hand · 2 pointsr/Hammocks

This picture shows you how the stand is intended to be used.

u/jeffmolby · 2 pointsr/Hammocks

This one has treated me well for the past year. You could open your room up more if you found a way to do without the stand, but it'll still be better than a bed.

What's a hammock with springs?

If I just plopped this hammock in my room, how would that alleviate the vibration: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004YJCP7O/

First floor: Vivere space-saving steel stand

Basement: 12' chain link fence top rail suspended via 7/64" Amsteel whoopies from ceiling joists above drop ceiling (using through-bolts and chain link connectors at the joists). Hammock hung from ends using Harbor Freight poly webbing and becket hitch knot, à la Turtledog stand (but without the tripods).

u/bnkls · 2 pointsr/Hammocks

Looks fine to me as long as you have room for a 15' hammock on your porch. My advice to you is to get as big of a hammock as possible and to get a gathered end hammock instead of a spreader bar hammock because they're much comfier and easier to nap in.

This is what I sleep in full time and personally I love it. It's very lightweight, solid and easily constructed. And there's room for the two of you to cuddle up and shit if you want to.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/Hammocks

Consider this one. I sleep in it everynight and it supports two people just fine! I will say I prefer this one to many of the other stands on amazon as its clever design makes it shorter than most stands.

What do you intend to do with it? I got the Woot special indoor hammock with a stand for $100 and I think it's great for relaxing indoors. I can even sleep in it, I just have to bend my one leg. However, it's pretty strictly for indoors and I wouldn't choose to sleep in it every night. If you want to see what I'm talking about, Amazon has it, just search for UHSDO9. The price varies a lot. Maybe if I post the Amazon link, that one bot will show us the high/low.

Rad, that answers my question perfectly. I really dig the hammock a lot more than this one, but it's a bit too much material for me. Thanks!

u/0x18 · 1 pointr/Hammocks

This is what you want -- It's $130, if you have Amazon Prime the shipping is free, it's mildly portable (I could take this with me on a trip), it weighs 34 pounds and is rated to support 400, it's 9 feet long and is absolutely comfortable my height (6').

Sometimes I did really wish it was bit longer but nothing too uncomfortable.
this are mainly made for the Cotton hammocks which are more comfortable for indoor setup.

It managed to keep me off the ground with the sag involved ;), I imagine it will work for you too

I've used this one for quite a while and can recommend it. But any other Brazilian hammock I'd recommend over a parachute one for nightly sleep, they're warmer.

I’ve gotten pretty close.

Buy a hammock. Not a one of the rope ones, the fabric ones. Make sure it’s one that is big enough to wrap around you when you get in. Then, grab a soft blanket and get in. Would suggest using a second one on the bottom as well, or have one big enough to wrap around you as the bottom isn’t insulated well. You’ll also want a pillow for lounging in it. If have a small bean bag one I like, but have also grabbed a throw pillow off the couch and used that.

Bought this one almost a year ago. Got it for $65 and had it inside all winter. Honestly it’s just as comfortable as my bed and I slept in it frequently. My sister came over while I was away for a week to feed my cat. She would dismiss herself from school (senior in high school, at 18 you can dismiss yourself) and go take naps in it.

u/senseandsarcasm · 1 pointr/Hammocks

I have one of these. It holds up to 450 pounds, apparently. I don’t think you can buy just the stand without the hammock, though.

Will there be "walls" to hang tapestries from? They pack small and add a lot of warmth and flair to a space—while increasing shade during the day. Scarves and whatnot can be nice, too. Think of how you'll hang them – tarp clips, bungees, and zip-ties are handy. (I'm going to try these this year: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GLN1TLL/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AGZ9AHQAQD41N&psc=1 )

If you can figure out a hammock or two you'll be hailed as a hero. I have a couple of lightweight portable hammocks for improvised comfort around BRC, and I found one of these on craigslist cheap: https://www.amazon.com/Vivere-Double-Hammock-Space-Saving-Tropical/dp/B004YJCP7O But you can find plans for homemade hammock stands online, too.

And don't sleep on bedsheets lol – I mean old sheets from home or Goodwill can be a lightweight way to cover things and soften an area, make shade, or even cover a ground tarp as a lightweight "carpet" you can sweep or shake out. (You did remember a broom of some kind, right?)

Hope you have a stellar Burn!

u/Toddspickle · 1 pointr/DIY

I think you would have a tough time finding a material that is strong enough, cheap enough to beat this price point:

Sometime people screw an i-hook into a post then hang the hammock from that assuming you have a stable post/stud that can handle the weight. Otherwise that stand/hammock from amazon is pretty good and you can take it apart. I have one and really like it.
