Instant is the fastest; Starbucks Via is pretty good, could be too strong for some. It's annoying that it only comes in single packets (in London you can buy tins of it).

Espresso is fast. A handheld espresso like the MiniPresso can make it very quickly. However, it only makes one shot at a time, so to make 4 doubles it takes quite a bit of time to reset for each shot.

Aeropress is likewise fast, but again suffers from the ability to make large amounts at once.

A larger French press can make a decent amount of coffee at once, needing to steep for about 3-4 minutes, and resets pretty quickly. The GSI Java Press comes in a 50oz and is made of Lexan (or was, not sure what it the BPA free is made of now). I've got a couple of older ones and they work well enough.

Or cowboy coffee and a fine strainer.

Additionally, if you want to have real espresso on the trail, my research has indicated that this is one of the best manual espresso makers available.

This looks great, so I looked up some reviews. There may be some issues after only a short while pertaining to leakage, cleaning out properly to prevent mold and it breaking after heavy usage.

The lightest, assuming you dont want to use instant coffee, would probably be a titanium cup and a filter basket.

If you want a more espresso type coffee then the minipresso might be more what you want, it is somewhat heavy though.

The aeropress is also pretty popular.

aeropress

there's also THIS thing for fauxspresso, but I've not tried it.

Don't know about the states so, but I have the minipresso and it's great! Obviously it's not the same as a true espresso machine but for the price it works!

The Minipresso with a hand grinder is my go to. For portable coffee. I actually carry one on the daily in my bag to work.

If you have the patience, the ground floor entry level is the Minipresso. Totally mechanical, one shot at a time: LINK

Total $50

2- get an AeroPress $30 with this Frenchpress $15 and aboved mention pitcher for aeropress lattes... Total $50
