I think I know exactly the one you mean. I have been using this Wahl trimmer for about...five years straight. I haven't really oiled it or maintained it at all. I figured it was so cheap I'd just abuse and replace it. Five years later and it's going strong, and when I snapped the adjustable comb they mailed me a new one free. It does an admirable job getting my neck as close to clean-shaven as a non-foil trimmer will ever do, and it doesn't yank my skin up and cut me like my Trym II and my cheap Remington beard trimmer. I've tried upgrading four times and always gone back. It's a workhorse.

I have the style of hair you're looking at. I just use this beard trimmer with no guard on it.

Just invest in a cheap battery operated clipper (e.g. this). Use any size guard (but not none), pull the hair away from your balls/shaft and trim it.

You're aiming for a lawn, not a desert.

I use this $15 one and it's great. Six months and counting on the first set of batteries. In addition to a couple of small fixed guards, it has an adjustable guard that isn't very pointy. Handy for private parts that don't like being poked. :)

Disclosure: I am not a woman.

I don't pay more than $20 for a beard trimmer, because regardless of price, they are all made of mostly plastic. I have a Wahl that's lasted 4 years so far. It's rechargeable. I think it's this one for $15us. I even manage to sharpen the blades on it myself.

I can personally vouch for this one.

You could use a battery powered trimmer like this one, but it is probably better to do a check before you leave home, or be more attentive to maintenance throughout the week.

If your mornings are too crazy, trim your neckline at night.
