Wahl Bald Trimmer -- best damn money spent... (and in the long run you save tons of money on haircuts) It's quality, built like a tank, cuts fast, close, clean, and safe. Shaving works too but it's time consuming (IMO) this does 98% of the work in a minute or two. I give myself a buzz up top every two weeks usually.

Seriously - you are worried about it now, but just imagine being one of those guys who thinks he's being sneaky and trying for a comb over.

Don't buy Conair anything.

I shaved my head weekly for more than 10 years (for maintenance purposes and a consistent appearance). Over that time I made the mistake of buying multiple Conair clippers at different price points and was disappointed every time. They pull, take bites out of your skin and wear out quickly.

Get these. Mine held up for 3 years of weekly use. For what it's worth, they still work well, I just grew my hair out.

I've have many sets of clippers over the years and these are by far the best I have owned. You can pay much more for professional clippers but for the price you can't beat them. Might need to get an additional set of guides if the few they come with don't work.

I shave about twice a week. I do a two step process:

1. I will use Wahl balding to buzz off my hair.
   
   
2. I use hair conditioner as shaving cream, lather on thick.
   
   
3. I use my wife's Venus 5 blade razor to shave. You'll learn what way the grain of your head is. You'll also get a feel (using your hand/fingers) for when your head is smooth.
   
4. Clean up the mess I've made in the bathroom.
   
5. Jump in the shower and get cleaned up

I bought new blades for them once so far, they are ace! but if i had a set for say @20 id buy a new set.

I did clippers for 10 years, and my brother does also. It's not the same as a razor, but it's close enough that it doesn't matter.

Yep, try the Wahl Balding Clipper... I have a pair and they're incredible for head shaving. I don't know about nickel content, though.. but at $38 it might be worth a try.

Wahl professional balding clippers are a good price/quality ratio. Just oil them after every use (which you will find are the directions of any good clippers) and they should last many years. Been cutting my own hair without a guard for about 3 months now (they come with 2 guards) and I've never cut or hurt myself (some reviews of other clippers got so close they caused skin irritation, never had that problem).

Took me a month of looking for clippers on and off before I decided on these. Couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I have a pair of these since I tried to shave my head in my younger years and ended up with some less than desirable results. With one pass I get such a close shave that everyone assumes that I shave it! They are a bit expensive but built like a tank and I've had that same pair for 2 years going on strong. You will not get a closer hair with anything!

I've had the clippers since 2012, I've never oiled them because I'm lazy. At this rate, my cost per haircut is < $1 (~1 haircut per mo. or more).

Get these. I've had this pair for 5 years and use it every other day. Blades are still sharp and I have had absolutely no problems with it.

That is the one I have, it works well however I pretty much only use the razor now. My roommate uses it from time to time and his only complaint is how sharp it is. I have not used any other Wahl clippers but this one is great quality.

The Wahl Balding Clippers cut down to .2mm. You might be able to get even closer with a blade adjustment, but that's probably about as low as you'll get. With clippers, there will always be a piece of metal in between the skin and the blade, and that can only be so thin.

Well then my long lost brother, let me introduce you to the wahl 8110 balding clippers. these babies are designed to get as close as mechanically possible to the skin, and actually operate at fast enough speeds (unlike most "hair" clippers) that it will cut without pulling, and without taking hours. I first shave with these and then come back through with a higher end razor, since like you said, its so thick normally its like taking a butterknife to a rainforest.

As someone who have shaved his head weekly for a decade or so now, I recommend spending a couple dollars more and getting a slightly better model than the low end.

That's what I have and visually it shaves as close as a razor, shaves quicker, and just feels more sturdy.

How much worse it will get depends on you. The hair loss isn't going to stop unless you are willing to spend money on expensive and questionable hair-restoration treatments.

Alternatively, you can grab a good pair of clippers (I upgraded to these bad boys a few years ago and I love them to death) and take charge of not just your hair, but other people's perception of you.

Your choice.

Buy a real barber style set of hair clippers. They cost around $50 but totally worth it as it should last for years and will cut your hair way easier and more effectively than a beard trimmer.
