I used the Wahl Peanut trimmer when I was keeping my beard short. Lots of power plus with it being a plug in you don't have to worry about it dying halfway through. (Happened to me several times with cordless trimmers.)

Whal Peanut

These clippers were recommended by the lady who's cut my hair for years. She said the last pair she had broke down after 8 years from nearly daily use and never needed any real maintenance. So, I'm sure yours will last a helluva lot longer.

I have the Wahl Peanut. Really great beard trimmer. I can't see myself switching to anything else.

I got mine as a gift from my aunt who is a hair dresser, and she got it from a beauty supply store. Which one, I don't know, and they probably don't have a website. But check out any local beauty supply shops around you. Even ask a barber or hairdresser where you might find one.

All else fails, Amazon sells it. But it's a little overpriced through there.

Skip the rechargeable trimmers. I went through 3 before I finally wised up and bought what my hair stylist recommended, a Wahl Peanut.

P.S. The Art of Shaving isn't a high end shaving shop. It's an overpriced retail store which sells shaving-related materials and equipment.

Hey! I like your look. We have really similar face shapes and facial hair growth patterns.

First off clean it up. We all have hairs that grow in random directions, or are extra long. If you just follow the lines of your beard with a trimmer, you'll probably see improvement immediately.

Trim the sides so that they make straight lines going down, slightly inwards. Think of it almost like a hairy jawline. We're a bit wide in the cheeks so keep it shorter as it goes down. For me the transition from straight to curly hair is around the middle of my ear, but I keep it short until it reaches the bottom of the ear.

Finally, clean up the neck beard area. Our hair grows faster on the neck side of the jawline, which is great for fleshing the beard out and making it thick and full, but means neck-y beards come with the territory. You just want to shorten the hairs in the back so that the hair up front can do all the talking.

So now you've cleaned it all up and shortened the sideburn area. On a scale of Rick Ross to [Tenzen] (http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/avatar/images/d/d6/Tenzin.png/revision/latest?cb=20131117230615) you wanna lean towards Tenzen. Not in shaving your cheeks but in the overall shape. Notice that Tenzen's length is coming from chin hairs and goatee hairs, not throat hairs. This is the key to getting away from the neck beard.

You can do all this with a steady hand and a decent trimmer. I use the peanut from Wahl. Good luck buddy! You look good now but you're like thirty five minutes away from being a truly sexy mofo.

I got the Wahl Peanut this past Christmas and it seems like it's got the right stuff to be around for years.

Here's a big overview of it.

Wahl's peanut is the best set of clippers I've ever owned. If you ever get tired of buying batteries, there is a wired version that is 30 dollars cheaper.

I went from a battery powered Remington to a Wahl Peanut (wired) a few months ago. It was highly recommended on TheSweetHome and it can be used on all parts of the body except nose hair. I have zero complaints.

I use a corded one because there's never really a time where I need to trim my beard and don't have access to a power outlet, it gives you a bit more power, and you never worry about batteries. Specifically, I use the [Wahl Peanut 8655] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FDKGIW?tag=thesweethome-20&linkCode=as2&creative=374929&camp=211189). I've been using it since I grew out a beard a year ago and it works great for me. There's four guards plus empty to use and they are pretty big jumps.

I use this: https://www.amazon.com/MANGROOMER-Ultimate-Shaver-Absorber-Extreme/dp/B00FULYKG4

There was a really hilarious commercial but I can't find it.

Important though I want you to know that it's not a super close shave as far as electric shavers go, but cosmetically speaking it gets the job done.

For a much closer shave (but it's without the reach of the mangroomer, so either just use it where you can or have someone use it on you) I recommend the peanut shaver: https://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Professional-Clipper-Trimmer-8655-200/dp/B001FDKGIW

I have relatively think beard hair and the battery options just weren't cutting it - pun intended.

Check out the Whal Peanut - https://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Professional-Clipper-Trimmer-8655-200/dp/B001FDKGIW

  • small and easy to handle with both hands (right hand to left no problem)
  • it will cut through my thick beard in one pass - my battery powered Phillips used to get bogged down and would take several (read 10+) to get it looking clean. This is one pass and done.
  • packaging claims its commercial grade. My barber has one so n = at least 1.
  • smaller cutting head really isn't that big of a deal for me. It allows for some precision even.

Only con is the lack of attachments. It comes with 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" guards and I don't see anything other than those sizes for the Peanut on Amazon. If you are looking to use this on your head, definitely consider this first.

My husband uses one of these. I personally like a little bit of hair down there on men, but women gotta be clean-shaven.

I'd probably recommend this instead. Most of those beard trimmers are kind of crappy.
