Same here. Watch comes off and I use a Wahoo Tickr Fit. It's great.
A separate monitor will continuously track your heart rate and be more accurate, and so much of the metrics on the bike rely on it.
I bought the Wahoo Tickr Fit, it's am armband style and works really well both in terms of accuracy and with DDPY
