1 TB SATA SSD have been at 150ish for some time now. Patience and buy if it’s under 130

Edit: Evidence WD 1 TB Reg Price in Amazon for a few weeks now $149

Same Crucial on Amazon 159$ regular price

My question, is this https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B073SB2MXT/
(WD Blue 3D NAND 1TB Internal PC SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s, M.2 2280, Up to 560 MB/s - WDS100T2B0B) worth $65? It's a normal sata speed m.2, not nvme

I have a free m.2 slot that doesn't support nvme, just normal sata speeds.

I also think the higher end builds should have a 1TB ssd, and this one is nice.

And as other commenters said, a better PSU and perhaps a nicer case (meshify C, and H500 are both nice) on the higher end builds would be a good improvement.

This WD Blue 1TB M.2 SATA SSD is $115, but goes on sale for $99 pretty often. There is also the intel 1TB 660p NVMe M.2 drive that runs about $90. Both are good options, I have the WD Blue one and it works perfectly, it probably costs a bit more because of brand/reliability.

u/JagSKX · 6 pointsr/laptops

Since it is new to you, then you need to be aware that there are two different types of m.2 SSDs; SATA and PCie NVMe. Based on the locations of the pins in the picture you provided, that is a SATA SSD so do not buy one that is advertised as PCIe NVMe.

Linked below is a WD Blue SATA SSD.

Looks fine, the one thing you might look into is a 1 tb m.2 drive, as they're getting pretty cheap on amazon and would offer some space savings and potentially better system speeds.

  1. Yes.
  2. Yes.
  3. Depends. There are cheap SSDs and expensive SSDs.
u/roll_the_ball · 3 pointsr/kingdomcome

Then HDD is your bottleneck in your rig.

If you are on a budged (and have board with M2, which is implied by k processor), WD blue has best bang for buck value. You won't notice any difference IRL usage if you go for SATA variant, but prices are kind of on par.

SSDs are mainstream in midrange gaming rigs for at least 5 years and whoever build your rig deserves kick in the balls.

Black friday sales are around the corner or you can wish for nice christmas present.

Last recomendation: Don't go for anything below 1TB, most of new AAA games are over 100GB install so lower capacities are not worth the vicious hustle unless you have at least 1Gb fiber internet.

u/Laxative_ · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

Link to m.2 SSD.

Both are priced at $134.99 and are eligible for prime shipping.

u/IgnoranceIsAVirus · 2 pointsr/pchelp

Hrmmm, maybe for video, but loading and playing games , an nvme has 4x the bandwidth, no seek times, and no damage with vibration, and about 2-10 times the mtbf.

No moving parts means less likely to fail, faster loading, lower energy costs, faster to recover from sleep mode (no spinning up again)...

Hard drives are good for backup but not primary storage with the prices on SSD's dropping like crazy.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073SB2MXT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_JmxWCbNHATCTY
107$ for storage 1tb

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MH2P5ZD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_4oxWCbY35HFRK
107$ for boot and gaming 500gb

And I know you don't want to admit that storage doesn't affect frames per second... You're right...
But how many times are you going to die in a game and have to wait at a loading screen? 20-30 seconds? 5 deaths = 100 to 150 seconds of loading screens...

All because you went with an old cheap SATA HDD you're throwing your own time in the garbage.

Look at uptime/useable time and you will see the investment pay out in load times.

Yes, just be careful not to get the M.2 or PCI versions. For example, this one should work on a standard SATA drive connector:

https://www.amazon.ca/Blue-NAND-1TB-SSD-WDS100T2B0A/dp/B073SBQMCX/

This one is an M.2. style, which would *NOT* fit your board

https://www.amazon.ca/Blue-NAND-1TB-SSD-WDS100T2B0B/dp/B073SB2MXT

The model #'s are pretty similar, but you can see from the pictures that they're quite different (M.2 is a chip style, whereas the standard SATA is roughly the size of a laptop drive). Note that while standard SSH's are the size of 2.5" laptop drives, most come with a little plate or whatever to fit a full-size (3.5") bracket for desktops

u/GhostBond · 2 pointsr/buildapc

You're spending $80 on 2 drives and ending up mainly with a slow laggy hdd.

For $90 ($10 more) you could buy the 1tb version of the same ssd:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FM9SSP6/

For $110 you could get the more reputable wd blue 3d (what I personally went with):
https://www.amazon.com/Blue-NAND-1TB-SSD-WDS100T2B0B/dp/B073SB2MXT/

It made sense to buy 2 drives when a 1tb ssd cost $500, but nowdays it's not worth it until you need 2tb or more.

u/fureddit1 · 2 pointsr/laptops

No worries.

I bought this WD SSD:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073SB2MXT/ref=twister_B07BXC53V5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

And now I'm a little pissed because I just bought this SSD a week ago and it was $149 when I bought it and now it's $135.

Anyways, it was sort of a pain in the butt to install since Dell doesn't give you any way to make a backup on USB or DVD. I had to install the SSD, clone the stuff off the HDD onto the SSD using the WD Acronis software that you download from the WD website and then disconnect the HDD and let the laptop boot up with the SSD so the laptop would boot to the SSD instead of the HDD. And then I had to reset the install on the SSD because something was wrong with the SSD partition.

But it was worth it. It was quite painful having to wait so long for the laptop to boot from the HDD.

u/rocketgenie · 2 pointsr/buildapcsalesuk

For gaming, does it make more sense to go for this or the slower but cheaper Western Digital?

Just want one drive in new build.

Thanks for any advice.

u/77xak · 2 pointsr/buildapc

This build will get 144+ even in new AAA games.

Only changes I would make: NVME SSD's do basically nothing for gaming, get a 1TB SATA for the same price.(Or 500 and save money)

850W PSU is super overkill, I would get either get EVGA G3 650/750 or P2 650/750.

Edit: Also you can't OC on that motherboard, get a Z370. If you don't want to overclock then don't get a K cpu and don't get water cooling.

u/TheBookSloth · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Nah the psu is perfectly fine. Don’t think they’ll be going for a 2080 TI plus you won’t find any sfx with a higher wattage than 600 (Corsair has one for 750w) but it’s expensive. I have a similar set up except the 600w Gold rated on a gtx 980 and an i7-9700k, nearly identical set up

You’re spot on about the m.2.

u/justinm517 · 2 pointsr/buildapcvideoediting

Watch out; "M.2" is simply an SSD form-factor. If you're looking for a super-fast (but more expensive) SSD, what you should be looking for is an "NVMe M.2 SSD". The keyword here is "NVMe", which is the interface that blesses an SSD with extremely high speeds. An example of this would be the Samsung 970 EVO.

If you're looking for a regular-fast (and cheaper) SSD, what you're looking for is a "SATA M.2 SSD". The keyword here is "SATA", which is a slower interface that is limited to a max theoretical transfer speed of 6Gb/s (6 Gigabit, or 0.75 Gigabyte). An example of this would be the WD Blue M.2 SSD.

>What the speed up to on m.2?

Here's a comparison:

The Samsung 970 EVO, which uses a PCIe Gen 3.0 Interface, has a Maximum Sequential Read Speed of 3,500MB/s (spec listed on Samsung website).

The Corsair MP600 drive (listed by /u/yeezust), which uses a PCIe Gen 4.0 Interface, has a Maximum Sequential Read Speed of 4,950MB/s (spec listed on Corsair website).

u/macmo920 · 2 pointsr/sffpc

Hey OP! I've just ordered this Mobo in the mail and am confused on the M.2 options of this model.

Are both drives NVME, that would fit something like this one here or are either of them this style of M.2?

Sorry if dumb question, I'm not sure how to distinguish the two M.2 slots. I know the first link is NVME and second is not, but I don't know if there are different names for the two M.2 slots.

u/yaosio · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

If you're only gaming get a SATA drive, NVME currently offers zero benefit but it also doesn't hurt anything. M.2 or standard SATA will work fine. The Western Digital Blue 1 TB SATA M.2 drive is currently $250 on Amazon and it saturates the SATA bus. M.2 SATA and regular SATA are the same speed, so don't worry about any speed differences there.

Edit: This is the one I'm talking about. Looks like the price went up slightly. The 2.5 inch drive is $250 though. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073SB2MXT/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's definitely a M.2 SATA SSD. That's why the price is so low. $139.99 for a terabyte - that's the lowest I've seen, as I mentioned in another post that I just made. (Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/9tnl9o/ssd_prices_expected_to_fall_through_2019_classic/).

It's okay, though. I'm trying to keep the cost of my build down, so an M.2 SATA is fine for my purposes. It's going to replace the 2.5" SSD on my mini-ITX build because building in it is so hard because of the lack of space.

Here's the link to the M.2 SATA SSD that I purchased yesterday and I'm considering canceling, because if prices are just going to keep going down then I might as well return it since I don't need it right now. Part of why I bought it was because I'm worried prices will go back up again. Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073SB2MXT/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Few cables as possible. M.2 is a form factor. m.2 drives can use sata or pcie. They aren't all pricey. High cost comes when using PCI-e lanes.

Example: This 1 TB M.2 from WD is $159 while This one is $359. Both are m.2 but one uses sata the other pcie lanes.

Looking to get an m.2 SSD for games. Deciding on either this WD Blue or this Intel one. Is there a significant speed difference to justify an extra $15? I don't mind spending it but I don't see a point in extra money if they're rather similar.

Thank you for all your help. It turns out that I need an m.2 version of an SSD. Upon perusal of forums it has thrown up the below issues and I would appreciate any advice regarding it. Please see below.

u/unnecessarycolon · 1 pointr/buildapc

I have a small SSD that I have my OS and a few programs on. I'd like to get a larger SSD so I could keep games and all my Adobe software on it. I use a lot of Photoshop and Illustrator and only work Premiere very rarely. I've been looking at this 1TB WD m.2 SSD. I've used the only standard SSD mount so I would like it to be m.2. I know this one isn't NVME but is it still worth it getting a sata m.2 drive?

edit: This one is $150 USD and getting a Samsung 960 EVO would be $275. Is the difference really that big?

u/Specte · 1 pointr/buildapc

If you have an m.2 slot, this is a good buy right now at $140:

u/Misspells_Just · 1 pointr/buildapc

Which M.2 SSD would you recommend pairing with a 2TB HDD for normal applications (OS and games)?

u/Daiterian · 1 pointr/buildapc

These are much cheaper than [these] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07822Z77M/?tag=pcpapi-20). Is there a big difference in performance?

u/pm_me_a_left_nipple · 1 pointr/buildapc

You have an additional m.2 slot on your mobo, so I would grab another SSD that will fit in that instead of going with a sata connected 2.5" ssd. There are a lot of 1tb and 512gb ones floating around right now for around $100-150.

Here is 1tb for $114

u/SteFFz99 · 1 pointr/Laptop

Well, if you want, I suggest you to keep the storage device that came with the laptop (probably an HDD that has at least 500GB) and get a M.2 SSD. There are some cheap ones from WD like this one or even cheaper. I linked the 1Tb version which is a pretty good value for 114$. Also if you buy this you can get rid of the HDD and make your laptop even lighter.

I strongly suggest getting a M.2 SSD, it connects directly to the motherboard of the laptop. But first check if your laptop has M.2 slots. This is a basic M.2 SSD that acts like a normal one in a different form factor, high end M.2 SSD are waaaaaaay faster.

  1. don't buy that ssd, you are paying as much for a 1 TB ssd for a 275 GB ---- look into a Western Digital Blue 1Tb NVME ssd https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073SB2MXT/?tag=pcpapi-20 that way you get more storage for the same price
  2. You can get cheaper RAM at the same speed https://pcpartpicker.com/product/DHPzK8/team-vulcan-16gb-2-x-8gb-ddr4-3000-memory-tlgd416g3000hc16cdc01 --- no need to spend more money when you don't need to, unless you like the look of the Corsair RAM
  3. You power supply, while big enough is not very efficient. I would recommend a 80 + Gold rated power supply as they seem to be the best in terms of size/efficiency to price. For $20 more you can get a 550 W 80 + Gold fully modular power supply. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/qYTrxr/evga-power-supply-220g20550y1 ---- If you don't like this specific one I listed, I would recommend a B tier or better.
  4. You have no bottlenecking issues.
    Have fun building

I'd probably go with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-NAND-1TB-SSD-WDS100T2B0B/dp/B073SB2MXT?psc=1&SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duckduckgo-d-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B073SB2MXT

Doesn't have the read and write speed of a Samsung Evo but it's 50 bucks cheaper than their 870 model and will still do well.

u/SystemError514 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I am looking for a 1tb M.2 SATA SSD. I am not bothered about the price really, but I would like to know which one is the best in terms of speed and lifespan.

The WD Blue has dropped down to £130 and I was thinking of picking it up, but would a Samsung SSD be better for example?

Thanks.

step into the future without hard drives, WD blue m.2 is a bargain. you can overclock a 2700 to match the 2700x or just buy the 2700x for 10 more right now; best non-gaming desktop cpu. low latency ram is nice to have but you can swap in the high latency cheaper stuff everyone else is suggesting to get it under the 1k mark. 580 is a killer GPU for the price with tons of VRAM

If I wanted to get an M.2 SSD such as this Western Digital one, do I need to check for any compatibility issues? My motherboard has a M keyed slot

u/CrispinVanDamn · 1 pointr/buildapc

I just did one last check. You can save some cash while not losing performance if you get:

- This SSD: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B073SB2MXT/?tag=pcp0f-20

- This GPU: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07JBTS8HR/?tag=pcp0f-20

- This monitor: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07FB6SY6Z/?tag=pcp0f-20

I don't see the SPEC-DELTA on Amazon which is a shame :(

So either stick with the case you chose, consider this: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01LVTH7ZO/?tag=pcp0f-20, or look at the Inwin 101 if you're okay with only having one tempered glass panel - it's a beautiful, high-quality case IMO. This ain't half bad either: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07FL1D5RV/ref=dp_cerb_2

All of my other suggestions stand. For 2500 CAD, you'll have a beast of a computer I'm already envious of.

u/CarefulPsychology · 1 pointr/buildapc
  1. You can get m.2 regular speed for cheaper. You shouldn't notice the difference unless you are doing tasks that routinely require you to read/write gigabytes of data.

    https://www.amazon.com/Blue-NAND-1TB-SSD-WDS100T2B0B/dp/B073SB2MXT/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=m.2&qid=1567648638&s=pc&sr=1-5

  2. I could be totally wrong on this but I don't think Intel benefits very much from fast ram. You could save a bit by going with some slower ram. (verify this because I'm not sure if this info is correct).

  3. 750 watt PSU is very large for your system. You could save a bit by going with a lower wattage PSU.

The only way you could get a vr capable pc for under $700 would be to build one with buying the main components used off Ebay. Let me see if I can put together something:

Used Parts
GPU - $95
CPU, motherboard, and memory - $233

New Parts
Power Supply - $50
Hard Drive - $110
Case - $45

Total - $533

You'll still need a mouse and keyboard, which you can spend as little or as much as you want on. If you have a TV with an hdmi input, which you probably do, you can use that as a monitor. This will satisfy the minimum requirements for most headsets, but just barely. You would be better off getting a gtx 1070 over a 970.

GTX 1070 - $260

New Total - $698

That would give you a better experience, but is obviously more expensive. If you haven't built your own pc yet, don't feel intimidated. There are plenty of guides on youtube and it is very simple. It is also a right of passage. Putting it together yourself will also allow you to upgrade one component at a time later on. Used pc parts are usually pretty good. All the stuff I listed should be able to work for another 8 years or so, well beyond the time they will be obsolete. Feel free to ask any questions.

u/3Stripescyn · 1 pointr/buildapc

Your list and price are perfect, you know to wait for custom cards, everything is ready to go! Although if you have a 240 Sata ssd and money left over you could go for a 1tb m.2 ssd, substantially cheaper now

Is this an ok SSD? https://www.amazon.com/Blue-NAND-1TB-SSD-WDS100T2B0B/dp/B073SB2MXT

I don't need those high end ones, just something to replace my 1TB HDD. I'm getting choppy gameplay on open world games.
