The book is about learning to decipher bird language, and it's incredibly fascinating. Birds know WTF is going on in the area around them, and if you learn how to understand their vocalization and behavior, you can know too.
The author goes so far as to claim he can tell not only that an animal (or human) is approaching, but how far away it is and what animal it is, based solely on how the birds in the distance are reacting to it. It's a huge subject. You get really into it and it opens up a whole new understanding of the woods, almost on a spiritual level.
