You don't have to disconnect all the hoses and lean the machine onto its front, you can just pull the machine forward and lean it back against the wall and work on it from underneath if you want the short-cut.
Basically, this is a big problem with your type of machine -- there's a small speed sensor that stops working, and the machine can't spin or agitate without it. It's an easy install, and will save you about $180.
