Who Rules The World by Noam Chomsky has a few chapters on this and other CIA Black Sites. Actually most of the book is about the US doing whatever the fuck it wants in the world because it can. Pretty dense read, but really interesting and eye opening stuff.

Howard Zinn's A People's History is a great step to fixing the whitewashed US History classes you had.

Noam Chomsky does excellent work looking at fucked up dealings US has, he has an extensive body of work but his recent Who Rules The World? Has both current and historical perspective.

Millions of people around the world are asking the same question and there's no straightforward answer. The world is being eaten by corporations. Go to any town in the united states and you'll probably see row after row of corporate chains that killed all of the human businesses which were actually in touch with their communities, because those that owned them were in them, not at a distance in some skyscraper somewhere. The world is getting so dark. The freedom of people in capitalist societies depends on healthy competition. If there is fake competition, i.e. corporatism, people surely have fake liberty. If you want a glimpse into what deep shit we're in, check out chomsky's book. I don't believe most people can even grasp the type of evil shit that's going on now.

It's not only you brother. The next world war won't be fought by nations, but by individuals against the powers that have colluded to undermine the sovereignty of all nations. If you kill yourself, you'll be a casualty of that war. Don't waste your life for nothing. We're gonna have to come together eventually to resist what is being done. People will fight back. Keep an eye out and get involved with things around you that may help the cause.

I'm not exactly an Anarchist, per say, though I am a strong ally, so I'll offer up my 2 cents here.

As far as general radicalizing, accessible texts by Anarchists go? Gotta be Chomsky, dude.

Requiem, Manufacturing Consent and Who Rules the World? are excellent introductions to deconstructing mainstream hegemony- step 1 towards radicalization.

(edit: and Requiem for the American Dream even has a documentary based on it, so that makes it even more accessible if your friend doesn't feel like diving into a massive swathe of books right away. You can even watch it for free online!)

Now general anti-capitalist work? That's more my speed. Here's a reading list I made a while back of books that I've enjoyed which are both socially radical and operate within a Marxist (or at least socialist) framework. Some on specific social issues, others addressing Capitalism directly.
