I’m glad you’re starting to feel at peace!

There’s a Catholic author named Dan Mattson that went though something similar and wrote a book about his experience if you’re interested:

I encourage you to read "Why I don't call myself gay" by Daniel Mattson. It covers this topic far better than I ever could.

Father James Martin is that you?

And yes. There are people who “struggle” with same sex attraction. They may not be able to stop themselves from feeling that attraction entirely, but they resist the desire to turn those attractions into actions.

CCC 2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

Sure, a lot of people, those with same sex attraction and others, would disagree with the Church's teachings on homosexual acts. That's to be expected; it's not of the world but of God.

Ultimately, the Church would present its understanding and presentation of these matters as far more humanizing than popular culture's. We reject the wholesale identification of these people as "gay." They're not defined by their sexuality; they, like all of us, are defined by their reality as children of God.

If you're interested on this topic, you could try reading Why I Don't Call Myself Gay by Daniel Mattson. He's a devout Catholic who used to live an active homosexual lifestyle, but has come to recognize the truth and transcendence of the Church's teachings on human sexuality.
