The unit doesn’t go in the window, there are hoses that go out from the ac. It’s an older model of this.

Husband bought this - amazing product! https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002W87P9C?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

When our AC died we hooked this up to the window in our bedroom and shut the door to the rest of the house - it cooled our bedroom to a nice 76°f for a day our two as the ac specialists were prepping install

Acrylic was $90, but we had a fairly tall window to cover.

Unit was this, but damn it was only $300 when we got it back in March.

Only one I found a year ago that has a intake and exhaust hoses probably too big for a small closet but might work. This may work, but a charm it is not. You'll be dealing with humidity by the time the whole ice thing is melting, and then having to dump it out and replace with new ice, all summer long- that's not gonna last.

I lived in an apartment for years without central or air units, and wish I had just bought a unit. Get a window unit or a portable a/c unit that ducts out the window. http://www.amazon.com/Whynter-Portable-Conditioner-Heater-ARC-14SH/dp/B002W87P9C

As explained below, one intake and one exhaust.

Single hose units intake air from the room (which is your cool, conditioned air) and vent outside. While they cool, they're also sucking some cool air from inside your house and blowing it outside.

Dual hose units don't have this problem - both intake and exhaust are performed with outside air, so all your expensive cold air stays inside :)

The one I use in my workshop is a Haier 14,000BTU portable unit, I really like it and it's seen very heavy use. Sorry I can't seem to find it online, it appears to be discontinued. Here's one made by Whynter that has pretty good reviews.

I've got this unit: Whynter 14000 BTU

Area: ~750sqft

Dual hose unit, and I keep a blanket wrapped around the hot air hose for a little insulation.

No real other advice. My unit is probably overkill for a smaller place or a single room, but the fact that it can cool my bedroom at the far end of the house is a huge plus.

This thing weighs a ton but it rolls super super easy. I would not get it to bring up and down stairs though.

Don't regret it at all :)

Going to kill the a/c and heat up the entire basement along with the floor above...
I'd recommend this, you can pull in outside air and return the heated air back outside

Dual hose heatpump if you're an apartment dweller.

Or get a cheapass $120 5,000 BTU window unit if you want to DIY some mounting solution since no window on earth supports them nowadays
