This is exactly what happens in World War Z with people who worked with computers, film, television, or just media in general. All the skilled laborers were now their leaders because they could provide and teach the essential skills to grow food, build shelters, hunt, and make weapons and tools. Something catastrophic like that can really turn the whole system around.
I don't know how this subreddit feels about zombies, but I highly recommend picking up a copy of World War Z.
Here is a mash of books off the top of my head.
The Hunger Games
Surely you're Joking, Mr. Feynman!
Me Talk Pretty One Day
World War Z
The Road
Infinite Jest
A few fiction suggestions -
George R.R. Martin - Game of Thrones
Philip K. Dick - Do Android Dream of Electric Sheep
Frank Herbert - Dune
Max Brooks - World War Z
As for non-fiction-
Confessions of a Yakuza
Hunter S. Thompson - Hell's Angels

Read World War Z and get an idea of just how little modern military and ordinance are really ready for a post-apocalyptic zombie infestation.
