I made this guide because the selection for bags that actually fit the HTC Vive well are either poorly constructed, overpriced, or both. The only case actually intended for the Vive I could find was this overpriced monstrocity, and this, even more overpriced, even larger monstrocity. So I did some digging, tried out a few things, and made this guide.

That happens extremely often with the 2nd gen Xbox One controller and the Xbox One Elite controller. They were both released with an awful and fragile bumper design. I would know because I went through 3 sets of bumpers on my Xbox One 2nd gen controller.

The gen 3 controller that comes with the Xbox One S have much better bumpers. https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Controller-Black/dp/B01LPZM7VI/

Nah, you lose much more. This packaging loses the Xbone controller($39), Wireless Xbone Adapter ($20) (and USB extender), Oculus remote($29), and Rockband adapter($10?) while still at same price of $399. Maybe I'm just petty at getting extra goodies, but I'm glad I lucked out and got one of the original packages last week.

That's fair and understandable, but real customer data matters a lot more than impressions or reviews. It has 73% positive (out 7,800 reviews) on Steam and 4/5 stars (out of 2,700 reviews) on Amazon, the latter of which is almost identical to the Amazon review stats for the black Xbone controller and not far from the white one either. This suggests it's liked by the majority of people who decide to buy it, because unlike most "professional" games journalists, the people buying it are actual gamers who use it for more than a few hours.

The purpose of the controller's existence is to bring KBM games to the couch / living room. So after taking into account the generally positive feedback from users, the simplest explanation for why it hasn't been more commercially successful is that many PC gamers — I would guess the overwhelming majority — still play at their desks. Now some games absolutely require a controller regardless of whether you're at a desk or couch, but the nature of those games is such that they are already well-optimized for the Xbox controller, so buying a second controller has no value proposition for these cases.

Oculus Quest Travel Case
Xbox One S Controller

Google Chromecast
Anker PowerCore 26800 Battery
Mamut Touch Grip
WIDMOvr Plano Lens Adapter

6ft Right Angle USB-C to USB Cable

The WIDMOvr lenses are not prescription lenses. The plano version are just protectors so the lenses on the Quest do not get scratched. I purchased the Mamut Touch Grip after finding out they fit the Quest. I had previously wanted them for my Rift but just forgot about them until a few days ago.

Just thought I'd point out that the newer Xbox One controllers work directly over bluetooth and don't need a special adapter to work (as long as your PC has bluetooth functionality). It's actually a very easy pairing process (takes 15s or less) and works brilliantly although it can chew through batteries fairly quickly (you can always use a long micro USB cable if you want to use it wired of course).

Great to hear you really enjoy "Overflight", as I have high hopes for that one myself!

I just ordered this "XBOX Wireless Controller" from Amazon.

I searched for the XBOX One S wireless controller, but this is what kept coming up.

Would the one I just ordered work too, or should I cancel the order? Thanks!

u/lordderplythethird · 4 pointsr/chromeos

I have a bluetooth one (this one) and it doesn't work with either of my Samsung Chromebook 3 or my HP X360 14. It works just fine on my PC and my phone though. My wired 360 controller works on both of my chromebooks.

It pairs, but then it just keeps flashing and pairs and depairs non stop, and if I use a USB cable to wire the wireless controller, and it does the same as well.

u/queefin_it_real · 3 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

I'd keep an eye on Amazon. From camelcamelcamel, it looks like it frequently goes down to $44. You can also pricematch at Best Buy, since official products like this usually have the same sku.

Xbox One and DS4 controllers are both available for $45 at my local Costco. They regularly go on sale on various websites for $39.99.

Edit: both are $46 at Amazon. Yes, not exactly half the price, but not too far off. My point still stands, a lot more hardware crammed inside for less cost.

If you already have the PlayStation controller try it out. You can get an XB1 controller and it will work, only $40 on Amazon sale. https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Controller-Black-one/dp/B01LPZM7VI/

Clip for XB1 controller https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/Power-A-MOGA-Mobile-Gaming-Clip-for-Xbox/8RTF503L2PL9 or you can find a generic one on Amazon.

Any properly working controller will work with all emulators. As far as the GTA Android ports, I have no idea since I don't have experience with them specifically. For the phone I also can't say what exactly it will be capable of emulating such as more demanding things like GameCube and 3DS, but Snapdragon phones are known to be better for emulation.

Here is a list of good emulators. https://appagg.com/lists/8802/?hl=en

You can use Retroarch for many things like SNES and GBA or use stand alone emulators. Some emulators like N64, PSP, and DS, the stand alone option is best.

u/lumpiestspoon3 · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

The Xbox One S controller goes for $40, and it's bluetooth, so it doesn't need a dongle. The dualshock 4 is $44, but it also needs a $24 wireless adapter if you want to use it on PC.

Evecase 5.6 x 5.6 x 3.5 inch Camera Bag.
Chose this after trying too long to find a 3DS bag that didn't have horrible straps. $16 with Prime

Anker USB 3.0 4* USB tap.
Obviously, you need to have more than 1 USB port to do much, like using a mouse with a usb drive.
$9 with Prime.

Cable Matters Mini HDMI male to HDMI Female cable 2 pack.
Minor shaving required. Not tested extensively.
$10 with Prime.

Lexar USB 3.0 Micro SD Card Reader
If you want to use a ferry card or temporarily pop your card of choice into a computer, one of these is incredibly helpful. Plus it's tiny. You can probably get one cheaper if you don't want the 32GB card included.
$33 with Prime.

Standard XBOne Controller.
Works without any need to mess with dongles on Windows 10. It'll even work with headphones/sets.
$35-$50ish, depending on color and luck.

Venom Xbox One Rechargeable Battery Twin Pack.
I don't recommend these in particular, but a rechargeable pack is a must if you don't want to guzzle batteries.
$17 with Prime.

Logitech Wireless Mouse M185.
Pretty reliable, but only has the standard 2 mouse buttons plus tilting and clicking mousewheel. Receiver stores inside nicely.
$13 with Prime.

Kid Icarus Folding 3DS Stand That I Had In A Box.
Needs a little rubber bumper to help secure the Win properly.
$10 with Prime.

Perrix Asymetrical Folding Keyboard.
This one might be tough to find, but it works amazingly. The weird fold system pushes the main hinge off to the side, so it is less likely to fold the moment you put it on your lap. It also completely hides the hinge when the keyboard is unfolded. A bit cramped, but the keys are properly clicky laptop keys.
For image and model reference

Anker PowerCore 26800 Portable Charger*
While looking for my power pack, I found this one. Seems to be a flat upgrade. 26800mAh with 3
4.8A output USB ports. Also has 2 micro usb inputs for double the charge speed?
$59.99 with Prime.

Other possible pack-ins.

Bluetooth Numpads.
If you're primarily going to be gaming, you might want to drop the full keyboard in favor of a bit of space plus one of these. Works nicely with a mouse if you rebind with HIDMacros. Also more tiny airport/college desk friendly. Example unit is $30

Similarly, you might want to try a half controller + mouse option using a device like the
Nintendo Joy-Con's left unit. Drivers are still being worked on though, so only get this if you're up for beta troubles.
$50ish, but you can get lucky on eBay.

SanDisk Ultra Fit 128GB USB 3.0 flash drive.
The one in all the Win lists I've seen, but I figured I'd list it here for convenience.
$45 with Prime.

Batteries
All this stuff takes a total of 3 AAA (2 for the keyboard, 1 for the numpad) and 1 AA battery that will need replacing eventually. I hesitate to recommend rechargeable ones, as I have yet to find a micro charger for them.

Inateck USB 3.0 Ethernet + 3 USB 3.0 port adapter.
You might want to replace the 4 port one with one like this if you plan to do network maintenance, secure data transfer, or just plain download things quickly.

$20 with Prime.

PS4 Controller.
Some people prefer this to the XBOne one. It's lighter in the hand (and bag), comes with a built in rechargeable battery with absurd life, and has a touchpad with 4 physical buttons underneath. Can do some pretty crazy things with the touchpad via Steam's controller customization, but has weaker compatibility with non-Steam applications. Also works with PS4 Remote Play.
Worth noting that, unlike the ps3 controller, this can charge directly from any micro usb power supply. Headset support seems to require the official receiver dongle, sold separately.
Controller Alone: $40-60 Depending on color. Silver's cheapest.
Adapter Alone: $66
Controller + Adapter Bundle: $66

Budget 1 Handed Controller**
Hey, if you want to try 1/2 Controller + Mouse, why start off pricey?
$10

Phew, that's about all I have on hand.

If you can, get a pair of headphones and a separate microphone. They will blow any "premium gaming headset" out of the water. Gaming headsets are typically closed-back headsets, which limits your sound stage. You'll want a piar of open-back headphones. They also have to cram a lot more inside the headphones which typically results in something being of lower quality.

It seems you're on Xbox one, so you'll need one of the controllers with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

If you're on PS4, you can use the same items I have listed, and if you're on PC you don't need the splitter.

One of the best pair of headphones you can get is this one. The Audio Technica ATH M50x.

Then get an antilion modmic. It attaches right to your headphones with no hassle.

Then get this thing so you can use the headphones and microphone on your xbox one controller. (Yes, it works on Xbox One.)

All you have to do is plug your headphones and microphone into the splitter, and your splitter into your xbox one controller. Way better than a gaming headset, and way cheaper too.

You can even get better earpads for better comfort, if you want.

I bought this controller from amazon: Xbox Wireless controller

and I have trouble pairing with my PC. I have Win10 updated to latest. The problem, is when I turn on Bluetooth on my PC and have it search, it can't even find the controller at all. I've tried all the options when I add a bluetooth device. Nothing shows up.

An Xbox One controller with this clip or any clip like that

u/tactiphile · 2 pointsr/patientgamers

To elaborate a little...

1st gen only had a proprietary port and required either a proprietary headset or an adapter.

2nd gen added a standard 3.5mm headset jack next to the port.

3rd gen changed the design a little, with more of a gradual transition to the logo area, and added bluetooth, so you can now connect to Steam Link, or a non-Windows-10 PC.

Newest (headset + bluetooth) version is currently $40 on Amazon! (That's probably the lowest you'll see)

u/RangerTech · 2 pointsr/Egypt

The bigger question is will it work with Linux, this is Microsoft we are talking about. I would rather go Bluetooth if possible so i do not have to add yet another dongle hanging out the back of the PC and i'm also already seeing interference on the 2.4 GHz band on my fiance's PC with the mouse and keyboard. I fear adding more signals on an already crowded band would not be the best option but not out of the question if Bluetooth is not an option.

Sorry for the long post, but the original text post I made got deleted by the automoderator and I was told to post this here. I'm looking for a controller for PC gaming. I would prefer for it to have both wired and wireless capabilities (since I sometimes game on a monitor and other times on a big TV, and in the former scenario I'd prefer the minimal input lag of hard wiring, while in the latter case I'd prefer to sit further away and not deal with the hassle of another long wire), but neither of these is a must. Either/or is fine if necessary. Problem is, though, that I'm extremely picky about my controllers. Here's all the shit I want, in descending order of importance:

So I hope this helps, I went through 2 controllers, one time the RB broke and the second time the LB broke. I'm able to temporarily fix them with super glue, but it will always break again.

Turns out the 2nd Gen controllers have really bad bumper design. Idk about your elite controllers though. The 3rd Gen has much better design, the one that comes with the One S, and you can order them here.

You can tell the generation by the faceplate next to the Xbox button, which is now all one piece rather than separated.

I got one and it feels much better. We'll see how it holds up, I use RB for air roll in rocket league and many actions in rainbow six, as well as minecraft and other games.

Is there much difference between the DS4 controller and XBOX1 controller? I've never had either, is it Just about preference? Same price on Amazon

Can't you just get the Wireless one for cheaper?https://www.amazon.ca/Xbox-One-Wireless-Controller-Black/dp/B01LPZM7VI/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Microsoft+XBOX+One+controller&qid=1557435273&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Unless you prefer wired.

Also I'd recommend getting the Keepa extension, easy way to see the price history of everything on Amazon as you browse.

According to it, that $53 is actually a markup from the usual $49.

I recommend a first-party Xbox One controller. They are all proprietary wireless but they all connect to a PC via any old USB to micro USB cable (no batteries needed) and are natively supported by the OS without any hassle of drivers. They are also very well made and good controllers (i.e. don't cheap out on an aftermarket). 360 ones also work but I always had driver issues with my 360 controllers and they aren't as nice IMO.

If you are going to be exclusively using it as an Xbox controller, I'd recommend just picking up a regular Xbox controller, as it's much easier and has proper triggers. The Xbox Wireless Controller also now has Bluetooth so you don't need dongles.

The FC/NES30 Pro is only really useful as a portable controller for your phone and for retro games.

I found that checking Amazon every couple of days eventually lead to sales. I picked up the minecraft pig controller for $48.

edit: $46.99 for a black one on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Controller-Black-one/dp/B01LPZM7VI

Fair enough. To answer your original question, the S8+ is technically compatible with the 2016 Gear VR but there are some slight fitment issues. The general consensus is that the 1027 2017 version fits and works better, so make sure you can find the model number of the Gear VR and that it matches the 2017 version.

Regarding cellular vs. non-cellular, I use a 2016 version with a carrier-locked Galaxy S7 edge that has the SIM pulled and it only uses WIFI. It works fine. I can't speak to the specific demo model you're talking about as I haven't used it, but it sounds like it should work. If the only difference is that the cellular radio doesn't work, but all other functionality (including Bluetooth and WIFI and the Oculus software) works, you should be fine.

Note that Bluetooth and WIFI being functional will be important. WIFI for downloads and Bluetooth for the remote and for controllers. It's possible that one or both of these will also have been disabled in the demo, so I'd confirm with the seller that both work before proceeding. That said, I've seen store demos that had functional Bluetooth and I'm not sure if it's a separate radio or not. I think it is, because I can put my phone into Airplane mode (disables all radios) and then enable Bluetooth and WIFI while Airplane Mode is still active.
However, given that we're in different markets, I'd still ask the seller first.

For controllers, I recommend the Steelseries Stratus XL or, even better, an Xbox 360 wireless controller. Note that the current version of the Xbox Elite Controller is not bluetooth (uses a dongle) so will not work with Android, so stick with the non-Elite for now. There's supposedly a new version of the Elite controller about to be released that uses Bluetooth instead, but I haven't seen any confirmation on release date as yet.

Good luck!

Edit: typo.

It was my right stick that messed up too. You can buy a cheaper brand xbox controller with a cord for like $25, and I've used one. It wasn't the worst experience of my life. The LB/RB buttons were raised which took some getting used to, but it will do in a pinch.

This is the one on Amazon that I got . I'm going to assume you don't have or don't want to spend the money on a new controller, which I totally understand. If you're in the U.S. and have had it less than a year Microsoft would have had to fix it, but of course taking it apart voided that. They just make shit quality controllers.

If you have an xbox 360 controller and a windows 10 (maybe 8 will work too?) computer, you can use it to play xbox one games via streaming. You hook the 360 controller up to the computer, open the xbox app, choose streaming, and now you are using your computer to control the xbox one. I have to imagine there would be more lag than worth doing end-game dungeons, but you can give it a shot and see.

First one is standard controller, second link is the "elite" controller. You pick. Either one will work.

u/BradBramish · 1 pointr/buildapc

There's not a substantial difference. The xbox one controller has better ergonomics, a flush battery compartment, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The biggest difference is how you connect to your PC: bluetooth, wireless adapter, or USB cable.

u/lumpy_brewster · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm looking to pick up a controller to use with my new PC build. I have this wireless/bluetooth card and I'm wondering if this XBone controller will work directly with that bluetooth card without any need for an additional adapter.

Also, should I just stick with using batteries or should I get the plug & play kit for it?

u/tman2damax11 · 1 pointr/xboxone

Actually don't buy that. It comes with the old style controller , it's actually cheaper to buy one of the new S style controller (better bumpers, bluetooth, headphone jack, and textured grip) and the play and charge kit separately, here's the links for those:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LPZM7VI/

Requires Windows 10 to rebind the keys on the controller. I use an Elite controller, but it is suppose to be possible on the base controller as well. Or any PC controller that stores the keybinding in the firmware on the controller should work with the adapter in the first link.

>Sorry man not buying it.

How about researching it a little and seeing that it has a good 3.8 out of 5 stars on Amazon. That is including people that are far more likely to review negatively than positively....

It's not like you are going to find, oh my controller is working great posts on this sub. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I'm not a scientist or anything, but 87-50=37. Would you say that 37 is "closer to 30" than 50, or no?

u/Jimbuscus · 0 pointsr/PS4

You glanced past the inclusion of replacing my DS4 & upgrading my PS4's HDD

Which totals at around A$760 in my country, which was around $650 USD at the time, I also only use a cheapo $15 Mouse/keyboard combo and the same TV my PS4 is connected to

----

Edit: Keeping under your $500 proposal, I have put together a PS4 comparable gaming PC, with keboard/mouse, wifi/bluetooth, a 1tb HDD as well as a 60GB SSD for the OS, an Xbox One S controller that will connect wirelessly to the bluetooth.

All new with most parts not being the cheapest possible but reasonable like the EVGA PSU with 80+ certified & the GPU having 4GB VRAM instead of 2GB

$48 and $49 respectively. I also verified they aren't sale prices. In fact the Xbox is actually on sale for $46 instead of it's standard $49. Your other points stands and are valid, but don't throw out fake numbers. Walmart, Target, and Best Buy all charge in the $50-$55 range as well.
