Here's the LED strip, but pretty much any RGB LED strip will work.
The bulb on the other side of the room is a Lifx which is a kickstarted alternate to the Phillips Hue system. I'd recommend getting a Hue over a Lifx though - the lifx app is way under developed and still doesn't have some of the features promised in the kickstarter

I use this inside my case. It comes with mounting hardware making it really easy to route however you want. It also has 3 brightness levels and an on/off switch.
For backlighting behind my monitors/desk, I use something like this. I typically only use a single color, but I opted for a version with color changing LEDs. The adhesive on these things sucks, so if you purchase one, I suggest getting some of these and some zipties to mount it.

A meter, or so, of lights, and a power-supply. You can mount them under shelves, and they are as simple as you can imagine. You get the choice of ones which allow you to change the colours, or not.
Maybe £15 all together.
