Outside of using a mono earbud like this or this, I don't really think you'd be able to listen to music through Spotify in just one ear.
Is your issue with the second earphone being useless to you? Or with the fact you haven't worked out how to set your audio settings on whatever device to mono? If you're doing that, you may be interested in an earbud I've been using for a few years. It's a single earbud, but it's wired up to mix both left and right into the one bud.
