Not a skier, but when I was up against this decision my sis loaned me her Western Mountaineering down vest to try, and it worked great but way out of my price range. I ended up getting this as a cheap place holder and it’s become part of my sleep system/morning warm-up/evening cool-down. Cheap enough to experiment with, just under 5oz on my scale.
I layer merino base, grid fleece hoodie and 1/4 zip wind shirt for temps down to high 30s, then throw the vest and frogg toggs on for colder than that.
