I take some BCAA's before and after my WOD if I work out in a fasted state.

Couldn't you take something like this to help maintain balance?

I suggest taking a carb free pre-workout. The 2 I have found successful are your basic flavored ammino acids mix and the Cannibal FEROX (Watermelon Warmachine)

Both have helped give me enough gas to really push through a workout.

  • Looking to buy a pre-workout BCAA to take before I work out on an empty stomach. I am looking at Xtend. Is this good? Anything better? Any suggestions?
  • I read somewhere that taking Calcium and Vitamin D supplements will assist in muscle growth / slow muscle loss if cutting, is there any truth to this?
  • Follow up question, when people refer to Vitamin D, is that D3 or just plain ole Vitamin D?

If you're working out in a fasted state, try:

https://www.amazon.com/Scivation-Xtend-BCAAs-Watermelon-Servings/dp/B005CH0DT4

Additionally take a look at:

If you haven't already.

This could be multiple things. The first thing that comes to mind is low blood sugar. Eating a preworkout meal may help you power through this. Also, I suggest Xtend for helping with endurance during your workout. It makes me feel more energized and able to push out an extra rep or two.

I grabbed these and have enjoyed them. Don't get just a tub of BCAA powder because it tastes like death. Get it flavored.

Drinking a BCAA drink before my work and also on off days has helped me tremendously. I recover from my workouts much quicker and don't tire as easily. It contains amino acids to help your muscles recover/rebuild and also contains electrolytes to replenish the ones that you lost during your workout. This is the drink I use. I highly recommend it.

I use SciVation Xtend mixed in my water. BCAAs+electolytes, helps loads and is sugar-free

With leangains method, one of the most famous IF technique, you need to have around 16 hrs of fasting from dinner to next-day lunch. I was following this for many months about 2 years back. I also did moderate exercise in the morning which meant that just black coffee was not enough to sustain until lunch. If you don't do any significant exercise in the morning then just black coffee should suffice.

Martin Berkhan's old suggestion for BCAA supplement was http://www.amazon.com/Scivation-Intra-Workout-Catalyst-Watermelon-Servings/dp/B005CH0DT4/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1407388537&sr=8-10&keywords=BCAA. Note that consuming anything above 50 calories is considered as breaking the fast. So don't use more than 12 grams (~48 calories) of BCAA protein in the morning.

Note that the taste is sweet and pleasant but that is due to the sucralose, which in paleo falls under bad artificial sweeteners. But that product is relatively cheap and provides quality BCAA, so best bang for the buck. I stopped using the product once I stopped IF.

Trying butter coffee or MCT oil coffee in the morning will break the fast since you get more calories from fat.

Throwing my vote in with you, sounds like ketosis. Zombie should check his carb intake, and consider BCAA's pre-workout
