I wouldn't say most people, because you have to buy them separate from the Zippo lighter. Just people who don't feel like filling it up about once a week. I've heard great things about the inserts though. This is a popular one.

If you have a zippo, you can get a butane torch insert. I have this one ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JXF7KW4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_jWuBzbM7T7ZED ) but there are other brands as well on Amazon.
It has served me very well, lasted about a year so far. I fill it up maybe once every week or week and a half with fairly regular use. The flame isn't the biggest or the hottest, but I really love mine.
