It seems like you could just buy this: Zojirushi Zutto automated drip-over coffee machine.

It basically makes 4-5 cups of pour over style coffee (uses Melitta #2 filters) using a diffused drip method.

I make hand pour-over coffees at home, but have switched to using the Zutto when I want a faster cup.

No moving parts and very easy to clean. Since the coffee is made in the filter, you just toss the filter and rinse the decanter. The actual machine basically just boils water and drips it into the filter, so it never needs cleaning.

This KS seems like a more complicated version of the Zutto. Sure it's pour-over rather than diffused drip, but the rotating part makes me nervous.

I am looking at getting something like this as well... just to switch it up... but I've never tried drip coffee. Any words of advice?

I'm a huge coffee snob, but in college I just used a small automatic drip and a blade grinder. Once I had an apartment, I had my real machines and french presses set up, but with the small space in a dorm, you can't beat the self-contained system. Use some locally fresh-roasted beans and it shouldn't be bad at all. At least in my undergrad, after being up to 3:30 a.m. doing some combination of studying/working/drinking/hitting on girls, I didn't care if my coffee wasn't perfect at 8 a.m.

Here's a 5 cup Zojirushi, would be nice and space efficient, and I like their appliances. Or just go to the drugstore and get whatever $15 one they have in their "random cheap ass appliance" section.

Zojirushi Zutto is a compact drip machine. When I use mine, it's usually for anywhere from 12 to 18 ounces.
