When my niece was born, the first of the grandchildren, I made it a point that once a month I sent my sister and BIL an "inappropriate" kids book. This was on the list, although my favorite is "K is for Knifeball", as even I thought this one went a little too far.

So other suggestions for you:

Our tooth fairy once missed a night because of a bad snow storm where she lives. Fairies can’t fly in blizzard conditions; their wings get too icy. Another time it was the day before Easter and the TF decided to wait a day and catch a ride with the Easter Bunny because she was trying to reduce her carbon footprint. Toothiana is very concerned about climate change given her sensitivity to inclement weather. Another night, she actually came, but my son’s room was SO MESSY that she couldn’t even find her way to his pillow. Fairies are very small and can get hurt easily in hazardous areas! But she left a note and came back as soon as he’d cleaned his room (this was the time that I didn’t forget, I just didn’t have any cash smaller than a $20 and I’m not about to set that precedent!!!)

If you haven’t read the Guardians series of books to your kids, you should. They’re written by William Joyce and the writing is exciting and superb. The stories never betray the ‘magic’ of the childhood guardians and each book explains the backstory of a different Guardian. Santa was Nicholas St. North, Toothiana (the TF) is actually thousands of TINY fairies. E. Aster Bunnymund is the Easter Bunny. He’s actually a Pookah, not a rabbit, and he tunnels! And of course the Sandman and The Man in The Moon, etc. The Guardians watch over and protect the children of Earth from Pitch, The Nightmare King.

Joyce also writes beautiful picture books for younger kiddos, and The Guardians movie is based on his characters and illustrations, but the books are so much better. I love that they give my kids an explanation for their fairytale heroes that keeps the magic alive for a little while longer.

Hell, here’s a link to book 1:

There’s one with a ‘Wide Mouth Frog’ and at the end he meets an alligator who eats wide mouth frogs and he says “ooo you don’t see many of those around, do you?” with pursed lips ... it might just be called the The Wide Mouth Frog, is it that one?

Edit: this one:

"Gaston goes to Mardi Gras".

The lead character "Gaston" is an alligator, and there's a whole series of Gaston books, including my favorite "Gaston Drills an Offshore Oil Well".

I still remember this book.

One of my favorite books ever is Where's Wallace by Hilary Knight.

Wonderful story, stunning illustrations, and not only do you have to find Wallace but there are also a handful of other characters that appear on every page.

There are some really beautiful pop up books. I know they're delicate and not meant for two year olds, but my daughter loved this one at around the same age. We kept it higher up on the bookshelf, out of her reach, and reading it was really special because she had to be calm and still and very gentle with the pages while we read it to her, then it went right back up on the shelf. She's almost seven now and it's still in really good condition. I think pop up books are great gifts.

Edit: This one looks good too. It's not as elaborate as the Maurice Sendak one I linked too, but I think it's made for younger kids. Amazon appears to have a "pop up books for toddlers" category.

Reminds me of one of my favorite children's books, Bill and Pete

I have always felt that this book was a rip off of the 1964 children's book, "where's Wallace" written and illustrated by Hillary Knight.

Hope I didn't break the meta.

At the rate I buy add on stuff to my regular copy of FFXV. It'll soon turn into a collectors edition just bought in separate pieces.

Is the kids book “I’d Really Like To Eat A Child,” about an alligator that’s tired of eating bananas, wants to eat a kids but ends up getting his tummy rubbed by a little girl, the most brutally honest kids book title ever or a real life fatal accident waiting to happen?
