Isn't the Model S freakin amazing! It's smooth and beautifully designed.

This type of attack is being reported in the news over and over again - it's very much a problem and even happened to my cousin. When I saw it I got a fob faraday bag. OP posted the bag for $20 on Amazon but in my opinion that bag is NOT worth it. It's far too small to hold my entire key set and it failed on me after a month of use - very disappointing.

I got another bag on Amazon and it has worked like a charm. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01H1C21O2 It's a little more expensive but if im going to buy one of these bags I want it to actually work. It's been two months and this bag is working strong. It gives me peace of mind.

Actually it's pretty ridiculous we need to buy these things I feel like the car manufacturer should find a way to stop this. Anyway I'll report back later if the bag has any issues.

Update: Yes as a few people mentioned this is the mission darkness keyfob bag.

I use this one ^^

I can put my fob inside, close it, stand directly next to the car door with the bag, and the door will not open.

Buy a Faraday bag, if you're that concerned.

u/2close2see · 7 pointsr/chicago

Not sure, but I'm now tempted to buy one of these, keep it in the cupholder and hand it to whoever tries to carjack me, then bail.

Was just reading a post on /r/Mazda3 about this concept - using some sort of relay attack (I have no clue about the technical term/process here), where folks can relay and/or clone your fob.

Suggestion was to store your key in a Faraday bag to prevent your key from transmitting a signal that can be picked up outside your house.

So, maybe something to look into?

maybe make a custom case that acts as a faraday cage, blocking all signals?

here's a wallet that can also house your phone

u/Sinister_Slime · 3 pointsr/subaru

Looks great but I have in issue with scratching it and I ended up getting this.

u/Trailman80 · 3 pointsr/mazda3

They are called Signal boosters if you are in an area that has High crime get a Faraday case.

Amazon has them I bought these.

If you remove the door cylinder and ignition cylinder and take them to a good, old fashioned locksmith they can probably remove the broken keys and decode them for you. Then make you new ones.

My old keys wore out and I had this done. I got a nice Toyota blank from Amazon but you don't need to do that if you don't want to.

I just got one of these and it blocks active signals as well:

I use RAM Mount hardware for my phone and camera, When I'm not riding the bike it's easy to remove the attachments and leave the bases in place. They also sell locks you can put on the knobs to keep people from operating them.

I'd recommend some saddlebags for shopping, It's no fun wearing a heavy backpack while riding, You can get inexpensive saddle bags that are for large dogs off amazon for pretty cheap

Alarms with pagers are not that expensive actually!
https://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-Automotive-9100-Motorcycle-Paging/dp/B00J3QM4OC/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1485296833&sr=8-1&keywords=gorilla+alarm+with+pager

I'd recommend always locking your bike to a large immovable object, 50cc bikes are small and light and easy to pick up and toss in a van or truck if they are untethered.

I have never had my bike messed with or moved in a parking lot, I always make sure to park near the back of the space so drivers see my bike, If I'm shopping and the store has a cart corral that doesn't take up a full spot I'll park my bike in those spots with the carts.

Oh for pants if you can't afford motorcycle specific ones I'd go for a set of 'Firehose' pants, they are more durable than denim.
http://women.duluthtrading.com/store/womens/work-clothes/wm-fire-hose/work-clothes-fh.aspx

There was a guy who used to ride with my club that was handicapped and had a handicapped plate on his scooter, he always parked in the reserved spots and never had a problem doing so.

u/seatrip · 2 pointsr/Hookers

Get one of these and put your phone in it. Works like a charm.

u/vapeducator · 2 pointsr/scooters

I have some of these thick steel cable locks. You can hook them together as long as you wish, but 2 will usually work fine for a scooter. Maybe there's something similar in the BENELUX area.

I have purchased motorcycle alarms with 2-way remote like this one. The alarm notifies you on the pager with the sensor that was triggered.

I've also purchased GPS trackers like this one. It uses a GSM sim card to notify you by text message if the tracker has left an area that you define. It can also text you if it travels faster than a defined speed. It doesn't only rely on GPS for tracking. It also uses GSM/GRPS to triangulate a position and give you an actual street address. You can call or text the device to engage constant tracking with updates every few seconds or minutes.

One of my scooters has a remote start with engine kill.

There are also alarms like this one that have a proximity sensor that triggers an audible warning if anyone approaches the scooter, besides sending notification to the remote control pager. I haven't purchased this one.

>What are some ways of preventing theft of the scooter? Does it involve some specialty lock or perhaps being specific about where I park?

I have a [Gorilla Alarm] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J3QM4SS/ref=twister_B00WGCGQWQ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) on my scoot but sometimes it goes off unexpectedly and it drains the battery quick if you don't ride your scooter often.

I use to use a U-Lock to attach to my wheel but I've almost rode off a couple of times with it still attached so I hardly use it.

You can get one of [disc brake locks] (https://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-8303DPS-Disc-Brake/dp/B0009V1WR0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469235803&sr=8-1&keywords=disc+brake+lock) that attaches to your front brake disc and comes with a reminder strap that you attach to the handlebars so you don't ride off with it still attached.

But I highly suggest getting full coverage insurance if you don't have it already in case the scooter does get stolen. Scooters are so light that 2 people could lift it onto the back of a truck and take off. The money you get back from full coverage insurance is surprisingly fair, at least with State Farm.

>I live in Houston. The sun is pretty intense and I love the paint job on my scooter. Is there a way to protect the paint with products or is a simple scooter cover the solution?

This is a great question because if you don't protect the body, it will start fading on you.

You can either use a [paste wax] (https://www.amazon.com/Mothers-05500-California-Brazilian-Carnauba/dp/B0002U1TVW/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1469236135&sr=1-1&keywords=mother%27s+wax) or [liquid wax] (https://www.amazon.com/Mothers-05750-California-Brazilian-Carnauba/dp/B0002U1TX0/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1469236135&sr=1-2&keywords=mother%27s+wax) to give you the best protection. Remember to follow the instructions that come with the wax.

You can use a [spray wax] (https://www.amazon.com/Mothers-05724-California-Gold-Spray/dp/B001MXX5D8/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1469236261&sr=1-1&keywords=mother%27s+spray+wax) which is the easiest to apply and remove but it doesn't offer the same kind of protection that a paste or liquid wax gives.

Btw, I only used Mother's as an example but most of the brands that you find at your local auto parts store should be fine. Also, make sure to always use a Microfiber towel when doing anything on the scooter's body. Microfiber towels scratch the body the least vs. any other kind of towel.

If you end up getting the EX-L here's how I accessorized:

Scuff plates - I liked the scuff plates in the Touring (which are backlit) so I bought these. Not backlit but look great, really look like a first-party install.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BSQDQH5/

bumper protector - looks sharp and happens to have a similar hexagon pattern to the scuff plates so they look good as a set

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079P88CPT/

fob case - pink for the wife, black for me - the ex-l has seat memory based on the fob you are using, so makes it easy to tell them apart

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DBXC134/

console liners - these are great! cover up every single cupholder and surface in the car

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078MRYNXQ/

screen protector - the screen is so big on the cr-v i think a cover is mandatory

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CVYHZV9/

I also got a custom windshield cover, the side trim, and the splashguards from handa accessories and self-installed them, happy with all of them.

line a cardboard box with thick aluminum foil. that is a very basic faraday cage.

personally i have a cheap faraday bag i got off amazon. there have been a couple people in my neighborhood that have gotten their cars stolen via repeater spoofing. didnt want MY brand new car to go the same route.

I tried the resistor method and it acts just the same; no crank. Do I need something like this product to fully bypass the system? https://www.amazon.com/Directed-Electronics-DB3-Override-Module/dp/B01MU9QULP/ref=dp_ob_title_wld

u/cybereality · 1 pointr/security

If you search "Faraday Bag" on Amazon, there are tons of options. I have used the EDEC one for my car key fob ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M9GLNYI/ ) and the Wisdompro for larger items ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HETGX00/ ). I have tested these in my car and with a cell phone, they do what they say.

There's also a genuine OEM Mazda key blank you can get on Amazon, but not sure if they ship that item to Canada. I bought one for my first NA and in fact have a blank one sitting here that I'm getting cut today for my '95. There's something nice about having a "real" key. It has the later logo on it, but fits your '91.

Edit: comes from Avondale Mazda in Arizona.

Looks like a self defense key ring type spike you can get all defferent types.. they also go by another name but I cant remember the word.

Edit: another example

The padlock would definitely stop your scooter from rolling but one day, you might forget it's on there and try to take off which would cause some damage.

They sell [disc brake locks] (http://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-8303DPS-Disc-Brake/dp/B0009V1WR0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1427514154&sr=8-2&keywords=disc+brake+lock) that come with a coiled strap that you attach to your handlebars after attaching the lock to your disc. The strap is a reminder that you have the disc brake attached before you try and take off.

I just got and installed one of [these] (http://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-9000-Motorcycle-Remote-Transmitter/dp/B00J3QM4SS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427513872&sr=8-1&keywords=gorilla+alarm)

Although it's just an alarm without an ignition kill, it is pretty loud and it only took me about an hour to install.

This alarm also has the option of adding a 2-way remote which supposedly works for up to a 1/2 mile away and it notifies you if your alarm is going off.

I highly recommend this alarm if you could spare $100 bucks.

u/baljeeter · 0 pointsr/cybersecurity

I'd recommend getting a Faraday bag and keeping the phone in it the whole time you are there.

You can find them pretty cheap on Amazon: link

That key fob chain is just about the stupidest design they could have come up with...
