Okay I'll just tell you everything I know about what I think might apply.

My mentor told me that archery is 80% knowledge 20% skill. For example if your arrow is veering right, the typical response is to simply move your sight to the right. Yes that works but knowledge of the sport tells you that there's half a dozen reasons why that could happen. It's about knowing the permanent solution rather than the easy fix. When comp shooting this is vital as anything goes wrong you don't know the precise sight movement with the shoddy limb alignment and uncalibrated pressure button.

So put bluntly barebow is fine if you want to shoot casually. And bare in mind I'm not telling you your buisness, you know way more about your situation than I ever can. The important thing is that you enjoy yourself, anyone who tells you that their way is the one true archery is a pretentious snob who shouldn't be a part of the wider community.

Archery is the one true archery, nothing else.

Now back to the point. Ive never heard in competition of someone starting with barebow. It's nearly exclusively recurve shooters going native. (Or as basic as you can go when the riser is made out of magnesium and the limbs are laminated) So Olympic recurve gives you a good base to jump your archery career, if that's the way you want to go.

Down to the equipment side of things. Nobody wants to break the bank and being an extremely poor student I've cobbled together second hand bits and pieces and buying the absolutely cheapest.

This is the order I bought my stuff in from the basic limbs, sight, riser and string

Stabiliser 30" long rod

Cheap enough helps balance the bow

Finger sling. Basically you wrap your thumb and index or middle finger around the riser. When you shoot an arrow you allow the riser to fall completely from your hand. It takes practice and faith, it's difficult to essentially drop your bow.

Clicker.

This is not compatible with the extension plate but I much prefer this one. It is screwed underneath a sight block and dangles a metal rod down past the arrow. To use you simply slide the arrow so it's on the opposite side of the arrow. As the arrow slides past the magnet snaps the arm back to the plate making the click. I like it because if I want to not shoot with a clicker i dont need to remove the entire thing. Also much easier to adjust and do t need to worry about the extension plate nonsense

A set of 12 second hand carbon fiber aluminium core arrows

Bought tbese second hand at a bring and buy sale. Look for them in your area they're great fun usually. When looking for new arrows look on a chart for the spine to your draw distance and poundage. Delamination is a painful and potentially deadly mistake. I saw a fella shooting after upping his pondage from 38 to 50. After a few hundred shots the arrow delaminated ripped a hole in his arm from elbow to wrist. Id recommend that when you get these you consult an expert.

Micro adjustable sight

Before this I had a very small training sight and the pin kept on falling off the rail. Not a must but makes life a little easier

If you have any other questions let me know or send me a DM. Happy shooting

Ditto to the paracord. Keep some in my pack and also have a paracord wrist sling like this one
