I did a k-suspension harness, hella h4 bulbs and rampage housings. love how much light they put out without looking obnoxiously bright like LED lights. At the very least you should do the harness. Makes a world of a difference.

HIKARI LED Headlight Bulbs Conversion Kit-H11(H8,H9), 2019 New Gen of HIKARI, Adjustable Beam, 9600lm 6K Cool White,2 Yr Warranty https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GKPR452/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_U6D6CbWPXP4X8

Get the H11. These are pretty cheap and still have a fan but it's a nice upgrade if you don't want to spend $50+ or don't have money for HIDs which is what I plan to do later on.

Vehicle lighting engineer chiming in!

>I have had good success with LED's in a few of my old cars with Halogens and the output has been exceptional so I decided to give the Spark an upgrade.I have had great success with the brand Hikari ( www.hikari-led.com ) on my previous cars, specifically the Spark EV needs the H13 base here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GKCNPD1/re ... DbQAR3C5V .

If they were so great what's up with the ~40% fake/shill review rate?

https://www.fakespot.com/product/hikari-led-headlight-bulbs-conversion-kit-h13-9008-9600lm-6k-cool-white-2-yr-warranty

>Now let me tell you why Hikari bulbs win: They have an ADJUSTABLE BASE in which the bulb can rotate inside the housing. I was literally able to plug everything up and spin the bulb while watching the pattern change on the garage door. Because of this I was able to fine tune the cutoff to match the stock bulbs.

Garage wall pics, especially ones at 3 to 10 feet away, are misleading (at best).

>Beam pattern is good. An even spread of light on the road.

There's nothing inherently good about an "even spread of light on the road." You want to maximize intensity at 0.6D, 1.3R, as this is your distance vision test point. Note that at many points, there are intensity thresholds.

>Field of light coverage is wider with the LEDs, they illuminate farther to the sides and lower in front of the car. Even though they use the same housing, I'm assuming the intensity and higher lumen count adds the extra range in each direction.

Foreground light ranges from useless to slightly detrimental to night vision.

>At almost any driving speed, however, any objects located in the visual foreground are too close to avoid with slowing or steering maneuvers. Further, published literature on the mechanisms for disability glare suggests that foreground illumination should have a negative impact in terms of the visibility of objects located well ahead in the visual field.

>Cutoff is soft. The light has a general fuzzy cutoff of light, the stock bulb might have even been sharper.- Lumen count is MUCH higher than OEM halogen. Reflective road lane paint and road signs lit up much brighter and farther out than halogens. this is probably my favorite benefit of LED.

Cooler temperature light has the effect of increasing apparent contrast, but has little to do with actual performance.

>Color temperature looks about 6000k, mostly pure white. This is a preference really, science proves 4300k is the perfect headlight color but suffice it to say these are much "whiter" than halogens.

Science does not prove this. The only people I know who say that a cooler CCT (coordinated color temperature) is better have been paid off by major automotive lighting companies in the early to mid-2000s, when the NHTSA was considering a blanket ban on tinted halogen bulbs, which are intended to create higher color temperature light.

Higher CCT actually contributes to discomfort glare as well.

>On the other hand several studies [2, 5, 8] have shown that the blue spectral content of a headlamp, although having no significant influence on disability glare, nevertheless increases discomfort glare for the opposing traffic.

>Should NEVER have to replace these. Any car I've had with halogens might go 1-3 years depending. I HATE when a bulb goes out at night and you're down to relying on a single headlamp. These LEDs should honestly last longer than I will keep this car.

The adjusted rating of 2.5 stars rating doesn't jive well with the idea that they will last indefinitely.

>Standing in front of the car I don't see any glare, and against the garage there is no light bleeding above the line of site to blind oncoming drivers.

Glare is light with intensities exceeding 700 and 1000 candela, respectively, at 1U, 1.5L-1L and 0.5U, 1.5L-1L. If you could so kindly draw a circle or box around this area in your pictures, at least I would know that you know where the glare zone is. Can you circle the glare zone?

>CAVEAT! (there had to be something right?) Since the housing is a single bulb design, I lost the high beams. Flicking them on I see the light does some kind of change but it is hardly different than the low beam pattern, certainly nothing like the OEM halogen high beam! But IMO the gain in low beam performance far outweighs the use of halogen high beams. YMMV.

Low-beams, even the best-designed ones, enable safe driving in the dark at speeds up to 45 MPH. Consider the Mercedes-Benz C300 with the lighting package.

https://i.imgur.com/mGvDwxU.png

Low beams give ~200 to 350 feet of visibility depending on which side of the road you're looking at. If a pedestrian steps out from the left side of the road, you have ~200 feet to stop. 40 MPH is 60 feet/second. Reaction time is 2 seconds. It takes you 120 feet just to put your foot on the brake pedal. Can you stop from 40 MPH (60 feet/second) in 80 feet? High-beams are critical, and no, not even the best low-beams are sufficient alone.

----

Tl;dr: this study says it all:

https://www.sae.org/publications/technical-papers/content/2019-01-0850/

>Several different LED replacement bulb kits, each designed to replace a conventional 55-W H11 halogen bulb, were purchased and tested in three different low-beam headlight units. Photometric measurements at several critical test points for headlight performance revealed that none of the resulting distributions met all of the test point photometric requirements.

9 LED bulbs were tested in 3 headlamps (2 reflectors, 1 projector) and all 27 LED bulb+headlamp combinations failed the most basic tests of glare and seeing distance. (They didn't even bother running more comprehensive tests).

  1. Ugh I hate the weather alerts. I read they are part of the Sirius XM free subscription and that you can't permanently disable them. They allegedly go away when your subscription lapses.

  2. Unsure.

  3. I had to play with adjustments on mine for a while, but yes I've sat in better seats. Nothing specific I can recommend unfortunately.

  4. I saw some people on the facebook volt owner's group talking about some LEDs you can install. I think these are the ones people were using (check the size, though): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H6NZ7D8

Just curious, what is everyone's beef with the stock headlights? I haven't noticed anything particular about them.

Nether out of the 5 LED headlights I’ve experimented with have an error code. The “BeamTech LED’s” are literally the cheapest durable LED bulbs you can buy which gives a decent beam pattern👇

I went with HIKARI LED Headlights from Amazon. They're very bright and no codes on my 14T. It's a very tight fit, but the plastic covers do go back on. The bulbs rotate so you can properly adjust them. They work for high and low beams.

If you want perfect high beam performance you'll need a specially designed housing for LEDs, and they don't come cheap. If you're fine with a bit brighter and whiter light, the Auxbeam LED Headlight Bulbs F-S2 series is good enough in my opinion. They were only $30 for a pair. The lamp only draws 36 W. You probably need the H4 sockets, as is standard on modern bikes.

I had to lower the vertical beam somewhat but in my layman's opinion they're better than halogen. The bright white light makes street signs easier to read at night but the high beam is shorter than with halogen. I've used it on multiple winter night rides in the past 3 months and won't go back to halogen.

This was a year ago and I’ve done a few upgrades since then. This is a write-up with some links for those interested in it. Hopefully this wall of info might be useful to someone looking to do what I’ve done. It is a headache and a half along with hours of time just trying to find straightforward info for modding these trucks.

Full specs: 2018 TRD ORP w/ KDSS. Bilstein 6112 2.4” lift (5/5 clip settings for KDSS) & 5160 rear shocks. Eibach ProLift rear springs 1”(note: the KDSS models sit about a .5”-1” lower up front in stock.) Super bump kit. OME rear Right 10mm trim packer for lean correction. 275/70/17 KO2 tires. Stock OR Rims. JBA high caster UCAs. Tyger Auto TG-AM2T20148 side steps (for the little wife, to mitigate the tires flinging rocks at the paint and they also help with parking lot door dings)

Lights: The LEDs are Nineo Gen2 for H11 and 9005. It was around $100 total from amazon. They are identical to the Supernova v.4. So if you’re thinking of those, save your money with these.

The DRLs do work fine, believe it or not, and the flicker when in DRL mode is BARELY noticeable and looks kinda cool imo, it’s $50 vs $180 for xenon depots, and I don’t think XDs are $130 better imo. They also do dim. I’ll post more pics and a video of the flicker later when I get the headlights adjusted. If you still can’t stand the flicker the XD LEDs with the DRL driver is the way to go or you can just shut off the DRL mode completely without messing with other lighting functions, this is also a warranty safe and non-permanent solution as you can just push the wire back in if you decide to change your mind. Rubbing, death wobble and suspension: The only rubbing I have is on the front mudflaps at full lock, might modify or just remove flaps completely. No rub on UCAs or body mount.

For grease I use Valvoline VV615, if you go JBA, I highly recommend this 90 degree grease adapter. No mess and super easy. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000G76OMA/

Or you could replace the straight zerk fittings with 45-90 degree zerk fittings.

The rear right OME trim packer that corrected the lean also fixed the steering wheel death wobble some may experience after a lift. So for this particular case I’ll attribute it to a suspension geometry problem. If you still experience the wobble after lean correction there is a bushing to replace the spider bearing in the front left differential, made by ECGS. it’s about $170 for the full install kit with a new cv axle seal. I highly recommend either of these if you’re are finding yourself getting your wheels balanced way more than you should be.

I bought these for my '17 EX

https://www.amazon.com/CougarMotor-Headlight-Bulbs-All-Conversion/dp/B01H6NZ7D8/

They are fantastic and work perfectly. Also got the T10 cabin lights as a combo purchase for less than a $1. Couldn't be happier with them. The beam pattern isn't to high that it blinds other drivers and they look a hell of a lot better and light up the road a lot more. I've had them for about a month now and drive mostly at night.

u/IceShallSnow · 2 pointsr/cars

Do you live in a city or rural area? If city, I would only upgrade fogs and highbeams, leave the low beams halogen. Philips makes the best halogen bulbs.

LED bulbs don't play as nice with headlights compared to halogen or hid bulbs. They tend to have a less focused beam, resulting in more glare, and equal or less beam distance.

The 2014 Civic has 9005 high beam, 9006 low beam, and h11 fogs.

You can upgrade your highbeam to led, and get that new white led drl, along with a brighter, more floody highbeam.

I have this bulb in my 2006 Civic high beams, and love it. It has a fan, but it's only noticeable when you're stopped, and the radio isn't playing. Plus, it's only on with the high beams. About 2x brighter than stock highbeams, and a little more distance.:

For fog lights, he's a kit off Amazon. I'd recommend yellow fog light lenses, as the lower color tempature helps with rainy roads. Reflects better off wet surfaces. Also looks cool. You will have to do some diy wiring with this kit though. An independent shop should be able to install the kit within a few hours.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01015EF9U/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1510247318&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=2014%2Bcivic%2Bfog%2Blight%2Bkit&dpPl=1&dpID=51fJLrEIC4L&ref=plSrch&th=1&psc=1

For led bulbs, I have these in my car also. Not super bright, but definitely a little brighter compared to halogens. No fan to fail, and are more reliable than halogen bulbs.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B074GX852M/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1510247478&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=h11+led&dpPl=1&dpID=51zNCZD1E%2BL&ref=plSrch

And finally, just get these for low beams. Brighter, slightly whiter, and a bit more beam distance:

I’m using these LED bulbs. Super crisp white light and the stock housings have a decent cut off so I’m not blinding everyone. I do plan on retrofitting projectors in the future though.

I was literally able to plug everything up and spin the bulb while watching the pattern change on the garage door. Because of this I was able to fine tune the cutoff to match the stock bulbs.

Ok, so I tried to take pictures of before and after in the same positions on the same night. Since all I have is my cell phone camera it was tricky to get pictures of what I was actually seeing, so hopefully this means something to you!

My review:

- Beam pattern is good. An even spread of light on the road.

- Field of light coverage is wider with the LEDs, they illuminate farther to the sides and lower in front of the car. Even though they use the same housing, I'm assuming the intensity and higher lumen count adds the extra range in each direction.

- The lights have mini fans for cooling that are barely audible but there, just an observation.

- No flicker resistor required! Some American brands flicker when replaced and require an additional resistor relay in place.

- Color temperature looks about 6000k, mostly pure white. This is a preference really, science proves 4300k is the perfect headlight color but suffice it to say these are much "whiter" than halogens.

- 2 Year no questions warranty!

- Should NEVER have to replace these. Any car I've had with halogens might go 1-3 years depending. I HATE when a bulb goes out at night and you're down to relying on a single headlamp. These LEDs should honestly last longer than I will keep this car.

- Standing in front of the car I don't see any glare, and against the garage there is no light bleeding above the line of site to blind oncoming drivers.

YMMV.

I bought and installed SEALIGHT LEDS for high and low beam lamps in my 2019 WRX base and have had no problems. Worth noting though is that if you do the high beam bulbs as LED you'll have to unplug a connection that enables the daytime running lights, or else you'll be running full high beams anytime you don't have your regular lights on. Also, I got a pack of LEDS that I was able to use for the C lamps, trunk and license plate illuminators. Plus I upgraded the interior lights to LED. Have had everything installed since March with no problems.

Changing the headlight bulbs won't void your warranty.

If you want a white light then you'll have to either swap the bulbs with an LED kit (cheap), or replace the entire headlamp assembly with an LED assembly (expensive).

There are cheaper LED kits than the one I linked but I would be wary of their quality. Replacing the assembly costs more and takes more work, but the light output is much better.

This is all the bulbs and stuff mentioned. As a bonus I also pasted some LED license plate lights which look much better than the yellow ish ones that come stock and they’re insanely easy to install. The fogs are a little bit of a pain mainly just to get the cover off. In my case my fingers were all chewed up from trying to pull off the cover but I used a pry tool to pull it off. As for the H7 headlights, one side will be a little harder to get to due to the lack of space but it’s nothing crazy. Enjoy!

u/Salamandastron · 2 pointsr/genesiscoupe

I would think those would be ok. Maybe they're defective, or just don't work well in a projector housing. If you don't end up figuring out the problem I do really recommend the Katanas for your lowbeams.

If you are in the city the bulbs burn out faster because you have to keep pressing the brakes. Bulbs usually burn out when turning on.

- I have replaced all the bulbs in my dad's car with LED bulbs. Been over a year and they hasn't burned out, before I had to replace them for him every 2 weeks or so. (This is for Camry running as taxi)

For the brake lights and day lights, I have the Auxbeam 3157 LED Light Bulbs and Auxbeam 194

For the headlights I have the Auxbeam LED Headlights F-S2 Series H11

Very good bulbs. I also have them in the 2008 escape. But I just bought it like 2 weeks ago so we will see.

Here they are on Amazon: HIKARI Ultra LED Headlight Bulbs Conversion Kit-9012, Prime LED 12000lm Cool White 6000K

Here is a video that I posted on YouTube that shows them in action: 2015 Chevy Volt with Hikari Ultra LEDs

I ordered these for the regular headlamps. Theres a place on the metal right by the lamp to stick the double sided adhesive pad They look nice, just put em on today and the sun's still out so I haven't seen em at night yet. I can link a pic when it's dark. I used regular halogens for the fog lights cause I kinda like the contrast of the ice blue on top and light yellow on the bottom.

Edit: the fog lamps are the same size as these if you want to do both as LEDs

I bought Katana's off of Amazon.

They look great and have lasted about 8 months. Everything fits in the light housing (no open dust caps). The velosters have H11B's. The plugs are a little different between these and the standard H11s. There's adapters out there, or just get a little creative in how to plug stuff in.

KATANA is the brand I went with. Cheap, stupid easy to install, and seems good quality. Have had them for about 6 months now and they are such a massive difference you can't even really compare them to the stock ones. I also drive a Sport and it is so much better driving it at night now. Looks very nice as well.

Part of my job has me drive the perimeter of the building at night before going home to double check for any safety issues or unsecured power equipment, etc etc. I made sure to get a dozen opinions from other workers to make sure I wasn't that dickhead throwing aftermarket LEDs in and blinding oncoming traffic, but nobody has said anything besides the fact that they look much nicer.

I used to own a 9th gen sport and wanted to do the same upgrade as you. If you're willing to splice wires then you can purchase the touring headlights from college hills honda and do that for yourself. however, I'd recommend bulb swaps to all LED and keep the housing, any aftermarket housing imo looks cheap and ruins the aesthetic.

They are not dual filament. Only the low’s.

They only flick upon using the turn signals. I am wondering if it is a matter of confusion with the electricity. The car is not used to the amount of current the LED’s are requiring as compared to the halogens.

What do you think?

u/Dindu_Nuggets · 1 pointr/Fiat

Ok, for LEDs you should go with double sided LEDs that matches the same location where the halogen bulb emits light not triple, quadruple, or other aftermarket LEDs with more than two light sources. You can check by counting the number of yellow squares on the LED bulb which contains the actual LED light source.

The best LEDs in my opinion is Hikari Megatron but they have a cheaper option here.

Keep in mind that these LEDs will have a fan that stick out further than the stock halogen bulb harness. If you want to go with another brand then just make sure it is the 9012 bulb size and has only two LEDs. Even for brake lights and turn signals you want the LEDs to match the same light source location as the stock halogen. If you get an LED with ridiculous amounts of LED light sources on it then it might not illuminate the area around you or blind other drivers.

I switched everything over to LED and haven't looked back. I use the 6000K Lasfit 9005 for the DRLs

And the 6000K H8 Hikari Ultrasfor my headlamps.

I didn't need to readjust my lamps from their stock location. Lots of light. Love'm.

The DRLs have a little flicker to them but I tried a few different solutions to fix it and none of it worked. Now I kind of like the flicker and feel it actually makes them more safe.

I bought some LED bulbs off Amazon, been working pretty well once I got the cutoff dialed in. I have the Hikari bulbs for our specific housing, and they have pretty good output for LED bulbs, if a little pricey. Cutoff is dead flat, and there are only minor hotspots.

Be aware you're going to have to adjust the cutoff so you don't blind anyone. On our cars, there's a hole in top of the headlight assembly to access a gear to move the headlight up or down. You can use a Philips screwdriver to adjust it.

These are the Ultra ones with greater light output. i have the cheaper ones and i love them. you know the higher you go the worst visibility is. anything higher than 6k is cosmetic only and starts giving worst visibility. and personally its more of a JDM look, but everyone has there preferences.

I put a set of these in my b6 Passat about a month ago. They did require some slight modification to the piece that secures them to the headlamp assembly, but it was a very easy install. I got these LED lights for my 07 taco and they’re so bright I’m having to buy aftermarket projection lenses. I haven’t had people flashing lights at me, but I did have a dude hold his middle finger up at me while I was behind him at a stop light. Note: I have a 6” lift.

u/bran_donger · 1 pointr/Acura_RSX

Took this from another comment when I answered the same question.

I used these adapters with these LEDs.

LEDs are great but nothing to write home about; pretty typical of Chinese LED kits these days.

The adapter worked great but it took a little messing around with to fit properly.

The barrel part is too long and too loose, so I cut it down about 0.75” with my Dremel to match the original bulb socket, then put some high-temp RTV gasket maker around the inside to hold the light in place.

High-temp RTV is the only adhesive I had at the time that could withstand the temps that the LED will reach, but I suppose any adhesive will do, as long as it doesn’t burn on the LED housing or melt into the plastic.

Install them, adjust the leds to 9 by 3 like a clock and you'll be good to go. You might need to buy a new inverted dust cap, I had to get one for my Lexus. These LEDs appear pure 5000k white.

You will not blind oncoming traffic as long as your headlights are properly adjusted. Any questions I'll be happy to answer.

They have an interesting gap down low in the light pattern, (6ft in front of truck or so) but fog lights fill it in.

Full disclosure, I had these lights that were setup for a HID kit. May or may not be different with what you have.

Also, make sure you've upgraded the wiring harness as well. My cheap Chinese-eum relay harness decided to crap the bed right when I put these in. So I had to drive around for a week with brand new beautiful headlights that wouldn't turn on while I waited for a new harness to ship......

T4R dot org was my guiding source on this exact same mod; there are a few threads on there that are worth reading (use the sidebar 4Runner Resource Guide here to find your way).

I went with H11 LED Morimoto 2Stroke 2.0s for the low beams, CougarMotor LED 9005s for the high beams, and Alla H16 LEDs for the fogs. Finished the complete install in 30-45 minutes this weekend (fogs took the most time and effort; plenty of install vids for all bulbs on the Tube/internets). My dad loves the output on everything so much that he's looking to switch all his Highlander lights over.

Can't speak to the colored lights or film for anything, and I've noticed a slight flicker in the DRLs but nothing that dissuades me from using them (and they don't appear to operate like reports from others about LED/HID DRLs functioning at high beam power).
