Amazon sells them for a great price. I love them because you can throw them in the dishwasher or boil them to kill bacteria.

Try sea sponges! I know it sounds crazy, but sea sponges rest against your cervix and absorb everything, and because they are spongey, you can still do insertion things without worrying about a mess. I use them to have sex on my period and I will never buy tampons again.

Here's a link to a name brand, but you can also just buy a cheaper large sea sponge (as long as it is natural!) and cut it up yourself!

Edit: I made an /r/sex post about sea sponge tampons, if anyone would like more detailed information from a regular user!

I don't have pictures of my pre-ScA skin, so those are the earliest ones I have.

Current Routine

u/washingtonadams · 18 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Before and during from Nov 24 to Dec 31 of this (past) year. That's what a month of spiro did for me! (I'd been on Pocketderm for a couple of months prior.)

Better quality shots from all angles: November 22 and December 30.

Just dealing with PIH and the occasional pimple now!

Edit: Another user requested routines from everyone posting pictures, so I thought I'd oblige!

I call it a loofah too and you search on amazon for loofahs and they show up called loofahs. Internet has to be all achktually.

Bath Shower Sponge Loofahs (60g/pcs) Mesh Pouf Shower Ball, Mesh Bath and Shower Sponge Pack of 4 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F88BMC8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_zXNYBbNXFJN3N

u/InexorableMarch · 15 pointsr/asktransgender

There's a pretty easy way to avoid this:

  1. Take a warm bath with some bath salts. After about 10 minutes of soaking or so, exfoliate your skin, try this: (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001POYT16/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) That's just an example, you can get some epsom salt (same stuff) at Walmart for half the price.

  2. Exfoliating the skin first prevents ingrown hairs. Super important. The first time I did this, I did not know how to shave my body properly and I ended up being way too vigorous and getting lots of nasty razor bumps. To exfoliate I used:

  3. Loofah or Pouf (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CTQMIC/ref=oh_details_o02_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) again check Walmart, it'll be cheaper. The main idea here is that you want to exfoliate dead skin and loosen up any hairs that are growing.

  4. St. Ives Exfoliating Body Wash (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004JLGC12/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) This is a really great natural exfoliant that you can put on the loofah/poof while you scrub

  5. After exfoliation, you shave. I shave against the grain with a good Gillette razor using this shaving cream: Cremo Cream (http://www.amazon.com/Cremo-Astonishingly-Superior-Shaving-Creams/dp/B003FVWRCK/ref=pd_sbs_hpc_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=191FPDNMEKJB5PRZXF94) Which does a really tremendous job. You only need to spread a little bit of it around and it helps to give a really great shave without any irritation (great for both men and women). Plus it last a long time.

  6. Moisturize with your favorite skincare lotion, brand doesn't really matter. You just want to keep that area moist and healthy.

  7. LAST STEP. Most important, DO NOT DO THIS THE SAME DAY YOU SHAVE. DO IT EITHER A COUPLE DAYS BEFORE OR AFTER. Use an acid-based lotion like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TTPZQ6/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 or http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002D48QRK/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The basic idea here is that through chemical exfoliation they'll smooth the red bumps and give you a very smooth look.

This is my skincare routine and I don't get any of those ingrown hairs or razor bumps. I used too, though. That's why I do this.
u/BlobsterBisque · 12 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Silicone face scrubbers are amazingly gentle. They dry really quickly and are easily cleaned. You can get a pack of two here on Amazon and I hear you can find them at Walmart, too.

As far as italy towels, you want the pink one for face use.

u/bearable_lightness · 12 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Excellent advice here! I wanted to add that if you find yourself having a really hard time giving up the physical exfoliation, you might want to try a konjac sponge. They're much less abrasive than the brush you're using, but they provide light physical exfoliation that might help you adjust to using a gentler cleanser. If you use one, you want to let it dry out fully between uses (so it can be helpful to have 2 in rotation). You also don't want to store it in the bathroom because the moisture in there can lead to mold growth. Generally, they should be replaced every month.

u/uno_dos_tres_quattro · 11 pointsr/AsianBeauty

So just three things?

Konjac Sponge

Eye Moisturizer (what brand?)

Hadarabo Gokujyun Lotion

u/10eoe10 · 10 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Both sponges are dry in the picture. The old one is 6 months old. I know you're supposed to replace it after about 3-4 months but I never knew how big of a difference there was until I finally bought a new one recently. I put it off because I thought it hadn't changed much. There was a difference in size but most importantly a big difference in texture too, my old one had become more rough and I had to press down harder to get my skin feeling smooth. When I tried the new one last night I'd forgotten how soft it can be and I didn't have to apply as much pressure as my old one.

This is the My Konjac Sponge in French Green Clay. If you're in the US they sell this also at Whole Foods for $12.99.

I'm not sure how to directly link to be able to "watch" the deal, but I figured we could all add to this thread as ones pop up. The most relevant ones I've seen so far:

  • The Booskin posted earlier
  • Mizon Aha & Bha Daily Clean Toner (14.99) - lowest price on ebay is 15.25, but this comes with prime shipping =)
  • Mizon All-in-one Snail Repair cream - the 120ml is 14.99, which is a pretty good per ml price
  • Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel Exfoliant: on sale for 19.99
  • A bunch of non-AB Vitamin C serums (h/t /u/firewontquell)
  • Some konjac sponges. Not a great deal - a bit pricey - but here's one. (h/t /u/2pale4lyfe).

ETA: /u/vertigocrash points out that if you start by shopping at smile.amazon.com your purchase benefits charity as well (I think it's .5%).
u/HPchick87 · 8 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I loved the scrub too, but what I think you're mostly seeing results from is the exfoliation. SCA recommends using liquid exfoliation mostly, but there's some approved physical in the sidebar. Check out AHA & BHA.

Physical exfoliation

u/likewtvrman · 7 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Stop using the St. Ives scrub on your face!! The reason it's making it worse is because it's doing the same thing, it's too rough for facial skin and is basically just a scrub version of using the clarisonic. Stick to just a gentle cleanser for a while. I would say to switch to a chemical exfoliant, but it sounds like the natural skin barrier is compromised so not the best time to introduce actives. Instead, maybe start out with VERY mild physical exfoliation, either a konjac sponge or a silicone scrubber using a very light hand.

Also, have you tried using vaseline to top your moisturizer? If not I would definitely recommend, I find it's the best thing to help heal irritated skin because it creates a protective barrier. You just need a very thin layer, patted on gently with fingertips so as not to irritate the skin more.

u/marmosetohmarmoset · 7 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

If you dislike pads because of the uncomfortable, crinkly diaper-ness of them then you could try out reusable cloth pads. There are a few companies that make fancy ones, like luna pads, or you can make your own.

Menstrual cups are an option, but do some research to see if other people who have the same problem as you have had success with them. The Menstrual cup livejournal community is a good resource for this. I've never gotten headaches from tampons, but I used to get weird cramps from them. I tried 2 different menstrual cup brands- one with a soft, thin rim (Diva cup) and one with a larger, harder rim (Mooncup UK). The one with the larger rim gave me the same kind of cramps as tampons (though not quite as bad). The softer rim didn't.

A third option is using a natural sea sponge. I find it a little icky, but I have friends who rave about them. They're supposedly a lot more comfortable than tampons and so might relieve your problems. They're also reusable for several cycles, which is pretty cool IMO (if you're squicked out by blood, then none of the options I've listed will be good for you, unfortunatly), and less complicated than menstrual cups. I'm sure there are lots of brand options, but I did some quick googling and found some on amazon

u/heathersavvy · 7 pointsr/homemaking

Are you talking about these? If they are plastic mesh, they likely melted.

u/Beckergill · 7 pointsr/WitchesVsPatriarchy

Just to add my two cents. I scrub first. My skin gets irritated if I scrub again right after shaving.

Also, exfoliating gloves or towels are AMAZING! Better than a loofah because they're easier to clean and dry, so bacteria doesn't build up on them. And as opposed to some body scrubs, they won't clog your drain. I use them with face wash when scrubbing my back/shoulders and a moisturizing/milky body wash on my legs/rest of my body. Also, with the towels, you can get different strengths. So I have a medium strength one and a hardcore one. The hardcore one is great to use on my legs before I shave. You'll get a way better shave from properly exfoliating before you shave.

This is what I'm talking about if you haven't heard of them: exfoliating gloves and exfoliating towel

Also, I never really liked shave gel, but this Cremo Cream shaving cream changed my life. It is so freaking good

u/Daheep · 6 pointsr/AsianBeauty

You want to exfoliate first! Get an Italy Cloth, Scrub Gloves, or if you want to go non-AB, one of these. The next time you shower, scrub yourself down & any lotion you end up choosing will absorb much better.

u/sakurarose · 6 pointsr/birthcontrol

I have a few thoughts/suggestions:

  1. Reconsider an IUD. Not already having kids isn't a good reason to deny someone an IUD. There is a slightly bigger risk of the body rejecting the IUD, but it isn't big enough to stop you from trying. I got an IUD last November and it has been wonderful. I have never had kids. If your doctor's only reason to say no to the IUD is because you haven't had kids, go talk to another doctor. If you're in the US, I've heard good things about Planned Parenthood.

  2. If you are having problems with tampons, you might want to consider alternatives. I personally use and love the Softcup. There are also other options, like the Diva cup, the Moon cup and Sea Sponge Tampons. I have heard good things about them, although I haven't tried them personally. I suspect one of the cups might be good for you since it doesn't absorb like tampons do, so it can't cause you problems from overuse.

  3. If you're still having vaginal pain this long after the tampon problem, is it possible that you have a bad yeast infection or something?
u/Ephemeral_Halcyon · 6 pointsr/Nexplanon

How long have you had the Nexplanon in?

It is normal, and may continue to change (for better or worse) over time. The Nexplanon alters your body's hormones and can cause changes in acne, menstruation, cravings (and in turn weight if you give in to said cravings and consume too many calories), etc.

The best thing you can do is stay on top of it. Wash your face in the morning and at night, and more during the day if need be. Choose a gentle wash like cetaphil, cetaphil baby wash+ lotion, or aquaphor wash/baby wash. A castile soap or Aveeno is also nice, so is a simple mild bar of soap. Try to get things that aren't perfume scented or wildly colored. Wash your face only with that soap, then gently pat dry and fan dry if need be. Afterwards, apply a very very thin layer of a gentle non-scented non-dyed lotion like eucerin, curel, or lubriderm. The lotion is very important. Giving your body clean, gentle moisture is going to help cut down on bad oil production. You do NOT want to dry out your face or "let your pores breathe" because this will amp up oil production and even lead to scarring and more acne.

Keep your hands off your face. Wash your face whenever you get dirty or sweaty. When you're in the shower wash it after you condition your hair to ensure that you wash off any conditioner that might drip down because that stuff wiiiiill cause acne. Don't use any spot treatments, salicylic acid washes, face scrubbers, etc. Wash your hands, then use the soap and water just on your hands or on a very gentle applicator like those little silicone "scrubbies"
or an ultrasoft facial brush. You don't want to scratch your skin up, scrub anything open, etc. If you are a person that exfoliates, don't do it more than once a week or once every two weeks. Use ground oatmeal (mixed with honey), baking soda (mixed with water) or sugar (mixed with a gentle oil like coconut or olive) mixed into a paste and gently rubbed on in a circular motion-- again, no need to scratch and scrub to exfoliate, always be gentle.

Between washes or when you can't wash immediately, use a gentle non-scented non-dyed baby wipe like pampers or other natural care brands. You can also find oil sheets in the store, but a square of toilet paper works just as well (if not better than) oil sheets and is far cheaper-- just tear some off and store it in a ziplock baggie inside your bag. A dab of tea tree essential oil or rosemary essential oil will help soothe the soreness and reduce the redness of pimples. Lots of people think EOs are BS, but they do have their place and can be very helpful. They aren't going to magically fix anything, but they do help if only a little. You can mix a few drops with a couple tbsps of extra virgin coconut oil as well to make a very gentle overnight moisturizer for your face.

Aztec clay face masks are nice for getting oil off and clearing up acne, as well. Always lotion after use. Drink tons of water (32-64oz a day minimum), eat well (cut out as much greasy, sugary food as possible), and spend some time in the sun moving around each day. Wash your sheets and pillowcases once a week (some people even change their pillowcase every single night to help prevent acne) and try to use 100% cotton sheets that will breathe and keep you from building up sweat as you sleep. And the big one-- absolutely STOP using make up if you can help it or only wear it when necessary. If you must wear it, try to find a foundation like bareminerals or rodan + fields mineral peptides. It should be oil free and you should aim to keep it pretty tame and natural as these are much less harsh on the skin. Always moisturize and let dry before applying any makeup, and wash off your makeup as soon as possible.

Hope all of this helps. It's an absolute bitch for me once in a while (like right now), too. I wear no makeup, wash my sheets once a week, wash my face twice a day and freshen with wipes or TP squares. I use cetaphil baby wash+lotion and wash only with my hands. I use Curel or lubriderm lotion. For really bad spots I dab on tea tree oil a couple times and by the next day they don't hurt any and are clearing up. For the most part it keeps everything in check.

u/heckinhandbasket · 5 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Secret Key lemon sparkling peeling gel is a very popular, inexpensive peeling gel! I also use one of these scrub pads when I wash my face, I bought a pack maybe 2-3 days ago and I CAN'T GET ENOUGH my skin is a baby butt over here. They're incredibly gentle and inexpensive and you can use them with cleansers you already have- I bought mine at walmart!

u/gigantic_trex · 5 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Personally, I would play it safe and hold off on the Stridex, but you know your face best. Just make sure you pay attention to how it responds. Also, if you're actually getting flakes of skin off your face, you might benefit from very gentle physical exfoliation. I've heard good things about kojnac sponges, but as long as you're very gentle, and do it sparingly, you could use a soft wash cloth too.

u/courtesyofthebadwolf · 5 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I have had the same issue with make up slide/dryness. My skin is pretty sensitive, so I'd been following the whole wash gentle and leave it alone philosophy, but after I took a break from wearing makeup and saw this happening, I decided to try a few different things.

I now exfoliate with a konjac sponge. Sometimes I use Cerave hydrating cleanser, as well, but warm water and my sponge do a great job. I use pure jojoba oil as a moisturizer and makeup remover. I also try to keep hydrated by drinking water and herbal tea. So far, my skin seems happier and I've had less "sliding" incidents.

And, to me, freaking konjac sponges feel great when massaging the face, so I'd recommend them for exfoliation all day, every day :).

Have you ever tried looking up a how-to video? We can give advice all day, but I'm guessing you've looked up how to put in a tampon before and haven't had luck. At this point, watching a guide might be your best bet.

But if you read advice and watch instructions and still can't get it, or if you want an alternative, just use a menstrual sponge. They're softer and don't have a defined shape, meaning they take some of the comfort and positioning difficulties out of the equation.

u/dunkintitties · 4 pointsr/Instagramreality

Lush🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️ Full of irritating fragrances and botanicals and not worth the price. CeraVe is a bomb-ass, cheap moisturizer that is non-irritating and full of awesome ingredients. Deff my #1 recommendation.

With moisturizing, I’ve found that the key in layering several different products. Like you, I have to deal with dry, eczema prone skin in the harsh New England winters. After cleansing my skin with a gentle, lotion-type cleanser (CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser) I layer on an Asian “toner” which is basically just a watery moisturizer. I really like Hada Labo’s Gokujyun Premium because it has Urea in it which is great at both moisturizing and gently dissolving dead skin. After layering this lotion on a few times, I slap on some CeraVe Cream (not the lotion, the heavy duty cream) and then, if it’s before bed, I top it off with an occlusive layer of CeraVe Healing Ointment. some people like to use Vaseline but CeraVe Healing Ointment has a bunch of good stuff in it that Vaseline lacks.

In addition to this layering method, you should also be getting rid of any dead skin buildup. Some people like to use acids (Alpha Hydroxy, for example) for this purpose but they can be irritating so I like to use a konjac sponge.

If you want to get into anti-aging stuff, work on getting yoir skin to a point where it’s properly hydrated first. After that, you can dive into the magical world of retinoids! Hope this helps. Big shout out to r/SkincareAddiction!

You seem to have done your own research which is good so you can have an understanding on what would work for you and what would not. For your oil cleanser if you're on a budget and don't wear super heavy water-proof makeup The Face Shop's cleansing oil will be enough, however if you do wear water-proof makeup or don't like the runny texture of cleansing oils then the Banila Co. CIZ would be the better option because it's a cleansing balm. I don't wear makeup however so all of that was from what I heard from reviews.

For your 2nd cleanser if you find that the CeraVe Foaming Cleanser is doing everything you need it to do then stick with it. It's good to have a product that's readily available at a nearby store so you don't need to wait for shipping or deal with customs.

For your moisturizer the Recovery Gel might be enough for you since you have combo-oily skin, however some people say this might not provide enough moisture especially in the colder months. If your skin does get drier in the winter or in cold temperature you might want to add another moisturizer into your routine. But since it's the summer you probably don't need two moisturizers ATM.

If you're looking to lighten up scars here's a mini list of ingredients you should look out for:

Vitamin C: A popular vitamin C serum is the C20 or C21.5, the formulation of it however is very unstable so if you don't want to deal with that try the Melano CC intensive anti-spot essence.

Niacinamide: For niacinamide products check out this spreadsheet and this megathread for recommendations.

AHAs: This is very tricky to use since it's an active that can make your skin more sensitive to UV rays. If you don't wear sunscreen on the days after you use it, it can actually be very bad for the skin. A few AHA products include Cosrx AHA 7 whitehead power liquid and Papa Recipe White Flower Clear Up 8% AHA Gel. AHAs can also help you out with your whiteheads but I wouldn't suggest you start using any actives or chemical exfoliants until you have your skincare routine down. If you do want to start getting rid of your whiteheads try using a konjac sponge with your 2nd cleanser. I personally like konjac sponges that are teardrop or heart shaped since the point end of them is really good for getting into the sides of the noses, which is where dirt and sebum collect the most for me.

Licorice: It's Skin Power 10 Formula Effector LI and Snowise EX Brightening Serum

Arbutin: This ingredient seems to be more common in sheet masks but every day products with arbutin in it include Hada Labo Shirojyun Arbutin Lotion (Hada labo has an entire line of products called the "Shirojyun" line with arbutin in it) and LadyKin Vanpir Dark Repair Cream

Tranexamic acid: This ingredient isn't very popular but the brand Naruko seems to use it a lot including their Apple Seed and Tranexamic Acid Black Spots and Lines Defying Lotion and Apple Seed and Tranexamic Acid Black Spots and Lines Defying Moisturizer

Fermented soy: The brand SANA is very popular for their use of fermented soy in their products, some of their most popular products include their Soy Milk Astaxanthin Lifting Gel, Isoflavone Lotion and isoflavone wrinkle eye cream

Once you have your basic routine down that's when you can start adding serums, ampoules, essences and exfoliators to your routine. You should also always wait in between introducing products into your routine. Many beginners start by adding everything all at once, the problem with this is that if you break out you don't know what product is doing it or if your skin is improving you don't know which products are helping with that. Add one new product every 2-4 weeks into your routine so you can get a good understanding on what that product's doing to your skin before you add another product in. It might seems like a long time to wait but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Also just to let you know, questions like these would be better to put into the daily help thread that's stickied to the top of main page everyday. Sorry if this is a bit long.

u/ms_kittyfantastico · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

It will probably help for physical exfoliation. It won't clean your pores out as it claims, but if you use it gently a few times a week you will notice smoother skin. Another option people use on here is the konjac sponge. Whatever you end up using, just be gentle and listen to your skin.

I used to have trouble cleaning the tip too, until I started using one of these to clean my sponge and brushes: https://www.amazon.com/S-T-Lilscrubbies-2-Count/dp/B0136MDZFK/ref=pd_sim_194_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=51q1qOkShKL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&psc=1&refRID=6T7YWR4STE1J0ABMG4CN

You can get one at just about any drug store and even Sephora sells one for about $6. Just rub the tip of the sponge into the scrubby with whatever soap you use for cleaning. It also cuts down on your cleaning time!

u/messenia · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

No matter how I try to dry them out, loofahs always smell musty to me after a while. I used to have a really good strap with sisal bristles, similar to this one but a longer bristle pad. It eventually fell apart and I don't really care for the woven sisal straps.

These days I use a net rope. Since they don't have much "scratch" , there's no risk of scrubbing yourself raw and are perfect for using everyday. They are inexpensive and I can just throw it in the laundry to keep it fresh.

I haven't used a washcloth in the shower or bath in years. I use one on my neck and ears when I wash my face and that's pretty much it.

I'll just give you my generalize copy/pasta I usually hand out in situations like these so if you wanna read it when you got a chance, then you have it! Also has tips and purchase links for Amazon as well for different axolotl stuffs.

HOW TO CYCLE:

  1. Set up tank with clean conditioned water. 2. Add recommended amount of beneficial bacteria per label

  2. Add "waste" to the tank, so a little bit of say fish flakes ( they're cheap and you need a waste source since you DO NOT put a fish or axolotl in a uncycled tank. The flakes are gonna break down into ammonia. The goal with cycling is to get benefical bacteria to build up so they can change (eat) the waste & breaks down the ammonia into nitrite then finally break it down further into nitrate. All these chemicals can hurt axolotl.

  3. Test tank a couple days later with a testing kit ( avoid strips, they will lie to you and give false results) if there is ANY ammonia or nitrite present, you arent cycled. If there is no nitrate present either, you arent cycled.

  4. If you find ammonia or nitrite, take 50% of the water out and add clean treated water. Add more seachem stability ( benefical bacteria) ( add these each time you change water. Even if it's cycled)

  5. Add a pinch more flakes & Continue to do this until your tank is cycled. Meaning you have no ammonia, no nitrite and a presence of 40ppm or less of nitrate.

    Warnings:
1.If your tank isn't cycled, you are going to chemical burn them with ammonia in the water. And they will suffer. Nitrate ( the final of the chemical process) can also burn the fish/axolotl. This is why we keep this number under 40ppm. If it is higher than 40ppm, change the water 75%.

  6. This beneficial bacteria lives in the filter. If you change your filter, you just ruined your cycle. Don't do this. If it gets nasty/clogged & you have to replace the cartirage, leave the old cartirage in with the new one for a few days so the beneficial bacteria can inhabit the new filter. If you can avoid replacing that, just rinse/gently squeeze out the filter in old tank water when you do clean the tank to keep from murdering the bacteria
  7. Letting the filter dry out will also kill a cycle.

  8. *NOTE: Most bottles of beneficial bacteria say they cycle a tank in a day. Cycling can take up to a month in some cases but usually just two weeks if you keep on it. This requires constantly monitoring, testing and replacing most of the water in the tank when you get high ammonia/nitrite levels. You need ammonia/nitrite to be 0 and nitrate to be more than 0. Definitely less <40. If all your levels are higher than this, or if nitrate remains 0, your tank isn't cycled.***

    Summery;
So basically, cycling builds beneficial bacteria which makes these waste breakdown chemicals go through a cycle of breaking down into a less dangerous form which keeps fish/axolotl from getting sick/dying. ... Most new fish people don't do this. And fish store employees try & tell them just adding something like seachem stability fixes this. It doesn't. An uncycled tank is basically new tank syndrome and it kills animals.

You still are going to need to keep an eye on chemical levels after the cycle..Occasionally different things can cause the cycle to "crash", like changing the filters or a high tempeture, or the filters becoming dry..

Once your tank is cycled, and you have an axolotl, honestly it's not that much work. The cycles the worst part. I feed my adult axolotls once every other day, I change 75% of their water twice a month, and add water to top it off / spot clean occasionally two-three other times a month due to the water I lose due to evaporation.

    Stuff you'll need:
  9. Air stone+ airline+ air pump ( cheap ones are at Walmart.
  10. Seachem stability ( beneficial bacteria)
  11. Seachem prime ( it's a water conditioner I just prefer seachem)
  12. A tank, 10 gallon minimum for 1 axolotl. But the bigger the better.
  13. A filter
  14. Hides for the axolotl
  15. A syphon / water vacuum ( to suck out the poo/change water easy. I have a long food grade plastic hose I got from Ace hardware. I syphon and let it drain into the yard
  16. A bucket
  17. A Tupperware
  18. A fan. Literally any fan you can put on top the tank and point at it will work. I have a table fan sitting on top my tank and blowing at the water to help keep it cool. A chiller is best, but they are expensive.
  19. A tank thermometer ( don't get the thermometer strips, they lie

You should try a tubing mascara! It's a different kind of mascara that removes with just warm water and shouldn't smear all over. L'Oreal makes one!

Otherwise, I have to double cleanse to fully remove my masacra. I use a cleansing oil to break-down my makeup then use a regular cleanser on a konjac sponge to fully clean my face!

u/DavidAg02 · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

For cleaning your face in the shower... I highly recommend a Konjac Sponge. It's highly recommended on /r/skincareaddiction. No soap required... just wet the sponge and wash your face with it. Amazing.

I also recommend an alum block for after you shave. It's a solid all natural antiseptic that helps heal little nicks, cuts and razor burn. Just rub it all over your wet face after you shave and let it dry a little. Here is the one I use. Killer product... lasts forever and super cheap.

u/ignoretheyam · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I'm young adult two years out of college starting out in my industry so my budget is pretty tight. I can't use the Cerave cleansers or cream either as I'm sensitive to fatty alcohols. Here's what I use for my cleansers/exfoliater:

Some of those look like ingrown hairs. Don't use anything with exfoliating beads in it; one because you're not supposed to scrape your face and two because they're bad for the environment. I've found a [silicone face scrubber](S & T Lil'scrubbies, 2 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0136MDZFK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_agrGzbJF7A5HA) has been really great for my cleansing routine. Don't just concentrate on the face when cleaning. Make sure to wash your neck/chest/hairline/back of ears. Oil can come from all-kinds of places. Especially during summer. When shaving make sure to steam your face. It loosens the pores. Make sure to moisturize.

u/AlexaviortheBravier · 3 pointsr/ftm

No problem.

I had some issues where I kept changing something in it and messing all my progress up. Been doing much better now that I realized I was the problem. Seems like a lot in writing, but it really isn't much.
__
AM:

  • Wash hands

  • Wash face with Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser gently using kojac sponge

  • Pat dry with washcloth

  • Apply Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera with a cotton square/circle

  • After shaking to mix, pat on CeraVe Moisturizing Cream to which I had previously added almost .5 fl oz/15mL of 100% pure tea tree oil. (I think I read that it should be no more than 10% tea tree oil.) Last time I used Now tea tree oil but I have also used Jason.

  • Wait a while and sunscreen before going out, added to help scarring. Not sure if the one I had been using was good for my skin though so I won't put a brand here.

I mainly use the kojac sponge because it cuts down on me picking the flacky skin off my face which tended to be the gateway to me picking acne or peeling off scabs.

    __

    PM:

(I do my face wash last step in the shower even though places tend to recommend against it because of the heat; if I turned up the heat a lot during my shower, I turn it down to wash my face. It seemed to me that I used more heat in the sink after showering since my hands can stand heat better than the rest of my body.)

  • Wash face and neck with Hado Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam (Harsher so I prefer it at night.)

  • Pat dry with towel before drying any other part of my body. (I go face, hair, upper back, rest of me and don't lay a towel on my back after showering since that seemed to cause acne.)

  • Apply Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera with a cotton square/circle

  • After shaking to mix, pat on Differin Gel

  • Pat on same CeraVe Moisturizing Cream as above to face and neck.

    __
    Shower details:

I use shampoo/conditioner that doesn't contain sulfates. I know my one friend realized that sulfates in her shampoo were likely what was causing her back to break out. I use this which is expensive but it lasts me a year even though I tend to overuse it.

I also wash in the following order: shampoo, conditioner (leave in), private areas with water, wash my hands with my body soap (Dr. Bronner's), then my shoulders/back before any other part since that seemed to cut down on back acne as well. Last, in order, I wash my armpits, groin (not the inside of genitals, I mean my groin pit?? [Where my leg bends] I cover my genitals to keep soap out of that area.), feet. Then I rinse out the conditioner and do my face wash routine.

Edit: Also forgot to mention that I avoid letting soap sit on my skin. Trial and error seems to show that that causes me to breakout as well so I rinse it off as I go.

I don't change my pillowcase every night but I flip them. I have two pillows I sleep on and I sleep once on each before changing the pillowcase.
    ____

I would definitely recommend changing one thing or adding one thing at a time and patch testing if you can.
    __

ETA: If your acne is severe, I'd still recommend a dermatologist when you can go. Or maybe talking to your primary doctor even. My HRT prescriber, for my acne, prescribed me Doxycycline and Tretinoin at one point. I don't use either, currently, but you can try using a non-dermatologist if you don't have any other option.

    Edit2: Clarified some minor things.

I looove oil cleansing. KOSE Softymo Speedy oil is a great, cheap one that you can get on Amazon for about $9-$10 (is also an Asian brand so might be easy for you to find if you are not in the U.S.). I also use these little silicone face scrubbies while oil cleansing and it just feels so good. I've noticed significant less blackheads since starting as well.

  1. Is PocketDerm available in your region? This looks like something an oral antibiotic and some gentler treatments could help resolve.

  2. You're using a lot of really harsh treatments. Does your skin ever feel tight and dry in areas, and oily in other areas? If so, your face is oily because your skin is trying to re-hydrate itself. It's important to be kind to your skin.

  3. Over-hydrating skin isn't a thing I've ever heard of, and if it does exist then you are definitely not in danger of doing it. Not even close.

I would get rid of everything you're doing and start fresh, with much gentler products.

  • Try Vanicream Free and Clear. It's gentler, and doesn't have fatty alcohols. CeraVe Foaming can dry out skin, and dry skin is bad.

  • You can use a konjac sponge a few times per week for gentle physical exfoliation. Don't over use it though, we don't want to irritate your skin!

  • I love Sebamed Clear Face Gel as a moisturizer. It helps repair your acid mantle and rebalance your skin's pH.

  • Where's your sunscreen, man?! EltaMD makes a good one.

  • If you decide to try OCM, consider using Neem Oil. Tons of people here have had success with it.

  • CHECK YOUR SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER. If you have bacne you might be further irritating it with ingredients in your shampoo and conditioner.

A couple of the items listed are a bit pricey, but they're so great, in my opinion. The Sebamed, especially. And the PocketDerm. If you try these and your skin improves, you can try slowly reintroducing your harsh treatments. Try to love your skin, not beat it into submission.
u/all_guac6911420 · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

This is the sponge I was referring to. The shape is more effective in my opinion. It's flat on both sides, but the tip allows you to get into the crevices of the sides of your nose or any detail spots.

u/Spootpants · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Hi ladies and gents! So sorry in advance, this is going to be long!

I've just recently started having success with the products I'm using and I'm thinking it's a matter of proper combination/layering (I've been reading a lot about the Vitamin C/BHA/AHA/Niacin situations). I feel overwhelmed trying to figure out what works with what or counter-acts, etc, so I'd love some input from more knowledgeable folks. I don't have a set routine and I'd like to change that. I'd say I have combination skin, very acne prone although it's pretty mild at the moment due to the recent success of something?! Lots of PIH. No birth control or prescriptions currently.

AM:

  1. Petunia - Vitamin C serum

  2. Shiseido Urban Environment Oil Free Sunscreen

  3. Nars Multi-Protect Primer with SPF 30 (is this enough sun protection or should I buy the Shiseido?)

  4. MyKonjac Charcoal sponge with Cera Ve foaming

  5. Stridex red box

  6. Cera Ve PM Facial Lotion

  7. Mario Badescu Drying Lotion for spot treatment

I also occasionally do [Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay] (http://www.amazon.com/Aztec-Secret-Indian-Healing-Cleansing/dp/B0014P8L9W) or Glamglow Super Tingling masks but I'm not consistent with it.

I have used all products with the exception of the Vitamin C Serum for at least 4 months. Nothing has seemed to make anything worse but I'd like to improve. Open to any and all suggestions for routine or products. Primary concerns: acne, anti-aging, hyper-pigmentation.

THANK YOU SO MUCH to any and all help or input. I really appreciate it and I apologize if I'm asking something that should be apparent by what I'm reading here in the sub. I'm just a bit confused. :)

Girl, I feel your pain. I am also aggressively treating my acne right now, and nothing is working, and it has absolutely dried out my skin. I second what was said about not using brushes with your foundation in a traditional sense. I highly recommend a beauty blender because it will irritate your acne the least and since it's used moist, it will help the dry skin from looking flakier. I would keep that thing very very clean and bacteria free though since dirty sponges will only make acne worse.

If you don't want to use a beauty blender for sanitary reasons, I would recommend stippling on your foundation with a brush like the Shiseido foundation brush. Basically, you just want to dab your foundation on instead of rubbing it in, which is less irritating and gives fuller coverage for any scarring.. I would also get a bottle of Evian spray to spray down your face after foundation which really helps if foundation starts to look dry and cakey.
___
Edit: Added links. Also, I've found that the key to covering bad acne scarring is not to find the most full coverage foundation, such as Dermablend which may suffocate your pores more and cause more breakouts, but to apply whatever foundation that doesn't break your skin out more in thin layers and then go over your trouble spots with a good full coverage foundation. I love the MUFE full coverage concealer because it's the only one that hasn't broken me out over the years.

Lastly, you want to get a good, gentle makeup remover for your foundation. Regular acne facewash isn't going to get all that foundation off, and it's only going to make your acne worse. Clarisonics are probably only gonna irritate any active acne and make it really painful. I like to use konjac sponges right now with the philsophy makeup removing face wash to take off my makeup because it really gently scrubs at my makeup. You can also try cleansing oils, but they tend to break out my face since they always tend to leave residue on my face, and cleansing wipes are incredibly drying and full of irritating ingredients for my acne.

Acne sucks like no other for the self esteem, but I know we will both get through this. <3

Hm well on the off day I usually use Burts Bees Orange Essence. The recent secret I've added to my shower routine though that I think has made a big impact is my konjac sponge.

I scrub my cleanser with that sponge and after my showers my face always feels really smooth. Its so gentle too I don't worry about over-exfoliating and I feel I benefit from a little bit of physical exfoliation since I'm using an AHA/PocketDerm...

u/friendlypegasus · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I would definitely take the advice of the person before me, and consider using Stridex (which is a BHA). My boyfriend had similar issues and this is what he does...

Mineral cleanse with baby oil. You can find more information about mineral oil cleansing on the sidebar, but basically you'll just rub it all over your face in circles, and within a few uses you'll begin to either feel "grit" in your fingers, or you'll notice a change in your skin.

Next, he washes his face with First Aid Beauty cleanser or a Mario Badescu cleanser. You can find all of his cleansers with descriptions here, or at Ulta.

Next, he uses a konjac sponge, which gently exfoliates your face. The addition of a konjac sponge has completely changed both his and my skin! You can find them cheaper on amazon and elsewhere, but the one I linked is the most well-known brand, but not the one I have. I have a red one. Red ones are meant for people without any skin issues, and just looking for a gentle exfoliant. You can find more information about which sponge you should use here.

Next, he exfoliates. Currently he uses Biore pore unclogging scrub and he seems to like it. I personally use LUSH Angels on Bare Skin which is really amazing and he loves to steal it whenever he can.. hahah

After the shower, he uses Stridex pads which are SO CHEAP and work great. So many people on this thread swear by them. Him and I use the blue box, because our skin is sensitive. But if yours isn't then red box will be fine.

Finally, we both use a moisturizer. Currently we use this one which is amazing, but it depends on your skin type.

Also, I recommend you use a redness night mask cream for the redness. Eucerin's anti-redness night cream is easily the best product on the market for redness issues.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions. :)

Seriously, /r/AsianBeauty saved my skin.

I wash my face with Cosrx Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Foam Cleanser in conjuction with something called a Konjac sponge and then I follow up with the Cosrx AHA after. Then as a moisturizer -particularly under makeup- I use their Snail Mucen product. Also, sunscreen is super critical, it helps prevent your hyperpigmentation spots from getting darker. I'm not a fan of the western sunscreens, so I use Shiseido brand. The smell is different than the regular stuff we're used to but it's not unpleasant. And there's no need to buy the more expensive stuff, this works out really well.

The facewash I use has a slightly high pH level, and it's okay for me because I immediately put on the AHA after because it somehow cuts down the pH level. This lower pH face wash is what my daughter uses, and it does a good job, she started using it and the breakouts pretty much stopped, although she's apparently prone to blackheads on her nose so I got some BHA product for her, and I also got her a konjac sponge as well, so hopefully it provides her with some results. The sponge is super soft, but it does a surprisingly good job of exfoliating; without that feeling of scrubbing your skin with sandpaper. Heads up, with the konjac sponge there's lots of different ones out there and they pretty much work all the same; even the cheaper ones.

If you're gonna try exploring and experimenting with other products, be sure to try one product at a time, to make sure you don't have a reaction to it! Of course you probably already knew that, but I figured I'd throw that out there in case you didn't.

u/andgiveayeLL · 2 pointsr/eczema

Get yourself one of these and use it in the shower (thoroughly soak the sponge). Replace the sponge monthly to lower any risks of infection. It's a very gentle way to physically exfoliate.

u/pommeraie · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I have a few questions about adding stuff to my routine!

  • For the AM, I want to try using just a konjac sponge instead of cleanser. I tried going with just a rinse of water, but my skin needs a little bit of something more in the morning. I'm thinking about going for this one from Amazon.
Is a konjac sponge something that I need to test patch? Or is it more like a washcloth/exfoliating brush type thing?

  • What exactly is the relationship between vitamin C serums and photosensitivity? I've read that vitamin C makes your skin more sensitive to the sun, but I've also read that people like using it in the morning because it boosts the efficacy of sunscreen.
u/cutestslothevr · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

I like my unpowered silicone scrubber the most. ILil'Scrubies are easy to clean, store and are super cheap. Konjac sponges foam cleanser better, but require more upkeep.

I have one of the round tube things you linked in your post, and it is awful. I don't understand how anyone can use them!

Do you mean a konnyaku sponge?

u/pencilears · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

stand up/squat leaning forwards, then I bring my arm around behind my leg then pull backwards so that I'm wiping from from anterior to posterior.

I prefer standing because quite frankly I'd rather not get a handful of toilet water (seriously, I don't understand sitting while you wipe.) and I also like the ease of access afforded by standing.

I tend to use a moderate amount of paper wadded into something that resembles one of those shower-poofs, with the aforementioned continuous swipe motion, if I have pooped I will apply some extra pressure and care when I get to the anus so as to get any stray poop particles.

u/albeaner · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

No problem! It's [these}(https://www.amazon.com/Buf-Puf-Double-Sided-Body-Sponge-Pack/dp/B001EJOPTS/ref=lp_11056551_1_22_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1493756940&sr=1-22).

I want to say it was probably after 2-3 uses? Not much! Sometimes I use it every 3-4 days, so sure you can do it more often, as much as your skin tolerates! I wring it out completely and let it dry between showers. Once it starts getting flat/pilled then I throw it out and get a new one.

They're better than the sea sponges some people use.

Yes, seriously

u/annaqua · 2 pointsr/Frugal

I mentioned this above: baking soda has a very alkaline pH (~9) and can reallllly mess up your skin's acid mantle (which has a pH of around a 5 or slightly lower). Try switching to something more gentle/pH-friendly! In the long run you're ultimately damaging your skin and destroying your skin's natural, healthy protection barrier!

It may be the exfoliation that helped with breakouts. Try using something gentle (but still exfoliating) like a konjac sponge! They have a charcoal-infused one that can definitely help with acne.

I usually use my index and middle fingers from both hands and kind of rub up and down or in circles. Or I use one of these silicone scrubber things and just kind of smoosh it around gently.

u/bluebuckeye · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Maybe try a konjac sponge to (gently!) physically exfoliate. Also, is your night moisturizer a humectant? If not, I've found using a bit of Vaseline or Aquaphor after my moisturizer kept my face from getting dry patches and helps me not looks scaly when using foundation.

Thoughts:

• You may have hormonal acne.
• It’s not recommended to do an AHA in the morning (because it increases sun sensitivity).
• If you are not already, consider doing AHA and BHA on separate days.
• Consider changing your konjac sponge type. This Bamboo Charcoal has been said to be good for your skin type.
• Consider replacing your konjac sponge in general, if you’ve been using it for more than 2.5 months.
• Consider switching to a non-foaming salicylic acid face wash in the evenings. (Part 2 of double cleansing)
• You may want to add a snail mucin ampoule (toner -> serum -> ampoule -> cream) to promote healing.
• Consider using CeraVe salicylic moisturizing lotion on your back to help with body acne.

I usually stop around 3-4:00 PM and figure out where I want to stop that night, then call ahead if I'm getting a hotel room and make a reservation somewhere. You can also read-up on camping on BLM or NFS lands, either campgrounds or remote. State parks also may have campgrounds.

I carry a tire plug kit. This will save you massive amounts of time if you get a flat in a remote area. Watch a few youtube videos if you've never used one and you should be fine.

I also carry a small 12v cigarette-lighter-powered air compressor for reinflating the tire, and a tire pressure gauge because I don't trust the ones on the cheap pumps.

If you are going to travel through remote areas in the west always carry some food and water.

Buy one of those sponges with the nylon netting on the outside or a loofah or one of these. You'll probably want to clean the windshield of dead bugs more often than just when you get gas. Bring a jug of water to assist. Carry an extra jug of wiper fluid.

Research the historical day/night temperatures if you will be traveling in the inter-mountain west. It can actually get quite cold at night if you're camping. Pack appropriate clothing. Monsoon season in the desert southwest can go to early October. Assume you might get rained-on a bit.

Check state DOT websites for conditions ahead at high mountain passes in the Rockies and the Sierras. Some of them start closing due to snow by mid-September.

If you are going to more than two or three national parks buy the annual pass for $80 at the first park you go to. It will pay for itself several times over.

IMHO carrying a bunch of spare parts or tools is overkill but a spare headlamp bulb and a package of assorted zip ties aren't a bad investment. Make sure your brakes are in good condition before you leave if you are driving in mountain areas.

I carry a paper road atlas as I find it useful for longer-distance planning than zooming in/out on an ipad or phone. You can get Rand McNally Road atlasses near the checkouts at a lot of Walmarts.

You'll find that the octane levels of gasoline sold at high altitudes is a few points lower than at sea level. Using 85 octane in a car that usually uses 87 is fine, etc.. Pay attention to the labeling on the pumps elsewhere. At certain places in the Midwest gas stations sell high-ethanol mixes that are inappropriate for non flex-fuel cars. They will still sell the regular stuff, just pay attention to the labels.

Know that this sign means that you can come upon cows standing in the road at any time. Avoid driving these roads at night, or at least keep the speed down and be prepared.

I usually just use one of those exfoliating pads you can get from the drugstore, like this one. They seem to work better than exfoliating cleansers imo.

Do you think a konjac sponge would be comparable to a natural fiber loofah sponge like this one or is there something about the texture that is special?

I just recently realized that I actually have the plant that produces the natural fiber loofah sponges in my backyard, so I tried one out yesterday! Should I get a konjac plant too? :P

u/mich1331 · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Sounds a lot like me. I had horrible reaction to everything. OCM with mineral oil gave me the worst, most painful pimples. I did this about two months ago and my skin is still healing.

I would never put cerave tub lotion on my face, but their PM lotion works well for me, it's a lot lighter and gentler.

For cleansing I use the Konjac Sponge. No chemicals, just a light physical exfoliation that works very very well for me. I do it every night and it's amazing.

I don't have any other suggestions, I'm still trying to figure my routine out, but with what I'm doing now (Konjac and Cerave PM in the evenings) my skins much healthier, I get a pimple here and there, but it's mostly good.

  • Going to start using the Mizon serum at night (holding off on sleep mask, Aquaphor has been working well for me).
  • Maybe start using toner every evening too? Any thoughts?

I love these jelly pads! I got one through Memebox awhile ago and have to force myself not to use it every day, twice daily because is feels so nice! The strength of the cleaning depends on the pressure you put on it, it rinses clean in a flash, and doesn't take ages to dry like a regular pore brush does. I noticed a reduction of blackheads and cc's after a week, though I've scaled back my usage to every other day... I've been reading too many horror stories on here of over-exfoliation and weakened acid mantles :( Amazon has a pack of 2 for less than $2.50.

You need a cleanser. I have had this issue for ever, I'm 22 now and this issue was worse with catridge razors for me.

Essentially, my face is extremely sensitive (like many) below the chin. It is there that irritation is most likely and will cause these whiteheads to pop up.

The way I shaved was only half the problem. Before switching to DE shaving I figured it was just a skin issue. As such I tried numerous ways to clean my face, as well as ways to get rid of acne. The answer was never an acne solution, rather it was finding the right way to clean my face.

Since my face is sensitive, I cannot use things like washcloths or pads. These are too abrasive and exacerbate my redness and dryness. Instead I use a [Konjac Sponge] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JL2TURM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01) with activated charcoal as my cleansing pad.

Then I needed to find the right cleanser. I cannot use anything with abrasive beads, or products that are too drying. The cleanser that has worked fantastically for me, but is a little pricey, is Ursa Major Fantastic. It is non drying, all natural ingredients and leaves my face looking really clean as well as feeling cool and not dried out.

This cleanser improved the issue SUBSTANTIALLY. Soon after discovering this cleanser I decided to switch to DE. Now, I am able to perform a 2-3 pass shave with my Parker 24C, The Blades Grim Satin Tipped Brush, and soap of choice with little irritation. I follow this up with a cleanse, aftershave, and then a balm.

Hope this helps.

I really like Cure Natural Aqua Gel as an exfoliator. It's great for sensitive/dry skin, but I find it works best when my skin is bone-dry, before any cleansing whatsoever. I also like using my second cleanser with a konjac sponge, which also works for exfoliation.

u/redrose10 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

What I did to clear my back:

  1. Changed shampoo to a more natural formula without SLS.(If you have a Trader Joe's near your area I suggest you check there they have pretty ideal shampoos that are most likely free of chemicals, just make sure it isn't anything like coconut oil or something that can cause breakouts.)

  2. In the shower I use the Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash with a konjac sponge which provides very gentle exfoliation that could help in reducing acne breakouts. Now I make sure this is the last step I do in the shower to ensure that none of my shampoo residue is left on my skin. If you are not very familiar with how konjac sponges work it is basically a sponge that is "hard" when dry, but once it is soaked in water it turns soft almost "mushy" which is the state you would use it in. Basically you add a bit of your cleanser to the sponge, foam it a bit, and rub it gently on your back. Then when you finish using it you rinse the cleanser and water out of the sponge, hang it up somewhere dry so the sponge itself could dry, and it will actually go back to its initial state of dry "hard", which by the way makes it antibacterial. And so the process repeats when you put water on it again.

  3. Once out of the shower Stridex! These really helped a lot and they are so convenient and easy to use you can't go wrong. After, patting your back dry just swipe a stridex pad all over and your good to go. Stridex

  4. Another tip would be to consider changing your laundry detergent to something more gentle and free of chemicals that can sometimes irritate your skin and cause breakouts. I recommend this brand detergent they even have mighty pacs which those are the ones I use. Also, you might want to avoid fabric softeners with a lot of fragrance (I personally do not even add any to my clothes as I feel it doesn't make a major difference), but if you feel the need to I am sure that same brand carries some.

  5. Also, try to change your pillow/slash bed sheets more often. Point is try to ensure the area where you rest you back at night is clean. Either by sleeping with a clean shirt on everyday or something. I actually take a thin light blanket and fold it, then every night I refold it to get another area of the blanket that is clean, and I usually wash this once a week to ensure that it actually remains clean.

  6. Maybe cut back on dairy a bit, if you consume too much. If not, then maybe that isn't really a problem.

And that is how I cleared my back fairly well. It may seem like a lot, but it's really not haha. Good luck!

I get tiny blemishes on my chest and the use of a konjac sponge in the shower has helped (I use this one). It provides mild exfoliation and helps decrease oil. I would also suggest that you use a BHA or AHA product on your back and chest. Stridex in the red box is an easy-to-use and commonly recommended product. Use it after showering on dry skin.

Your face looks pretty good! I can't tell if you're asking for advice, but you could probably use the Stridex on your face, too. Possible face routine:

AM

  • CeraVe Foaming Cleanser
  • Moisturizer
  • Sunscreen

    PM/After workouts

  • CeraVe Foaming Cleanser
  • Stridex
  • Moisturizer

If your skin starts getting dried out from the Stridex, you could skip cleansing in the morning (just splash with water). Vaseline for dry skin is also great; apply on top of your moisturizer at night. And if you need moisturizer recommendations, I love Nivea Creme -- cheap and very moisturizing!

Honestly, I just bought this one because it comes with a plastic hook and it was on a flash sale. I don't know if this is life changing, but it hasn't broke me out. I'm honestly not sure if it's any different from the cheap $1 ones on eBay or any of the other ones on the market.

I prefer the charcoal because I feel like the white ones you can see the 'yuck'. I also like the circle shape compared to the teardrop shape. I have a better grip with the circle shape. I also feel the teardrop is too flat for my liking.

Honestly, the best trick is to make sure it's well wet before using. I keep one of those cheap containers, add some water and let it soak before using.

u/comfort_fiend · 1 pointr/hapas

I think you need to revamp your entire skin routine to resolve this. Rule #1, be gentle, not only in exfoliation methods whether those be physical or chemical, but also you should pay attention to the chemicals you are putting on your face (ie products that are conflicting each other and if anything you're putting on your face is even what you need).
I would suggest washing with CeraVe for dry skin (it's inexpensive, super gentle, feels great!). Use a Konjac sponge if you don't have a Clarisonic (if you do use a Clarisonic only use the softest level of brush head and maybe only do it once a day properly meaning use a lot of water and plenty of cleanser to get the proper slip going on to not over aggravate your skin).
Only use mildly warm water, never hot, do not ever scrub your skin. Just gently exfoliate if doing physical exfoliation. You will need to do some form of gentle exfolation to remove the dead skin regularly.
If you wear make up start doing double oil cleansing. If you do not wear make up just ignore this sentence lol.
When you're done washing your face if you're going to bed: get an antioxidant serum to help support your skin, then layer a very good moisturizer, and then a "sealer" so a face cream that works that's heavier on top of that, maybe even add a few drops of oil to your final cream layer.

Go to bed: wake up, wash gently, pat dry, anti oxidant serum, daytime SPF at least 20 or more. If you find your SPF is too drying then you need to search for one that has some oil in it probably. I suggest using Supergoop Mineral for that.

I know it sounds like a lot but it really isn't. The main thing is just getting your products lined up and then wash/dry/apply. It just takes a few minutes, I promise, and your skin will look amazing.

If your skin can tolerate it- I'd try adding some AHA's to your routine also like a glycolic acid treatment a few times a week.

Congrats on your baby on the way! I have oily/combo skin with some redness too, so I have a couple suggestions you might like.

Avene thermal spring water spray - Can't live without it. The mist is super fine, it's great for summer, and it really does calm things down. I also like giving my skin a light spritz of it before applying moisturizer.

EltaMD AM Therapy moisturizer. The caffeine and the niacinamide reduce a lot of my redness and the texture is just wonderful. It works beautifully under makeup and sunscreen as well, imo. The PM version of this moisturizer is quite nice too.

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume - I apply this in the evening to my cheeks (where most of my redness occurs) over my EltaMD moisturizer. A little goes a long ways and it's very soothing and reparative.

As far as cleansers go, I've been really liking the Milky Jelly cleanser from Glossier. It's ultra gentle, with a low ph. In the morning I spray my face with the Avene Thermal Spring water, work the cleanser in and then rinse. For evenings I use Cerave foaming cleanser, which is formulated for our skin type and is fragrance-free.

It's always possible the Clarisonic is adding to your redness. You know your skin better than I do of course, but it couldn't hurt to try something a bit more gentle for exfoliation, like a konjac sponge just to see. I found the Clarisonic a bit too rough for my sensitive skin but the konjac sponge isn't abrasive and gets the job done when I need it.

If you wear makeup, a color correcting primer under your foundation can certainly help as well. This goes without saying, but make sure you don't introduce a bunch of new products all at the same time as it will be impossible to know what's helping or possibly irritating your skin without having to start all over. And sunscreen, never forget sunscreen.

>Hey guys! I realized today that a lot of women are not aware of sea sponge tampons. I used to pretty much "opt out" of sex during my period, because it was too messy and too much of a hassle, even when I felt really horny.
>
>Sea sponges rest against the cervix, so they absorb everything before it reaches the vaginal canal (which is where a cotton tampon would be inserted.)
>
>Because they are spongey and absorbent, you can have sex with the sponge in, and your partner will not feel any difference! I prefer these to Softcups because the cups are made of plastic, and while they do a good job of holding back the flow, they can be felt by your partner. Some women even use sea sponges for contraception, by pairing them with spermicide (your mileage may vary!)
>
>This is only a good option if you feel comfortable with your ladyparts, as you do need to push it in and pull it out. I use mine now instead of regular tampons, and I rinse them out every few hours as needed. I always rinse them out before sex to avoid any possible leaking. After each cycle, I soak the sponge in warm water and 5-10 drops of tea tree oil, rinse, and let dry for the next cycle! While on my period, I keep a spare cotton tampon and a plastic baggie to store the sponge in my purse, just in case I find myself in a situation where rinsing the sponge every 3-4 hours is difficult, or if my flow is very heavy.
>
>If you take proper care of your sponges, each one should last you about six months.
>
>Also, the link I provided was for a brand name of sea sponge tampons-- these are nice because they are already the right size, and they come with a carrying bag, but you can always buy a large sea sponge and cut it up yourself to save money! Just make sure it is a natural sea sponge.
>
>I hope this information is useful to some of you out there!
>
>EDIT: Here is a cheaper option for the frugal-minded! I haven't used these ones personally, but some of the reviews indicate that they work well as tampons. I liked having the Jade & Pearl set for my first time, because it comes with instructions/tips and a carry bag, but if you don't care about that, save yourself some money!

No one has mentioned sea sponge tampons yet--no string and they're great.

u/Malibu_Barbie · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

> how are sea sponge tampons different from the normal ones?

They are made of natural sponge that is just cut to a shape that fits inside the vagina. They are softer and gentler than cotton tampons. There is no applicator or string, though, so you have to get your fingers involved in insertion and extraction. Since you use cups that wouldn't bother you. Also, the sponge has a lot more "give" in it than a regular tampon. You couldn't have intercourse with a regular tampon, but the sponge just gets squished up and over during PIV, so everything stays tidy. Also, sponges are washable and reusable unlike regular tampons. Here's a link to an amazon page with sponges.

Your comments on the BHA liquid made me very tempted to try it out myself! Oil cleansing does help me out in getting rid of blackhead and sebaceous filaments, but it's only temporary as they're back by the next day, though the size of my pores are much better compared to before I was using it. Maybe the BHA liquid will be the one that will finally get rid of them 8)

Just wondering, are these the sponges you were talking about? Are they the same as konjac sponges? I heard they might help with mild physical exfoliation due to the rubbing motion, so maybe that's what helps in keeping the pores clean.

Do waterproof sunscreens feel any different compared to non-waterproof ones? I think the ones I've tried (and use) are mostly not waterproof, so I was looking for a waterproof one in case I go swimming or running. The waterproof sunscreen I'm currently using is the Elta MD Pure 47 (non AB), but it leaves me looking like a ghost and the smell isn't very pleasant. It's a mineral sunscreen, so it's also pretty drying.

So far, I've been using mineral sunscreens that are more resistant in nature compared to chemical sunscreens, but they still get removed by the sweat. The only problem with mineral sunscreens is the white cast they have, so waterproof chemical sunscreens might be ideal if your skin could tolerate the chemical filters.

People do call them that sometimes, but they are more properly termed poufs or puffs, to avoid confusion with the more abrasive natural loofah. Natural loofahs are made from the luffa plant and generally look something like this, this or this (they can make them in pretty much whatever shape) and they have a coarse texture designed to exfoliate (remove dead skin cells). Bath/shower puffs/poufs/poofs (however you want to spell it) on the other hand are generally made of synthetic fibers (usually nylon) and are much softer and easier on the skin, more suited for regular washing. Bottom line, a bath puff on your vajayjay wouldn't be so bad, but a natural loofah would probably hurt.

I'm going to suggest buying yourself a charcoal Konjac sponge (I prefer Pure Sol), and the Cerave Foaming Cleanser. At night, I use makeup towelettes to remove my waterproof mascara/eye makeup (I'm not a fan of using oil or liquid based makeup removers on my eyes, so the towelettes work just fine for me), then I cleanse with those two. After that, I just do my normal moisturizing routine. Oh, and I'm combo, too! Hope that helps. :]

You looked best in the last picture. You look a ton better there than in the pics with the suits. If you showed me only the last pic I would say you were cute and even consider dating you. I think the main difference is your skin, hair, and jawline. In the last pic your skin looks clearer, your hair is a more flattering length/style, and you appear to have a decent chin and jaw.

The longer hair looks really awful because it makes your head look like a weird shape and your curl pattern in general is not great for that length. Try a shorter look that still gives you a little wave because I think the messiness of it is cute on you.

If you haven't already I would really see someone about your skin. It takes away from the rest of your face and makes you seem younger. Rather than blemishes, it seems like most of the redness can be attributed to hyperpigmentation. Luckily, there's a bunch of things you can do for that. Exfoliation and sunscreen work the best. Double up on exfoliation with a chemical and physical exfoliant. An example of a chemical exfoliant would be an AHA such a salicylic acid. Neutrogena's Rapid Treatment acne pads work better than Stridex in my opinion. You can pair it with a physical exfoliant like a konjac sponge which you order online at amazon. These are the best quality I can find. Wearing a sunscreen every day will help your new skin (scarring) from becoming darker and turning into the red spots you see afterward.

Idk what to think about the glasses. Some pics they look crooked and too wide for your face but they look fine in the last pic. Maybe when your prescription needs updating consider getting a frame more suited to your face shape.

I swear by these! They’re gentle but they get in there and remove makeup/dirt effectively. They’re reusable and easy to clean too!

I have very sensitive and acne prone skin and swear by konjac sponges. Gentle enough to exfoliate daily and not cause my skin to freak out.

I bought the Superdrug one! Gah Reddit is such an enabler. It's very dense compared to this one I bought before. The shape makes it rather more difficult to use but so far it's okkkk. Mine is still damp after 18 hours, probably because it's so dense. It's quite hard to get all my cleanser out is well... :/

Oooooh! I have this amazing problem too! Isn't it the best? :)

The three (four?) things I've found that helped me the most (and trust me I've tried SO MANY) are this Cerave bodywash scrubbed on using this scrubbie, followed after shower/bath with this aftershave and then this lotion after you give the aftershave time to air dry. I can also tell you that I've used that Buf Puf for probably a decade now and that alone doesn't do the trick. It wasn't until I got the other 3 products that I noticed a significant difference. Sadly, I started using all 3 at the exact same time, so I'm not sure which of the 3 are most helpful if you wanted to start slow and try one at a time.

I can tell you that shaving cream doesn't do anything for me in helping to prevent. And I've tried this after-shave powder and found it to be nice but not helpful for what I need. I sweat too much for a light powder to help with anything!

Edit: Just a side note - that Cerave lotion burns when you apply it right after shaving. I still do it and the burning stops after a second, but wanted to give fair warning!

If you're in the US, you have a plethora of choices on Amazon. This is the set I bought most recently. They do wear down over time, but you can get many, many uses out of them. Just make sure to put them somewhere they can dry completely after use.

I would not suggest PC for this, their BHA/AHA is very low percentage, and also very expensive considering the low content levels.

I would suggest going Asian Beauty on this one.

Would you like an AB product recommendation? (I can find one that's available on Amazon so you don't have to wait for foreign shipping)

Also I would suggest exfoliating with a Konjac sponge (or Jeju sponge, it's the same thing) 3 months worth of sponges for $16

I'v used natural loofahs in the past and they are definitely great exfoliators. I've seen them pretty cheap at natural food stores and there's a 3pc set on Amazon (Add-On) for less than $8 here. :)

Try sea sponge tampons(which are reusable) or soft tampons (which are a type of sponge anyway) if you can find some. (Depending on where you live, you can get sea sponge tampons on amazon)

They don't have to go up near your cervix like the softcut does, and they can be cut smaller so you don't need to find that 'invisible sweet spot' that is required for comfortable tampon use.

It's not as fun as pads, but if you are enjoying the pool party you wont notice you have one in.

I have vulvodynia and hypertonic pelvic floor (which is very similar to vaginismus, except it effects the urethra and anus too) and I use sponge tampons when I need to be swimming or whatever.

Keep in mind what others have said about physical therapy, even though you can't access it now, start looking up professionals in your area that do it, good ones can be hard to find. If you are really struggling you can start off at home, If you are in the US vaginismus.com sells a 'self care kit' they may be of use. I personally preffer the Femmax kit But it doesn't come with the books and DVD's which you will need if you don't have a physiotherapist helping you out.
