What is your solution for the shower hair? I've just been draino blasting it when it gets clogged.
Edit: Wow I have a lot of replies!
Here are the top suggestions:
It's called a Tub Shroom. It works very well. Though the hair is rather gross after collecting other dirt and soap and stuff, I would never clean it off with my bare fingers. Use a tissue for god's sake!
This changed my life! https://www.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B01BYMTYBS
This guy was worth every penny. It just doesn't work well if you take a lot of baths. Showers only and it's amazing.
Edit: Linked the proper tub product and not the sink thanks to /u/2muchCoding
The one you linked is for sinks whereas this one is for tubs. Either way, +1 for those things as someone with mid back length curly hair!
https://www.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B076FBJCNB/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1543178415&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=tubshroom&dpPl=1&dpID=51Yw%2BGuxJFL&ref=plSrch
I saw ads for it somewhere, and it seemed gimmicky but they do work! I have one in the shower and the bathroom sink since neither of them had drain plugs when we moved in.
Thank you! The shower floor, so far has been easy to clean but we've only been using it for 3 weeks. I use a daily shower spray several times a week.
The drain cover pops right out and I use a rubber hair catcher TubShroom, inside the drain, which makes cleaning easy and keeps the unsightly mess of the drain hidden from view.
YES. That's why I got a tub shroom. My husband was always so frustrated with my hair monsters on the walls (because I'd always forget to clean them......................) so I got one of these badboys. https://www.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B01BYMTYBS?th=1
AND IT WORKS. :D
Just get one of these shower drain hair catcher things and throw away the trapped hair when you're done showering.
I use this to save my pipes from my hair.
I highly recommend using a tub shroom to help stop prevent clogs in the first place.
Bingo. If OP has to use it every month it means there’s a major clog and drano is doing nothing more than eating a tiny hole through it to clear it up briefly. There are also some plumbers that believe extensive drano use can damage your pipes long term.
Get a plumber out that can clear it out completely. And get yourself a drain catch like the tub shroom.
http://www.amazon.com/Hair-Stopper-Drain-Protector-Strainer/dp/B003B02L2G
I've used both depending on the application. Sucking seems to work quite well. Again, make sure you plug the overflow also. They actually make an attachment specifically for this purpose, but I have just used the hose beofre with good results.
Disclaimer: BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE ALREADY USED CHEMICALS FOR THE CLOG. You don't want that crap splashing all over the place or getting on you.
> drain clogs.
Tub Shroom, my friend. I have about four heads of hair on my one head and the tub shroom is the one thing that has actually, truly protected my drain from monthly full-on clogs.
We use a drain protector over ours that’s easy to clean. Won’t help with soap buildup but will prevent hair from going down the drain. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003M8GMUY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JDIBDb6N5DH3X
The Tub Shroom! It collects hair at the drain of the shower which reduces drain plugs. My fiancée has butt length hair and this thing has been a worth every penny! We have to remove the hair from this thing at least once a week.
Tub Shroom Canada
Tub Shroom USA
>every 4-6 months
If you're doing it that often, consider a device to catch hair before it goes in the drain.
I'm Iranian and also removed the metal cover but it was a temporary fix before I ran into other issues. Went on Amazon and picked this up and it's honestly been the best $13 I ever spent. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01BYMTYBS/

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003M8GMUY/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1367413462&sr=8-1&pi=SL75 this is the one we use.
https://www.amazon.com/Danco-10306-Microban-Catcher-White/dp/B004L04X5S/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1498182925&sr=8-6&keywords=shower+hair+catcher
My husband shaved over a dirty tshirt and shakes the excess into the toilet when he’s done before throwing back in the hamper. Seems like a good system
This hair drain catcher was on Shark Tank and seems like it has a lot of good reviews. Or there’s a bunch of other kinds that go on top of the drain. They’re all pretty inexpensive <$10-20
If you can reach the drain with a garden hose, these are great. I haven't needed chemicals in 20+ years.
https://www.amazon.com/G-T-Water-Products-186-Attachment/dp/B0000CBIWC/
In the meantime, simply putting the hose down the drain and stuffing and holding a small towel around it will often help. The drain king is nice as it is easier with one person and does a bit higher pressure.
But, you could, for instance protect multiple drains with one trap in the distance (potentially shared with a location that actually drains water regularly.
You could have a drop gate.
There's a product nominally for "clearing clogs" that's fundamentally a [water wheel inside the pipe] (https://www.amazon.com/PF-WaterWorks-PermaFLOW-Transparent-reducing/dp/B0021L9BXS) if you had such a water wheel deep enough, it could be turned by the weight of the water. The downside is you'd wear the gaskets and whatever it spins on eventually and you'd have less flow or a bulge at that point.
Wash your face every night before you go to bed with a facial cleanser. Or morning if you work night shifts.
Use moisturizer. Also use beard oil if you have a beard. Yeah, the rugged look is sexy, but dry hands and face are not.
Silk pillowcases are better than cotton for your skin and hair.
Wash your bedding items at least monthly. And if you wear hats a lot, wash them too.
You can use the skin treatments in the makeup aisle (anti-wrinkle cream, creams that reduce under eye bags and darkness, etc). It;s better to start using them when your younger and the wrinkles haven't formed than waiting until you look like Farnsworth.
Brush your teeth.
Drink lots of water.
Cut down on junk food being overweight, smoking, and excess drinking. Not only are they bad for your health, but they age you like crazy.
Use sunscreen!
Workout.
Exfoliate your body and use body wash.
Take care of your hands and nails. Keep them trimmed, cleaned underneath the nails, and use moisturizer. Same with your feet. You can even buy something like the Amope or a pumice stone for dry heels and calluses on feet.
I like a guy with a natural forest, but if you want to shave your pubes:
Oh yeah, if you do that in the shower, it's a good idea to have one of these. It'll be easier to clean up after yourself and you won't clog the drains. If you have a anyone with long hair in your house or using your shower, you should already have one in every shower they have access to.
Visit a doctor or research for yourself, but basically:
Change up lifestyle (diet, working out)
Try rogaine,* minoxidill or other supps
If it doesn't work = buzzcut, grow beard get buff.
Try a hair catcher in the shower to monitor what works what doesn't.
https://www.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B01BYMTYBS
You need this.
Trust me.
i use a bobby pin to get under all of the hair so i can pull it off with my hands. i also frequently boil it to get rid of product buildup.
if you think the hair in your hairbrush is gross, please invest in a hair catcher for the shower drain.
No no no, I mean mushroom. Well, Tubshroom
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BYRMGCC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
These things are fucking gold. You put just the bottom part in the drain. Don't push in all the way. Just the tip...(base)
Ive spent a ridiculous amount of time finding solutions to guest related problems over the last 8 years. This is something I would highly recommend in all airbnbs.
Real talk.
Not a plumber but I've had good luck with these:
Evriholder HS Hair Stopper Bath Strainer, Pack of 2 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003B02L2G/
For the tub, unscrew the existing metal drain stopper, poke a hole in the bottom of these plastic things and it'll prevent 99% of the hair from going in to your drain.
It has little plastic spikes that catch the hairs and you just clean that thing off occasionally.
Sink backing up I have no good advice.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Zip-It-Bath-and-Sink-Hair-Snare-BC00400/100665735 - get a couple, the teeth break. It's probably just hair if that's the only drain clogged.
https://www.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B01BYMTYBS/ref=sr_1_3/136-9117488-8114928?ie=UTF8&qid=1535998926&sr=8-3&keywords=tub+mushroom - for prevention
If you suffer from long hair clogging up the shower drain, get a tub shroom. Best investment ever.
Edit: This thing
They also have ones for stand up showers, and sinks as well. I was skeptical but I've used one for months and it's amazing.

>Have you experienced multiple sheds while on treatment?
Yes. I still get at least 1 or 2 sheds a year. Stressed me out majorly the first few times, but now I just roll with the punches.
> How much hair do you usually use in the shower?
I use a hair catch like this one. It's not an exact science, but it gives me a good idea of the hair that's shed while showering. I'd say that it's a pinch of hair about every shower, but prior to Fin/Rogain/Niz I was slowing down the drain of water on those standard silver catches that has large holes in it.
Or get a tub strainer!
We have a hair stopper. It works pretty well. I used to have to use some sort of un clogging liquid at least once a month before this. We bought it cheaper at Walmart though. Definitely saves you money in the long run.
Kanaldeckel = manhole cover so not really what you are looking for :-)
What you are looking for is an Abflusssieb (literal translation = drain sieve). You can get it here for example https://www.amazon.de/OXO-Good-Grips-1395500-Badewannen-Abflusssieb/dp/B00EU6HB9S/ref=pd_sim_201_4
If you are looking for a brick and mortar store a Baumarkt (Obi, Hornbach, etc.) are a good bet.
the top part you see here threads to a "nut" on the underside of the tub. with all that rust it might be difficult to get off, but you would just unscrew it (lefty-loosy). here's a pic: https://bathrenovationhq.com/wp-content/uploads/bathtub-drain-removal-2.jpg to give you an idea of what you're looking at.
for an easy fix, they make replacement drains that fit in what you have left: https://www.amazon.com/Recyclable-Snug-Plug-Drain-Stopper/dp/B003151V3Q. also might want to invest in a strainer like this so you catch the hair before it clogs.
OXO Good Grips Silicone Drain Protector for Pop-Up & Regular Drains https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OCEBMFM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_3uhzzbSANZVW9
And if you prefer gagging...

TubShroom.
Get a TUBSHROOM https://www.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B01BYRMGCC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1527410430&sr=8-3&keywords=tubshroom it will save you the headache
You might want to pick up one of these.
There's a thing called a tubshroom and it collects hair while allowing the water to drain. You take it out after and clean it, mega easily.
TubShroom the Revolutionary Tub Drain Protector Hair Catcher/Strainer/Snare, Gray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0H7YC2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_jv4JDbXH507NC $12.99 on Amazon
You need to get a hair catcher. There are lots of them. You can even wait till it's dry to clear it making the clearing process less gross. Here is one:
https://www.amazon.com/LEKEYE-Catcher-Strainer-Stainless-Silicone/dp/B06W2MPGZV
Hair catcher. No more clogged shower drain.
Could just stick one of these over it: https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Grips-Clean-Shower-Protector/dp/B003M8GMUY/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1475260091&sr=8-12&keywords=drain+hair
There are other solutions, I just searched 'drain hair' on amazon.
If you want to do things in the sink get one of these. Sized for whatever drain you have of course.
you could get one of these drain protector thingies
Drano won't do diddly on lots of hair. My hair goes down past my waist, I've had to fix clogged drains for years. Try using a drain trap to catch hair. We have one of those types of drains that you push in the plug to fill the tub so we're using one of these and it fits over the drain, but there's lots of different kinds. That particular one doesn't have adhesive or anything to ruin the tub, and unless your tub drains really slow it won't float away while you shower. Haven't had clogged drains since (but the dog loves to snatch it from the tub and play with it, but that's besides the point).
You will definitely need a hair drain trap.
It'll save you big from having to clean out your shower drain from all the nasty hair! Or even worse paying someone big bucks to come over abd unclog it for you.
Not very fun, but definitely practical!
Thanks for the contest!

I bought this for my girlfriends hair. Sits on top. No need to unscrew
OXO Good Grips Shower Stall Drain Protector https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003M8GMUY/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_-2VIub0MBGDCB
You're welcome. ; )
Danco, Inc. 9D00010306 Bathtub Hair Catcher Strainer & Snare, Drain, White
Or one of theseif you don't like being a plumber... they make different types for different drains.
try to keep as much of it as you can from going down, but for the ones that got away, try one of these
You pretty much lose around the same amount of hairs. Only difference is that you probably have short hair so you don't notice. When I had long hair that's when I realized it.
Best solution is to buy a different type of drain so the hair won't go down the drain.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00EU6HB9S/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1458801590&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=bathroom+hair+drain&dpPl=1&dpID=41Y2KIj0VbL&ref=plSrch&dpPl=1&dpID=41Y2KIj0VbL&ref=plSrch
There are many different types of styles
OXO Good Grips Silicone Drain Protector for Pop-Up & Regular Drains
drain protector
This might not be needed immediately after birth but a hair catcher for your shower. I found the hair loss frightening, but this saved my drain.
Other things:
Cases of water bottles, or a large reusable water bottle (or one for every room), whatever you’re in too. Got to keep hydrated, especially if you’re breastfeeding!
Snacks. All the snacks. In every room.
When my milk came it it came in crazy. I was wearing towels in my shirt over night for the leaking. You can get some cheap dish towels at the dollar store, and they also work great as burp cloths. The reusable and disposable breast pads are great as well but I loved stuffing a towel in when I was at home.
Stock up on soap, shampoo, etc. Like months of it because you don’t want to finally get into the shower and find out you don’t have conditioner. Speaking from experience. 😬
I second this. If your drain is a pop-up type they make ones that go over that too. If you go to Target sometimes they have ones with suction cups so they'll stay put better.
A shower curtain if you have the kind of tub/shower that needs one. Also get a hair stopper to prevent hair going down the drain! Something like this. If you have a tub and like baths I suggest a drain cover too to get an extra few inches of water/bubbles.
Enjoy your new house!
My girlfriend got us a TubShroom because I'm the same way about hair. It works surprisingly well, and cleaning it is just a quick swipe with a wad of toilet paper.
This works better than the ones that sit on top of the drain hole: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BYMTYBS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_0KiezbDRMGK9T
But she should empty it after each shower.
My mom's hair is about down to her waist and she's like 5'2", and the tubshroom takes care of hers.
www.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B01BYMTYBS
Some other places have them for 10 dollars, but amazon is the official online seller iirc.
I feel your pain. I want to share something with you though...... take a look at this, TubShroom The Revolutionary Tub Drain Protector Hair Catcher/Strainer/Snare, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BYMTYBS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_XozMzb3Y3BZCE. I purchased this on a whim thinking "ok, how much hair will it really catch?" I will tell you it is still nasty cleaning all of my wife's hair but this thing makes it so much easier and it does catch all the hair. I was to the point that I was about ready to start spraying her down with the hose outside instead of letting her into either one of our showers. This thing really helps and has allowed my wife to be able to shower in doors. Check it out.
Yah op take the initiative and buy a few yourself: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01BYMTYBS/
Here you go
I'd recommend this: TubShroom https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0H7YC2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_jzO1BbZZPAPBS
No strainer is perfect but my better half has long and thick hair. Her hair, as much as I love it, is everywhere in the house, including the drains. Got this a couple years ago and have been very happy. It needs to be cleaned off about once every couple weeks. If it is totally gummed up with hair it will allow the excess hair to go down the drain so be careful with that. The biggest plus on this item is that it is super easy to clean. It really does work like the product video says. A quick wipe with some toilet paper and into the trash. And you have a clean drain line.
Hair ties........hair ties fucking everywhere!!!!
We live different lifestyles too so I noticed a lot of plates and bowls left out after eating and it drove me crazy in the beginning but it's better now.
I learned women shed A LOT and I had to figure out a drain solution for the shower so it wouldn't keep getting clogged, if you need a real life saver my friend invest in this
https://www.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B01M0H7YC2/ref=sr_1_4?s=bedbath&ie=UTF8&qid=1539790290&sr=1-4&keywords=tubshroom&dpID=51sVQhklTuL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
It's fun though and it's nice having someone to come home too, enjoy the ride.

Travel deep into the Amazon, and get thyself a Magical Moat Mushroom. With such a fungus, the hair monsters will never take up residence in your moat again.
Yeah, I would pull the toilet. I am betting its beyond the toilet though. If it is, you can try one of these once you have the toilet pulled. They work like a champ and are cheaper than renting a snake.
Look at it this way, its an opportunity to replace the wax ring, re-caulk and replace the rusty nuts and bolts on the mounting flange.
You can fix this. Where do the drains come out? You said the previous owner did some landscaping and stupidly blocked the drains. You need to find where these drains were and unblock them. You're going to need a shovel and start digging. They likely just covered over them. Sounds like your neighbor knows where they were.
If they are all mucked up with mud, do what you can to clear them out then, get a (https://www.amazon.com/G-T-Water-Products-186-Attachment/dp/B0000CBIWC) [drain king] and clear those pipes or from the top down.
Try Drain King. It's amazing what water pressure can do.what ever is stuck should move before you burst a pipe.
http://www.amazon.com/G-T-Water-Products-186-Attachment/dp/B0000CBIWC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452997609&sr=8-1&keywords=Drain+King
Many times in the past, I've had good success with one of these:
The black part swells to the diameter of your pipe when you turn on the water hose (keeping the water from coming up backwards), and creates enough pressure to break the clog loose.
I use one of these in my sink. Just fill up the dirty FP with water, dump and clean. All the grounds fit into the strainer and I just knock it all into the trash. Cleanup takes less than 60 seconds.
Depending on your tub type, one of these should help. I personally use one of this design and it works great. Just have to empty it into a trash can before showering, which is just whacking it a few times against the side of the trash to loosen it out.
This happened to me as well, and I crush my grain on the finer side (and I like that) so I've implemented the following two solutions:
First, I bought this stainless steel mesh screen and cut it into a circle using a pair of tin snips. This sits on top of my bottom plate during the mash and stops just about everything from getting through.
Second, because some of the grain can sneak up through the top plate during the mash, I bought this kitchen sink strainer to sit on top of the top plate overflow inlet.
While I agree with others that a small amount of grain in the boil should have little effect, these are two relatively inexpensive modifications that give me a lot of peace of mind. Cheers!
I use one of these about once a week, because our tub and pipes are pretty old, and that's about all it takes for our drain to start clogging. If the link doesn't work, it's just a 3 or 4 pack of drain snakes, which look like long zipties.
I've tried using a hair trap like this one, but even though I'm also really careful about grabbing my hair before it can go down the drain, enough of it gets away that when I use the hair trap, I have standing water in my shower before I'm done. I'd rather just snake the drain once a week.
The conditioner isn't clogging your drain, it's hair. But it may be helping the hair clump together (which will also make it easier to snake it out). Dran-o and other pipe cleaning chemicals won't do much against these clogs-- before I bought the snakes, my partner ran ~3 gallons of Dran-o down the shower drain and it didn't do much.
If your drain has a raised, silver mushroomy head to it, you might need a snake more like this. That's what we have for our bathroom counter sink.
Crock pot meals! Crock pot chili, crock pot chicken, crock pot soups etc. I live in a really old building and I don't have a dishwasher or a disposal. I got a mesh strainer for my drain like this one from the dollar store. Make a crock pot meal, tupperware the rest for the week, and then use things like trader joes cauliflower rice/broccoli rice to beef up the meals and add a side like microwave steamed veggies or a salad. Alternatively, rotisserie chickens are ok too, I just find the chicken too dry to reheat in the microwave, but they are great for making soups or using in other dishes.
I'll just leave this right here.
I have long straight Asian hair and have always had to use these.
Depending on the floor space you might buy a drip pan made for washing machines or water heaters. Example:
Camco 20752 32"OD x 30" Washing Machine Drain Pan w/PVC Fitting (White) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000PS8J64/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_vbixyb66F12MG
cant tell if serious or not, but I have one of these
I've found stink bugs in my hair while showering :/
There have been times I was showering and noticed a spider on the wall above me and although I keep an eye on it...at some point I look up and it's fucking gone, nowhere to be found!
Anyway, I have this thing in my drain that catches the hair. You might find this useful.
Hair Snare Drain Cover Universal - White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000PSDGNA/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_E2Waub0FX1AFN
I had an issue with it and put one of those hair-stopper things (kinda like this) on the top of the drain and it helped quite a bit.
Like this?
http://www.amazon.com/Hair-Snare-Drain-Cover-Universal/dp/B000PSDGNA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420596810&sr=8-1&keywords=drain+stopper+hair
Invest in some shower drain covers, they've done wonders for my household full of long haired creatures.
Me too. Two long haired females in my house so after the plummer came and snaked a ton of hair out I got the only kind that works. It gets all slimy, you must clean it after every shower, and the water doesn't drain properly. Fucking blows.
I am happy because I called into work today to do math homework. I'm unhappy because I'm hungry T.T But that'll be fixed soon!!
I would love this which is in my "Random Things" wishlist.
My wife and I both have really long hair. Couple of things:
First, hair traps are a thing. You can buy them anywhere from Amazon to BB&B to Walmart. There are a few styles, but I prefer the ones with suction cups to keep them in place. I have a couple packs of these under the sink and they work wonders.
Secondly, if your fiancé is down, have her donate her hair when she gets it cut. There are quite a few medical conditions that cause hair to fall out and your donation goes towards a wig that could really make somebody's life just a little bit better. I used to use Locks of Love until I found out that after they take your hair, they charge people for the wigs they make. Those things can cost well over a grand. Instead, try Wigs For Kids, who don't charge for their end product and I know for sure there's going to be a child who won't have to worry about how they look after treatment.
Never heard of such a thing, but the closest I can think of to this would be "dop de cada"(bath plug). You can buy these at "Dedeman", or you could order your "stop-a-clog" on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/SlipX-Solutions-30756-1-Stop-A-Clog-Protectors/dp/B00314YBPM
Speaking as a person with long hair, get one of these for the shower and you won't have to unclog it anywhere near as often.
It looks like there's tabs bent down from the 4 corners and you'd just pry it "up" and then have some grout to patch.
They do make special "hair catching" plastic covers you can just throw on that though. https://www.amazon.com/DrainWig-Shower-Hair-Catcher/dp/B00DC4E1X8 https://www.amazon.com/Stop-A-Clog-Drain-Protectors-2-Pack/dp/B00314YBPM
I don't know about the hair around the house as I don't notice it much and my hair is fairly long; as for the shower being clogged by hair it can be easily prevented by this
Invest in one of these. It'll save you a lot of fights

If there is one thing I need it's this. The hair traps I currently have (yes, I have two) suck horribly and cause the water in the tub to drain as slow as a snail.
You could try one of these: http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Grips-Shower-Stall-Protector/dp/B003M8GMUY. I have one in my shower so it catches most/all of my hair and I can just clean it out afterwards.

The only pre-take apart option I don’t see on your list
Shop-Vac 9193400 Drain Hero

I have women in the house so I have slow drains too. I bought a Shop Vac suction cup and I don't know why I didn't buy it years ago. If you've got a spare $10 I'd look into it.

We have something like this, which works nicely, and bottles of the eco-friendly drain cleaner. We also rent, in a rather old German place where harsh drain cleaners are forbidden, and that seems to keep things clear.
Regarding drying, in the summer I just towel her off and she then goes along her merry way, and in the cooler months I use a normal blow dryer. None of my previous dogs have liked being blow dried, but this one gets offended when I stop. It's very sweet. Then I brush her until she gets bored of it. The only special thing I do is an allergy treatment that her vet prescribes.
I hear you on colour schemes. I almost always have black dogs and gave up on wearing much colour years ago, however I once had a black and white cat. We had dark floorboards back then, and I never noticed black hairs around the place, but I didn't need to because everything I owned was then covered in white hair.
Get a catcher thing to put over the drain to catch hair, and clean it out after your shower.
Get something like this.

That's nasty. Prevention is possible!
I have used this and this in the past. The first one works better because it has smaller holes in it.

As someone with a lot of hair who also sheds a lot of hair, I'm going to suggest a "tubshroom" strainer for your shower. It will still eventually get clogged up but lasts waaaaaaay longer than any other strainer I've tried (the struggle is real, folks).

It catches everything.
I agree with the clogged drain scenario. A simple option for this type of drain is a Drain King. Connect it to a hose pipe and stick it into the drain pipe. When you turn on the water it blows up like a balloon, sealing the pipe and using water pressure to clear the line. You can get them at pretty much any hardware or home improvement store.
I don't have any personal experience with the Drain King, but it is well reviewed on Amazon. What drain is clogged?
This is what you need.
Drain Zips. I have a few of these and they work great -- along the same lines as your wire hangar, but probably better reach and grab. You can find them at any local hardware or big box store for just a few bucks.
http://www.amazon.com/Faucet-Queen-Zip--Drain-Clog/dp/B000YHRAXE/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1422409079&sr=8-13&keywords=drain+zip
If it's a deep, full clog, I've got one of these that also works like a champ, but you need a garden hose to supply force: http://www.amazon.com/G-T-Water-Products-186-Attachment/dp/B0000CBIWC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422409317&sr=8-1&keywords=drain+pressure+hose
Probably $10-$20 also at any hardware or big box store.
1- Run it with the filter in bypass/boost/recirculate/whatever-your-valve-calls-it. If this fixes it, your filter is at fault.
2- turn it on, and while it is doing this cycling, go stand next to your skimmer and watch it. See if your weir door is stuck causing the pump to pull all the water it can, run the skimmer almost completely empty, then reprime after the skimmer fills back up (slowly).
3- what you described sounds like 'surging' which is often caused by a clog in the pipe. Get one of these or my preference, one of these. Put the blow bag on the end of the garden hose, open up the pump lid, and stick it a few inches into the pipe. Remove the skimmer lid and basket, and turn the hose on. You should get flow backwards through the piping, and hopefully start getting a bunch of debris you can fish out by hand.
If these don't fix it, and you're sure that all your orings on and before the pump (lid, pump drain plug, any valves on the suction side of the pump) then you probably need a professional to come blow the lines with air or CO2.
These are your new friend. ;)
Yeah, like this: http://www.amazon.com/Danco-88821-4-Inch-Strainer-Stainless/dp/B000DZGJX4
That silicone one looks amazing! I might just have to buy that.
A quick tip from someone who has lots of hair and the mesh drain cover thing - don't empty it out every week, empty it out at the end of your shower! I have one of these things (amazon link) and I take it out, empty it in the trash can next to/outside the shower, and I'm done with it. It dries out during the day so when I have to empty the trash for trash day, it just falls out, especially if there's like a toilet paper tube or something that it's stuck to.
After you get it cleaned out, buy one of these. Just clean it out every time you shower and you'll never have a problem again.
Buy one of [these washing machine drain pans] (https://smile.amazon.com/Camco-20752-Washing-Machine-Fitting/dp/B000PS8J64/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479045075&sr=8-1&keywords=washer+drain+pan+with+pvc+fitting), put it in the tent and elevate it slightly. Hook up a hose that you run to a sump pump or outside. Now you can water inside the tent - just flush with clean water to rinse the pan and hose.
For $5 this problem is fixed. I splurge on a new one every year or two. http://smile.amazon.com/Hair-Snare-Drain-Cover-Universal/dp/B000PSDGNA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1427840453&sr=8-3&keywords=drain+cover
After a shower it's is easy and pretty non-objectionable to pick up hair out of this, especially compared to cleaning out a drain. Source: female with long hair who hates clogged drains.
This! You can get prettier ones, but they cost more.
I like this product. It allows me to see what is in the drain easily, and I can clear some gunk. When there is something else in the drain, it is easier to fish it out because I can see it.

Sorry to be so slow replying. I had the same problem -- this is the only one that I have found that had an acceptable catch vs flood ratio. (About to re-order for myself after a few years; and trying several other new alternatives.)

to clean out the current clogs.
Less gross: buy a Two Stop Drain Protector. I had one when I had two huskies. After bathing them I'd let it try them flake into the trash!
I wish the lady I got my condo from had done that...I snaked out so much nasty ass long black rotten hair...ugh.
Actual advice mallard...

This greatly eased my transition into the wonderful world of "how the f* is the bathtub clogged again." One of the best purchases I ever made, as anyone who has yanked out a 3-month-old lump of shampoo, long hair, and bodily remnants can attest to.
Edit: That's a two-pack. Should be cheaper than that...
If this is your personal video (and even if it's not) invest in one of these

You guys need one of these.
Once you get moved in and everything, I'd suggest having someone buy one of these. You can probably find them cheaper at a store close to you, but they really do help. My sister has had problems with her hair clogging the drain because it's really long, and this helps tremendously.
I have one of these. I have long hair and live with my boyfriend, who is usually the one who removes the wad of hair.

That's the one. its flat which I like better than the ones that stick up
For my tub I use a shop vac with a rubber extension like this: http://www.amazon.com/Shop-Vac-9193400-Drain-Hero/dp/B0042AY6XQ.
What comes out will likely be gross, especially in a sink, but it works. Last time I got a hair clog in the tub, I broke two snakes before trying this.
They make a little plastic/rubber jobber that looks like the end of a tiny plunger - it connects directly to a shop vac hose, and is used to create a seal when sucking or blowing a drain with a shop vac. Maybe you already have something like that? Just in case you don't, I wanted you to know they exist.
Because I like you
This thing is a lifesaver. Ever since we got one, the drain has never clogged.
Well you could use this as inspiration on the design.

Mesh? Like wire mesh? Kitchen drain covers are often mesh, to prevent bits of food from getting through, but I've never seen a shower one like that. The ones for the shower are usually plastic, and they often have little grippy spikey things for the hair to catch onto.
I use a silicone hair trap and it's very easy to clean. I think this is the exact one I have.
My favorite Christmas song The Christmas Guest.
Here is a drain thing I need...it would make my shower infinitely more enjoyable.
I recommend getting a hair catcher for your drain.
I used to have to clean out the shower drain all the time, and it'd plug up at least once a week, even though I'd stick as much hair to the shower wall as I could to throw out once I finished showering.
That little drain strainer has kept my tub from plugging up for 2 months now, best $5 I ever spent.
Get one of these. You have to clean it every day, or every other day, but it beats digging around in the drain.
http://www.amazon.com/Danco-9D00010306-Microban-Hair-Catcher/dp/B004L04X5S
these tub drains work pretty well too.
I use one of these bad boys https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Grips-Bathtub-Drain-Protector/dp/B00EU6HB9S/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=show+drain+cover&qid=1564500106&s=gateway&sr=8-6
Damn, so no easy solution. Well, thank you very much for your time and reply! Also, this is the landlords handy work. SMH.
Also: To elaborate on the crafstmanship of the landlord: I complained to him that this was hazardous and not very safe to have. So he comes over with a drain cover, and tries to drill into the ceramic floor through the rubber edge of the drain cover, cracking the tile, and as you see, patching the cracked tile with that substance. It's pretty infuriating.
Had it, never that easy to clean. Got https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EU6HB9S now, MUCH easier to clean and drains faster.
The metal ones don't get as gross imo.

i bought these for every floor drain in my kitchen. keep these on top of the standard mesh drains and I greatly reduced all my plumbing issues, they seriously rock.
keeping your staff on top of always having clean drains is super important
Maybe on of these then.
I'd love one of those, but our drain has the type of cover that you lift and twist to lock in the open position. This helps keep most of it out, but some of it manages to get through.
Also invest in something like this: Show Drain Hair Catcher
Keep the problem from happening to start with.
Why not just buy this?
I haven't read every comment so I may be repetitive. There's definitely a lot of specific things that I would bring myself to live with my boyfriend, but here are a few things to help her out that I like having in my own bathroom:
-a small trashcan
-Q-tips
-tissue/Kleenex
-a hair trap for your shower drain (this is the one I use. it's worked the best for me and I have waist-length, thick hair)
-maybe one of those shower hangers so there's extra space to put toiletries
-baby wipes (make sure to always throw them away, even if they say flushable! they can fuck up your pipes)
-lint roller
-baby powder
-small bottle of baby shampoo (I use this for cleaning makeup sponges/brushes)
-Febreze for when you guys blow up the bathroom
Again, these are suggestions and may not be specific to her! Don't feel obligated to get everything. Maybe ask her as well :)
Edit: Just realized I only included bathroom stuff 😐

I'm a huge fan if this one, it sits in the drain so nothing goes under it
I agree with getting the Zip It, and I also recommend the TubShroom.
I take hair out of it a couple times when I shower. It kicks ass at trapping hair, it's cheap, and it's super quick to pop out/clean/pop in.
While I don't have one personally, lots of people have apparently had good luck with these TubShroom stoppers. It looks like it would solve your problem.
As a guy with long hair and lived with 2 girls we constantly had our drains clog, I looked around amazon and found this. It works so fucking well, the amount of hair it picks up is ridiculous, of course with the amount of hair in the house we had to clean it up every few days which is really easy to do.
I have one of these. Super easy to remove and clean, relatively cheap too.

If it'll fit in your drain, a [Shower Shroom] (https://smile.amazon.com/ShowerShroom-Revolutionary-Stand-up-Protector-Strainer/dp/B072HGH6MW) or [Tub Shroom] (https://smile.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B01BYMTYBS) might be just the ticket.
I have a tubshroom. It has lasted like 2 years.
https://www.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B01BYMTYBS
Get yourself a Tub Shroom and also she should clean it. I'm a man, and the only person in my house of 4 with long hair. I know I should clean it out. This thing makes a world of difference.

TubShroom. 13 dollars saves you the trouble of renting a hazmat suit once a month to wrestle the ungodly Frankenstein's monster-esque amalgamation of soap scum, bodily secretions, and hair. Life changing, truly.
Order a tubshroom.
I bought a tub shroom specifically for my girlfriend's hair. Every day I have to hose out all of the clumped up hair.
Tubshroom. It is a device for your shower/tub drain that catches all the hair if you have one without a preexisting cover.

Recently had a drain go super slow, used a cheap plastic drain snake to get most of the hair/soap scum. Followed by this method and it's flowing perfectly. I would also hiiiiighly recommend a TubShroom (amazon), replaces the normal drain in your tub but keeps all the junk in an easy to get to place.
I bought one a year ago for the tub in my bathroom and it works like a fucking dream. 15 bucks on amazon and catches every single piece of hair. Super easy to clean out too and my drains never clog any more.
Link for the lazy
Here you go, I saved you a LOT of headaches. I just pull this up when Im cleaning the shower at the end of the week/month/whenever the hell I get around to it.

But I do recommend that you clean out drain thoroughly before using to ensure maximum flow. I also bought this to compliment the tub shroom:

Buy the tub shroom. Super effective.
TUB SHROOM!
There’s also a SinkShroom for lazy husband beard hairs.
I use this one. It's pretty pricey for a piece of plastic but really easy to clean out after and well worth it IMO.
They need a tub shroom.

Can I suggest the [tub shroom] (https://www.amazon.com/TubShroom-Revolutionary-Protector-Catcher-Strainer/dp/B01M0H7YC2/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=tub+shroom&qid=1574876851&sr=8-4)?
My girlfriend has hair a little bit longer than midback and it used to clog the drain every 4 months or so. We found this at Home Goods and picked it up. I was able to install it in about 10 minutes (after researching how to take out the stopper on youtube).
Now we pull the shroom every month or so, drop the hair in the garbage and it seems to work.
The one I have is large, flat, and is placed entirely over the drain cover. There is a silicone ring to I hold it in place. The smaller holes of the add-on cover trap hair before it gets to the original drain cover. Works well.
