> A lot of games now incorporate those random opening of packs or boxes where you can get items (CS:GO crates, Dota 2 Treasure Chests, FIFA Ultimate Team Packs, etc).
> But this system feels like a cheap and easy way for game developers to earn money and since it is still quite new...
No one in this thread dare say this is a new trend. It's not even exclusive to video games. Games of chance for items of no real value have been around for years, almost always aimed towards children.
See:
These are the few that I could remember off the top of my head, there are many more.
Listen, I disagree with everything that those two did in the CS:GO Lotto scandal, but games of chance that give valueless items in return have been done and dealt with on a legal basis. They've been around for years, and as long as Valve doesn't give any single item an actual monetary cost that can then be traded through their own channels for real money, CS:GO skins fall into this category too.
That being cleared up, if that's the way gaming goes, so be it. There's not much anyone can do about the inclusion of a publicly successful, and profitable mechanic.
I gave some advice about this topic to someone else a while ago.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Beyblade/comments/9wkcxc/havent_played_with_beyblades_in_ages_wondering/
If you are wanting to get him something that really just gives him a lot to choose from and a lot of fun beys to mix and match parts, then you could get him the Ultimate Tournament Set, which has a big stadium and 6 different beyblades. Or if you want something smaller, go for the Star Storm Stadium, which has two of the same beys that are in the other set and still comes with a cool stadium for a third of the price.
I would reccomend getting the star storm since it's cheaper, and you can then buy some boosters/starters to add in with it. It would be a really cool christmas surprise when they get a stadium with beys, AND THEN get other beys later on in the day after they have been battling for a bit.
As for which beys to get, I would say try to only get the ones who's names end with 3 or 4. They are the stronger ones from the newer generations. Anything like V1, V2, M1, M2, etc would be too weak to beat those ones in the sets.
Be wary of buying beyblades online because there are a lot of fakes. Make sure they EXPLICITLY STATE that they are from TAKARA TOMY, or HASBRO. The other ones like Rapidity are fakes and will break easily and not come as advertised. Also, Takara Tomy is just the japanese counterpart to Hasbro, and while they are better in some cases, with kids they aren't gonna notice slight differences between the two brands. (Except in Gen 4 where the Japanese ones are much, much heavier and stronger than the Hasbro ones).
Hopefully this helps. Any other questions? If you tell me what you are looking for specifically, I could link you to some.
I found some cheap terrain on Amazon that happens to be well sized for Guild Ball and was pretty easy to paint. Take a look:
Of the ones I got, obstacles can be made with groups of the barrels and crates (a few crates, a few barrels, or a combination of both), the low walls, and the tree stumps. The high walls make nice barriers. While I didn't get them, I imagine the chests and columns could be added to either obstacles or barriers, as well.
Here's a picture of all the terrain I made after assembly and priming. Here's a picture of one of them after being painted fully.. Unfortunately, I don't have a group shot after painting.
Cool. So as someone who's knowledge of beyblade is virtually non existent other than some hazy childhood memories where would you recommend I start. I saw a battle arena with 2 beyblades on amazon for $30 and that looked tempting.
Here's what I'm referring to.

Second the recommendation for sword launcher:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N2U6C4Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T1_KinBzbYMZM3D0
Xcalibur top comes with red sword launcher included:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KZ58QWS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T1_0jnBzb2DA0Q0N
The sword launchers really are superior. There is also a "supergrip" launcher that is an upgrade from the blue launcher - longer rip cord by a few teeth and easier to hold:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J7YO5BE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_dp_T1_cmnBzbZP46D75
Sword launcher is still the best though!
Oh and I should also mention it took me WAY too long to figure out you can hook the launchers together to be able to launch two beys at once. Blue to blue or blue to white supergrip launcher. Does not work for sword launcher that's one at a time.
Just looking at what amazon.ca has, you're probably better off with this: https://www.amazon.ca/Beyblade-burst-B-19-Bay-Stadium/dp/B0167Z1CFI/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys&ie=UTF8&qid=1481645858&sr=8-1&keywords=takara+beyblade+burst+stadium
It's pricey, but is a much better stadium than the one in the Epic Rivals set.
If money is an issue, the other Hasbro stadium is better than the square one: http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=110986956
https://www.amazon.com/Paintable-Brick-Walls-Printed-Buildings/dp/B00TO07GMM
They paint up great after priming. Considering buying another set since they ended up being the most used pieces during our last game session.

I'd recommend buying Takara Tomy stuff from Amazon - they're known to be of better quality than the Hasbro ones. Btw, if you buy Cho-Z Achilles, it has already included a LR Launcher, so you can scratch that off the list.
Anyways, here are the links:
- Cho-Z Achilles: https://www.amazon.com/TAKARA-TOMY-Takaratomy-B-129-Achilles-00DM/dp/B07KGGW393

- Launchergrip (Metallic): https://www.amazon.com/Takaratomy-Beyblade-B-109-Launcher-Gunmetallic/dp/B07B9XVVQT
- Grip weight: https://www.amazon.com/Beyblade-Burst-B-114-Black-Japan/dp/B07CCBTVQK
There's also this device called a BeyLogger (the improved version is the BeyLogger Plus), which I'll give the link to: https://www.amazon.com/Beyblade-Burst-B-77-Beyloger-Plus/dp/B06XGBRT1Y. This device can be connected to a Japanese app that you can find in the Japanese App Store, but other than that, it just measures launching power & adds weight to the launcher and that's it. Pretty expensive, so not compulsory.
Hope this will be enough for your son :)

What are the Takara Tomy stadiums to look into? My son has quite a few TT Beyblades but his Hasbro stadium is looking pretty beat up after about 3 months of use (almost like it is getting scratched/dull surface).
He has this one:

How’s this one?

if you can find [this]( https://www.amazon.com/Beyblade-B9499-Burst-Beystadium/dp/B01F6VS3ZG ) burst stadium in your regions "walmart" or target equivalents. if theres a amazon Australia check there too
You can use anything as terrain as long as you define it. You can use a Pringles can and say it's LOS blocking but you can't go on top of it because <insert reason> as long as your opponent agrees.
If you're looking for low cost terrain I have used stuff from this site such as the abandoned buildings. You print them on plasticard and you can build various heights with these. The abandoned building prints out with a choice of 1, 2 or 3 stories and you can print as many or as little as you like. They have access points (Doors) and balconies that you can perch a model or two on to shoot off of and give some cover.
You don't have to break the bank for terrain. What you're looking for is:
If you have those three things, in any number on the play field, it'll be a much more fun game that gives you the ability to maneuver and get into a good firing position.
I also purchased these which were very cheap and work very well for something to hide behind. Because they can be made into a "Box" you can turn them into Ruins for the 4+ cover save as long as your opponent agrees.
Thanks.
So, there are not currently any sets that are (as an example) a stadium and 2 beyblades that aren't the burst set?
Even an older one?
What about something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Beyblade-Shogun-Steel-Battle-Tops/dp/B00C0LQTDY/ref=sr_1_3?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1481658856&sr=1-3&keywords=beyblade
or

I would like to spend less. The Takara Tomy "basic" stadium costs 55€...I would like to stay low on price. I don't actually have much money to spend and I feel like 55€ for a piece of plastic is a bit too much :/
There is? I know there is a couple listings for the Red string launcher and grip but not the LR launcher. Link? The one im talking about is this one, obviously overpriced cuz amazon 3rd party seller https://www.amazon.com/Beyblades-JAPANESE-Accessory-Beyblade-Launcher/dp/B0054XOKLS
Amazon if you are willing to pay the price.
