To add on to this,

Going on the Brewmaster theme, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dota-2-Brewmaster-Glass-Code/dp/B00NY0MT16/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1472828510&sr=8-2&keywords=dota+2+brewmaster

There is this. Also Valve used to do an official one on their site, but they seem to have taken it down now.

This shirt features brewmaster (middle left), along with Tusk (top right) and Bristle (bottom right) If he enjoys Brewmaster, its not out of the realms of possibility that he has similar feelings for the other 2 heroes as their playstyles are pretty similar.

There are also these Mini Plushies

One of them is brewmaster, unfortunately they are blind boxes, and so you dont know what you are going to get. So its a bit of a gamble.

If you have to buy one to use for everything, get a stemmed tulip style glass. http://amzn.com/B003QRJCY4

u/turkeypants · 7 pointsr/beer

I'd say an unbranded tulip and you're done. Or two. Or four. Depending on your plans and your rate/likelihood of having beer geek guests over. To the degree glasses make a difference, this shape is favored for various reasons like, surface area exposure to generate more aromatics, concentrating those aromatics with the taper, head retention for some reason, etc.

Set of 2 Spiegelau

Set of 4 Spiegelau better price

Not sure why they call it a stemmed "pilsner" glass since we're used to seeing a different, taller style of glass typically associated with pilsners, but a tulip by any other name would smell as sweet. They make them smaller, but I like this bigger version.

I have a couple of these and they're just my default for anything better than everyday beer, but realistically could be somebody's only beer glass just as easily. I've never bothered to test whether my senses are attuned enough to notice a difference vs., say, a shaker pint, but I figure it can't hurt. With these in my cabinet, I don't otherwise feel compelled to get a bunch of different shapes for different styles. Some people are glass junkies and have fun getting lots of different kinds, but if you want to one-and-done it, I think this is the one.

I think branded glasses are tawdry myself but lots of people prefer branded/painted/artsy and like to collect different ones. Luckily there are tons of branded glasses in this shape from lots of breweries if you like that better than plain.

u/coronamanum · 5 pointsr/beer

Rather than pint glasses, I'd suggest Spiegelau's craft beer glass set. It comes with an IPA glass, a stout glass, and a wheat glass.

On mobile, so probably not formatting link correctly.

u/Burn-Baby-Burn · 5 pointsr/beer

Maybe a tulip glass like this? I uses these more than pint glasses anymore.

Do make sure whatever you get holds at least 12oz w/ 16oz preferable. My wife got me a couple glasses that were tulip glasses, but not for beer and held only 10oz. The 2oz left at the bottom of the bottle gets lonely, be it in the bottle, or in my stomach first.

I got these for cheaper than this, and tpyically use them or another tulip. They arent 14-16 oz i dont think, but i dont pour out a while one a time. Libbey makes some ones that are similar and cheaper still, though the glass is a bit thicker. a normal pint glass wouldnt be bad though

u/Gractious · 4 pointsr/DIY

Materials list:

Etching Cream - $22.61

There's a 10 oz. bottle as well but it's only a couple bucks cheaper. You might also find smaller sizes cheaper elsewhere. Etching 8 glasses barely used any so 22 oz. will last a long time for sure.

Contact paper - $3.90

16 oz. Beer Glasses (10 pack) - $20.94

You'll also need a sharp fine-point blade like an X-acto and gloves for the etching process, but those are pretty cheap to come by if you don't have any sitting around.

Spiegelau makes some great glassware and the linked set will give you an IPA, Stout and Heff glass.

The glass is thin, but very high quality.

u/astuder · 3 pointsr/beer

I'm a fan of Spiegelau. A common complaint is that they break too easily, but I wash all my glassware by hand and have never had any issues.

I would buy a set of these, they're a great glass for any beer style.

Use these. They're great for making small test batches, and for testing variations on larger brews. Check around on craigslist, you might be able to find them locally.

u/Max_W_ · 3 pointsr/beer

If he uses it because he likes the beer from it, I strongly suggest getting him a Spiegelau Beer Glass (also available individually). They get amazing reviews from every beer connoisseur who tries them.

u/Dr_King_Schultz · 3 pointsr/beerporn

They're glasses specifically designed for IPAs. They were designed by Dogfish Head, and Sierra Nevada and made by Spiegelau. They're real delicate, but I think they work really well.

Here's the Dogfish version

I know this isn't the style you're looking for but I'll mention them anyway: http://amzn.com/B00BTPUT3S

u/Jorion · 2 pointsr/funny

I'm not sure. Amazon, maybe? These are on my friend's parents glasses.

EDIT: Yep!

u/KEM10 · 2 pointsr/Homebrewing

How experimental are they and what kind of beer do they brew?

If the answers are "very" and "mostly hoppy stuff", then I'd look at some experimental hops. Here's one crop in particular from a regular poster around here, and this is the page where you can find all of their sales stuff where the old experimentals live.

Other than that, I have custom pint glasses with "KEM10 Brewing est. 2010" that I love, and a friend has his name on a custom growler.

There's also always a new "correct" way to drink beer. Recently TeKu glasses are that distinction. Previously it was the Spiegelau stout and IPA glasses that were designed with blind taste tests with different breweries. Next up, they're going to reinvent the wheel.

Round two (But seriously, thank you SO much for taking the time to answer these questions)

  1. Will putting 3 gallons of must in a 5 gallon bucket have any negative consequences due to increased head space?
  2. The peaches that I am using have been cut and frozen (by myself, no sugar added- just peach), would it harm/have any benefit to boil the puree to sanitize? I've just been reading of the horrors of poor sanitation in brewing and wish to avoid any and all that I can.
  3. Some of the honey that I am using (2 qt are coming from a friend that is kind enough to give them to me) has granulated- should I not warm it slightly?
  4. I reform the question only due to my trepidation at sanitation, but is it truly wise to do a no-heat/no pasteurization?
  5. I live in the middle of butt-fuck nowhere, GA and have no local brew shop- the mead will continue to expand after fermentation/I can't just seal the racking tanks?
  6. What is the minimum temperature for viable fermentation? I was reading that lower temperatures can lead to longer fermentation periods, but better mead.
  7. Having just found stainless steel pots (3 gal) in my basement (formally my grandparents' house), I am going to forgo on the plastic buckets (saving $20ish) and use them.
Could I use stainless for long-term (racking) storage and save myself the trouble of dealing with 1 gal carboys? Or should I just stick with the carboys?
  8. Problem- I have these jugs and am worried that professional airlocks won't fit them... advice?

Additionally, could you recommend a fermentation lock (cheaper is always better)?

Again, thank you SO flipping much for putting the effort into helping a random

Edit: Looking at corkers and I am struck by a thought... could I not pound a cork into a bottle with a rubber mallet? Obviously not the best idea, but would the cork be unstable or break apart?
u/BombingBerend · 2 pointsr/CraftBeer

Personally prefer two types of glasses for most of my beers. Either this somewhat weird looking but great to drink from IPA glass: https://www.eebria.com/products/merchandise/cloudwater-brew-co/1869-cloudwater-craftmaster-glass

Or the Teku: https://www.amazon.com/TeKu-Worlds-Best-Beer-Glass/dp/B00F3GMWY8 which truly is the best beer glass.

But sometimes visuals do matter more than practicality, and on those days I will gladly drink from my Kwak glass: https://cookinglife.nl/kwak-bierglas/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgarT9cfB4gIV1MAYCh0aIQhVEAQYASABEgK49PD_BwE

I guess this goes without saying but make sure when you pour it from the bottle you just tip the bottle upside down over the glass and let it drain. Also, I drink left hand milk stout from a Spiegelau https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BTPUT3S/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_nAYtub02QEWZQ Happy drinking!

u/KDB82 · 2 pointsr/beer

I like these glasses but you could also go a bit fancier and get him some teku

u/jag0007 · 2 pointsr/beer

glasses make a huge difference in all styles - some glasses are more appropriate than others.

there might be a lot of interest in a teku glass; i have them, i love them, but i will not use them with IPAs or other delicate beers. tekus are more suited for loud beers like barrel aged stouts, double IPAs, and heavy belgian quads. they provide a very well rounded experience, but they can destroy a beer at the same time.

tulips and belgian style glasses seem to be well suited to just about everything. when it doubt, tulips for everything.

i have no experience with anal bead glassware (spiegelau) but i have heard many great things about them. i dont know anyone to do a comparison with.

honestly, i would buy 4-6 short stemmed 16 oz tulip/belgian style glasses like this:

Do you know if he's into homebrewing? If so, there are lots of good, easy options.

If you want to send him beer, recommendations are going to depend on your location. Packing/shipping isn't all that hard, but here are our Packaging Tips on /r/beertrade.

Otherwise, you could order bottles from an online site (Archer would be a good one). There are also some great books and magazines. A subscription to Draft or Beer Advocate would be good (I think Draft's a bit better). Here are a couple good books: Tasting Beer, The Brewmaster's Table. There are lots more books/magazines for homebrewing. This nice set of Spiegelau Tulip Glasses would always be appreciated. You also could buy him a gift certificate to a a good beer store in his area - you can find most beer stores contact info on BeerAdvocate's Places (just click through to his city). Finally, brewery souvenirs (glasses, shirts, keychains, etc.) are always good gifts for beergeeks from elsewhere.

Hope that helped. /r/homebrewing could probably give you a great rundown of homebrewing options, if need be.

u/Lukerules · 2 pointsr/beer

There is definitely a level of snobbery surrounding certain things and a bad glass certainly doesn't ruin a beer but if the option is there then a nicer glass is always going to be more enjoyable. I'm the first to rally against snobbery and the amount of misinformation being passed around the internet surrounding beer - but I genuinely believe make a very noticeable difference

If I could recommend glasses (people might think I'm a shill for these guys because I always crap on about them here), I would recommend the Spiegelau Stemmed Pilsner. http://www.amazon.com/Spiegelau-Classics-Stemmed-Pilsner-Glasses/dp/B001CFR3XE

They feel so thin but are quite sturdy and just amazing to drink from.

I have these too which are decent. If you want the Relic glass, I can pick a couple up and ship them, maybe trade for some glassware from your area. Message me if so.

u/soflymcfly · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

No glasses in a restaurant are BIFL. It's a sad truth about restaurants. You will constantly have to buy and re-buy glassware. Trust me. The best way to prepare for this is to keep it simple. Have a few types of glasses only:

  1. Standard clear pint glasses http://www.amazon.com/International-Luminarc-Beer-Glass-16-Ounce/dp/B009ZRTNYI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395532502&sr=8-1&keywords=pint+glasses

  2. Stemless clear wine glasses
    http://www.amazon.com/Arc-International-Luminarc-Perfection-Stemless/dp/B005KPGEQ4/ref=sr_1_4?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1395532607&sr=1-4&keywords=stemless+wine+glasses

  3. Clear hot beverage mugs
    http://www.amazon.com/Libbey-13-Ounce-Classic-Coffee-Clear/dp/B00024DJCK/ref=pd_sim_indust_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0GZGC8FJJ1H02004V32W

    That's It!

Keep it clear and design free, manufacturers up charge for that stuff, plus it's easier to polish glasses like the ones I showed you. Having clear and plashed glasses will work in any restaurant, fancy or not.

    Pints

Pint glasses, they look decent and feel quality. They are one of the most durable and versatile glasses as well. Plus you can use them for everything, pretty much.

    Wine

Quality wine glasses are thin and breakable. The glass on wine glasses should be thin (esp. for reds). As for wine glass durability, you can always get stemless glasses, they are like wine tumblers. You can use them as an all-purpose glass for both reds and whites. Losing the stem gives the glasses more stability they don't break when they tip too. Most importantly avoid crystal. Stick with simple, clear, stemless wine glasses. They'll be quality and cheap.

    Hot Beverages

You need something with a handle to serve tea and coffee (or any hot beverage). Keep this clear and simple as well. Hot bev glasses are thicker glass too so they don't break easily.

    SUMMARY

Those are the only 3 types of glasses you need in a restaurant. Everything else is optional. Those three are the cheapest and easiest to replace because you will have to as no glass in a restaurant is BIFL. Sorry.

The Spiegelau IPA Glass is nice but it's easy to break. Really any 19-20 oz glass will hold a pint plus foam. Holds 16 oz plus foam no promlem. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BTPUT3S/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_SqJmxbQ063BRP

Plus, I have a beer pub (The Flying Saucer) that I frequent that has a brewery night where you drink the beer and get to keep the glass. That's where I wound up getting most of the 90+ glasses I have.

Not even a mention of the TeKu? The glass was invented to practically replace the standard pint. I feel this list is good, but could use some help.

About the TeKu:
"Teo Musso is the founder of Baladin Brewery in Italy. He collaborated with Italian sensory analysis expert Kuaska to create the Teku glass (the name Teku is an amalgamation of the names ‘Teo’ and ‘Kuaska’.) Musso’s goal in creating the Teku was to come up with an industry standard glass that could be used for the sensory analysis of all kinds of beer. He was inspired by the ISO glass with is the glass that is used to conduct the sensory evaluation of wine. Musso made a range of prototypes and had Kuaska evaluate them all. The resulting glass is both elegant and functional and is carried in many Italian specialty beer bars and brewpubs."

And about about the IPA glass?
"he Spiegelau IPA glass is designed to showcase varying aromatic profiles for the American 'hop forward' IPA beer, preserve a frothy head and volatiles and maintain a comfortably wide opening for the drinker to "nose" the beer"

TL:DR
The list is nice, but missing the specialty glasses that have been engineered for better beer experiences.

Amazon links for those interested:

Fingers crossed I'm better at riddles than I think I am ;)

  1. Wine - Since wine is made from grapes, some grape flavored energy feels necessary to make it through school

  2. Broom - This lenspen is basically a broom for a camera lens.

  3. Hat - A hat goes on a head. It's hard to get ahead in life with horrible bosses. I know we have teachers here, but this BluRay should give me tips on dealing with that.

  4. Book - Not horribly creative, but it does deal with this universe, so it's stuff I need to know.

  5. Chest - It's a space to store things. I hear lots of things get stored in an office's space, so maybe this will show me how to store in a dorm room? :p

    B) Cape - Capes just make everything better

1: A simple awesome tasting mead:

Okay, here we go:

You need something to ferment in. a 1-gallon bottle is perfect. You also need an airlock of some kind. Fermentation produces alcohol and carbon dioxide. If you sealed up something that's fermenting it would explode. So you want to let out the CO2 without letting IN any air (contamination, blah blah.) Some people use a balloon with a pinhole in it when they're getting started. But a proper airlock is only a couple bucks.

A profoundly simple, wonderful tasting mead that's great to start with is one called "JAOM" (Joe's Ancient Orange Mead.) There's nothing ancient about it.

  • 1 orange
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 whole clove
  • small handful of raisins. (25ish)
  • 3.5 pounds of clover honey
  • little package of plain old bread yeast.
  • Water to fill (about 2" shy of the top. This gets fizzy and you don't want it to explode.)

Now? Just put all that in the jar and put your airlock on it and wait.

The hard part? Waiting. Depending on the temperature it may take a day to start bubbling. It will actively ferment for weeks. Perhaps a month or more.

You need to wait for it to clear. Really clear. Like "I can put a piece of paper behind this and read it through the mead" clear.

This is going to take months. I recommend putting it in a closet someplace and pretending to forget about it.

You'll notice, over time, that a layer of stuff is going go cover the bottom of the jar, and get pretty deep (maybe an inch or so thick.) This is fine. It's mostly dead yeast. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's a little gross, so you don't want it in the final product. What I did before I had syphoning gear was pour as much off the top into a soda bottle as I could, then pour the rest into another one. It would re-settle so that I could do it again.

It's a cumbersome process, and you'll always have to waste some of your initial product. But it's worth it.

Now that you have a bottle of clear mead you have two options, only one of which will you take.

  • Drink
  • Let it age. This stuff gets better for YEARS. My first experiment was this mead a couple years ago. I bottled it (in 2 liter soda bottles. very classy) and it was awful. I figured I had nothing to lose by just keeping the bottles around. I tried it this spring? We drank about 3 liters in a week. It was so damn good. So even if you don't like the result, hang on to it. Write the date on it with a sharpie. It'll be good.

Disclaimer: This isn't my recipe. I found this on one of my favorite sites on ye olde innert00bz. Those knuckleheads are awesome.

Great suggestion, but why not go all out and get the craft beer set The IPA glass is outstanding!

This is my go to glass for ALL beers. It makes hoppy ones explode on aroma. Well worth it. Christmas is around the corner. Just sayin ;-)

Are you looking for looking for the Spiegelau IPA/Stout/Wheat beer glasses? Or just a Tulip, Snifter, etc. glass?

I doubt you'll be able to find the The Spiegelau glasses locally unfortunately.

IPA Glass, Stout Glass, Wheat Beer Glass

The IPA and Stout glasses are available on Amazon.

The Wheat beer glass might only be available on Bell's Brewery website, not sure.

I know its super late and you have already bought the gift but here is the IPA glass I use and they are amazing. Thought you might want to let him know or find this interesting if you like beer yourself. http://smile.amazon.com/Spiegelau-2-Pack-Classics-Glass-19-Ounce/dp/B00BTPUT3S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421783540&sr=8-1&keywords=spiegelau+ipa+glas

The Spiegelau set is usually a pretty good place to start, especially if you're looking for a decent range of glasses. You could add another glass or two onto it (snifter, flute, stange, nonic, etc.) if you think he brews styles that might call for one of those.

How are those any better than the current glasses you'd get at a decent beer bar? Libbey offers a set of six for $20

Spieglau sells a mixed pack of 4 glasses that includes a Hefe, a Pils, a Snifter and an "Ale" glass. I think that's the breakdown. Here's a link to it on Amazon.

$0-5 = A necessity nowadays

$5-10 = A Batman cup with a cape!...enough said!

$10-20 = So painfully hilarious

$20-50 = A staple in any kitchen!

Edit: Corrected my necessity thanks to Wenr!

I saw one for $5.99 but it was not prime.

Really, on a Monday?

These glasses are definitely needed for drinking.

I remember my 21st. I was in culinary school AND working so I didn't get to celebrate till my friend's 21st. So we had a joint birthday party. I will never. Ever. EVER. Drink that much again. But it was an awesome night. :D

Steal away!

These are the glasses I bought. I only wanted the glasses but it did come with a flight. My problem with those paddle style ones is the glasses can fall especially after a few beverages. I used a 2 1/4" forstner bit and the glasses fit perfect.

If I were your secret santa and got you this would you enjoy it?

u/deltat3 · 1 pointr/beerporn

Most glasses suck. These are the ONLY glasses you will need. Basically drink all your beer out of them.

He sounds similar to some friends of mine, who are all crazy about beer and have tastings on occasion. If he doesn't have a set of beer sampler glasses, like this then I would get him a set and a few unique beers to try. You can ask at a local liquor store for unique craft beer suggestions in your area.

If you're drinking an IPA drink it from the Spiegelau IPA Glass. Almost anything else can be drank from a Stemmed Pilsner.

Only exception imo are heavy abv bourbon barrel(or other heavy barrel aged) beers. For those I go with a Teku
