That's awesome, I'm so glad he got to have that interaction! (and kudos to you for stepping back and allowing it to take place!). You might try reading him some books about unconventional family structures as well - I've found that stories can be a great way to normalize situations and things that kids are going through. The Family Book, Who's in a Family?, The Great Big Book of Families, Who's in my Family?, and Families Families Families! are all good ones!

That i just found

The "sexual content" of the book in question, In my Mothers' house, consists of acknowledging the existence of gay couples with children. The book is a sweet story of an interracial family that has two mothers. Yep. Just portraying the existence of gay couples still gives Mormons (in Davis county) the vapors.

and we've had a lot of talks about her birth family and how sometimes someone loves you so much that they send you to a family who can protect you and keep you safe.

Kids read your anxiety as much as they hear your words. I know it's hard, but it's important to tell yourself that even though she is having these feelings, you have the rest of your lives to get it right, and she's not going anywhere. Calm yourself as much as you can, smile and tell her you love her.

Do you lie down with her at night at bedtime? One of use does this every night, and we always answer any questions she has as she's falling asleep, and we remind her that we love her, that she is special, that she is safe with us, and that we will be here for her forever.

Every night.

Good luck.

Let's Talk About It: Adoption (Mr. Rogers): Fred Rogers - Amazon.com
https://www.amazon.com/Lets-Talk-About-Adoption-Rogers/dp/0698116259
Fred Rogers opens the door for adopted children and their parents to safely talk about ... that this was the most honest book I've found that talks about adoption.

Also, Mister Rogers, who is splendid with children's issues, had a little sister who was adopted. You can't go wrong with his help.

You can always ask the children's librarian also, they are a great resource!

>Whatever book you think I am selling, or whatever website you think I am trying to lead traffic to is all in your head

All in my head? How about this. The very post you made is to a blog post on your site that has donation links all over it - so does your facebook page, so does your YouTube video (the only one).

Books for sale? How about this one - or this one - both of which are featured right at the very top of your website and were also in a post that you had right here in this forum before you conveniently deleted them, telling a user that they should buy your book to understand - something or other. I saw the post, as well as the ones linking to your blog. Funny how they have disappeared now.

In my head....and right there on the page.

>All I was doing was trying to get people to realize that fathers need a voice

Then why on earth couldn't you simply do that here by posting the relevant text here for us to read? Because, that wouldn't have given you click or given you a change to get a donation.

>take your ego aside and just help this dad

I have no ego, but yours seems to be plenty hurt. Why don't you take some of that great book money and hand it right to him?

Honestly, you come here and post this and what do you expect - that we will just blindly open our wallets up to you? Awareness is fine - I am all for you, but you need to seriously change your methods at least here in this sub. You may be doing great things, I am not judging what you do away from here. I don't know you. But I do know you brazenly came here with links, books, blogs, etc and you have judged me for calling you out on your methods, questioned my upbringing, my parents, my childhood, called me names, and generally acted like a damn spoiled brat that isn't getting their way.

The only thing you are asking us for is to blindly give to these causes - a gogetfunding that doesn't seem to be verified in any way, a site (yours) that doesn't seem to be affiliated with any legitimate organization at all. And you judge me (and perhaps others) and my skepticism? Ridiculous.

We are all damn well aware of some of the unlawful, unethical, and downright diabolical stuff that goes on in this world. Your fight needs to be more locally. The way to fight isn't to ask strangers from thousands of miles away for $20, your time needs to be spent enacting political and legal changes in those areas - that is where the pressure needs to be put.

But again you post for fundraising. Why am I not surprised. Take some time to think of some more names to call me and feel free to respond. Believe me, it doesn't hurt.

I liked "An adoption story: Little Stork's New Home"

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0993115349/

Talks about the struggles of the bio mom and the adoption process in a child friendly way.

u/bien-fait · 3 pointsr/BabyBumps

This book is awesome for kids that have two moms or two dads. Our kid has a mom and a dad and we still got it for her because she has two aunts, and we want her to understand that families come in all different ways!

The Family Book - Todd Parr
Families come in all shapes and sizes (two moms, two dads, adoption, etc)..

So I was adopted and I don't know what books my mom used for her benefit but she always kept the Mr Rogers Book on adoption on hand for me and I remember it fondly when I was feeling insecure about being adopted. It's a bit old but Mr Rogers is Timeless!

We used to have The Family Book.

Should be compulsory reading for whoever makes these calls.

I've never been able to find anything specific that is a good fit, but I do like these books that explain that there are different kinds of families:

We adopted our oldest via open adoption at birth. Adoption has always been part of his story. There is no good time to wait for. The later you wait to tell them, the harder the conversation will be. I strongly recommend the book below. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.amazon.com/Adoption-Multi-cultural-Picture-Adoptive-Families/dp/0985676280&ved=2ahUKEwjwr8G4xofkAhVBgp4KHaZEB34QFjAIegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw36DbzFZ2-_3tc9Prkw7vfB

Hello there all, my name is Joseph and recently (on April 7th) I self published my first children's book Daydreaming Danny and the Green Dragon. Along with writing the story, I also did all of the art work in the book as well. The book is targeted at children ages 6-9 for self reading and my 3.5 year old loves to have it read to her as well. My book is currently available for purchase on Amazon at the following link:

https://www.amazon.com/Daydreaming-Danny-Green-Dragon-1/dp/1544712278/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1494092381&sr=1-1&keywords=daydreaming+danny

I hope you take a minute to check it out. Thank you for your time and all of the awesome content that you all provide!

The Great Big Book of Families is so wonderful for showing families of all kinds!

Here We Are isn't totally about families but it does address that there are all types of people in the world.

The Family Book by Todd Parr is also a good one!

PATINA is part of a 4-book series and the main character is running with a team, so this probably isn't it, but posting just in case since the focus is an African-American teen protagonist running and it's in her POV. https://www.amazon.com/Patina-Track-Jason-Reynolds/dp/1481450182/ref=pd_bxgy_14_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=1481450182&pd_rd_r=0RYNSGDXKYJSDEBX8GFC&pd_rd_w=uIquY&pd_rd_wg=ACSbf&psc=1&refRID=0RYNSGDXKYJSDEBX8GFC

Did the Chinese Officials do that thing where they ask for your picture and try to match up a child based on your facial features? Will your children learn Chinese? Will you? Have you got this book yet? What agency did you use, Great Wall?
