I like these ones

They boil in 5 minutes. Try looking in an Asian import store.

Boba tea powder, mixed with real green tea, some sugar, and green tea pearls. Though the amazon prices are high for the powder, try checking out your local Asian grocery store and the prices should be much lower.

People use all sorts of tea to make pearl milk tea. I believe the canonical tea is cheap Ceylon, but a lot of places use even cheaper Assam instead. Some people add a second tea, like high-mountain oolong, to add complexity. In HK, they often add ripe pu'er. I've also seen many people recommend Golden Sail lychee black tea and Sunflower jasmine green tea, which are cheap Chinese supermarket brands.

Thai tea is usually Ceylon with condensed milk, food coloring, and often star anise (and sometimes clove, cardamom, vanilla). The leading brand is Number One. That's what your favorite restaurant probably uses. Black sugar PMT was made famous by the Tiger Sugar chain. I've tried it, and tbh I prefer the cleaner flavor of sucrose- or fructose-sweetened PMT.

I don't know how to make cheese foam, but here's my recipe for Taiwanese milk tea:

In 1 c of boiled water, steep 2 teabags of Ceylon for 15 min. Add 1/8 c each sugar and creamer. Chill completely. Shake before serving to improve the texture. Serve with pearls, either the instant ones or homemade ones with tapioca starch and black/red/brown sugar.

I would just buy on Amazon! Here's taro c honeydew , and coconut !

It's a little harder to find these mixes in store. My family used to own a boba place and we used to buy some of the powdered mixes online from a distributer (can't remember which one though). To get the flavored iced green/black teas, you'd just need to add the mango, peach or passionfruit syrups that you can find on Amazon too.

Oops--I skipped over your note about the bulky sizes. My bad.

Can you buy it online? My family likes this black tea mix (Amazon link) the most.

Amazon. Just search "boba pearls" or you can go to any Asian market in their drinks and snacks isle and you'll find other brands of boba pearls. Then use any drink mix or just plain jasmine tea, milk, and condensed milk to make milk tea. It's actually really easy and later after learning to make boba, you regret buying single $5 boba drinks cuz a pack of boba pearls is like $4, which can make like 50 cups of boba

> .5 cup boba 242 calories

Where are you getting that number? A serving of boba is 156 calories from Gong Cha, 145 calories from Kung Fu Tea, etc. If you buy boba pearls to make your own bubble tea, the calories are listed as [105 per 1/3 cup] (https://www.amazon.com/WuFuYuan-Tapioca-Pearl-Black-Net/dp/B00PLTLG4O/ref=pd_bxgy_325_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00PLTLG4O&pd_rd_r=XXYPQ5W7F6W4WS8Z1CMF&pd_rd_w=OCYTg&pd_rd_wg=WhwgC&refRID=XXYPQ5W7F6W4WS8Z1CMF&dpID=51no8Pde2bL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=detail&th=1) which would make it 157.5 calories per 1/2 cup, right in line with what a serving is at most bubble tea chains.

No need to despair. Order some new tapioca pearls online and then find a good recipe for fermented black beans and enjoy them too!

Depends on what you have available.

I work at a tea shop, so there's a pretty extensive list of ingredients available to/necessary for us to make drinks, buuuut if you're just looking to have some cheap PMT, there are instant pearls and tea mixes that you can buy online or at Asian markets.

My personal favorite instant pearls are http://www.amazon.com/Wufuyuan-Tapioca-Pearl-Black-Net/dp/B00PLTLG4O/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1463340819&sr=8-3&keywords=boba

After you make the pearls, though, you're going to want to preserve them in a syrup which you can make with maple syrup and water; keep them in the fridge while your tea cools in there too. Otherwise the pearls are pretty much flavorless :(

You can have boba with pretty much any kind of tea, commonly jasmine milk tea, earl grey milk tea, or any fruity iced tea.

Hope this helped!

I got mine from a friend who came to travel as amazon is a pain, but if you search them on amazon they're there!
